Hi y'all! How's y'all's quarantine going? Well, I could do my comedy bit (which I wrote but have yet to publish) but I'll spare you. If you want to hear it, leave a review! Anyway, I took all of your very helpful votes into account and here is your requested high school story!
Thank you guys so much for your input, and be prepared for a very special story on Wednesday. As well as updates over the weekend. I'm a writing machine right now, give this little goddess a pat on the back!
Anyway… without further ado, I give you a true cannon story (for once XD)
*Disclaimer* If I owned these characters, why would I be writing fanfiction right now?
Annabeth POV
After the summer I'd lived through, the last thing I wanted to do was go to school on the other side of the country, 2,902 miles from Percy. So I convinced my dad to let me go to school in New York. All I had to do was tell him that I'd visit twice, and that I was planning on going to college in California anyway and he was sold. I would be surprising Percy at school.
Nerves flooded my body as I paid for the cab I'd taken from my hotel to the school, a temporary living arrangement until I moved into the Blofis-Jackson apartment. From there, I walked up the wide brick steps and into the bustling hallway of Goode Highschool.
The front office was a glass enclosure to the left of the main door, which I navigated my way to with ease. I approached the secretary's desk and cleared my throat. A middle aged woman with a white forelock and three layers of makeup studied me through her pink cat-eye glasses, perched slightly too low on her two foot nose.
"Can I help you, Hon?" She smacked out in her Jersey accent.
"Yes," I nodded, "I'm here to pick up my schedule."
"Name?" She shot, raising a pencil thin eyebrow, as she scanned her computer screen.
"Chase," I responded, shifting the weight of my backpack. "Annabeth Chase."
She hummed in agreement and turned around, shuffling through her files.
"Here you go Love." She said, sliding a piece of paper to me. Her fingers were long and perfectly manicured to match her glasses.
"Thank you," I smiled politely, and took the paper, and my leave. Just as I reached for the door handle, a girl who could have been the secretary's daughter with longer hair extensions, pulled it open and greeted me with a plastered smile.
"Hello!" She crooned, stretching out a French tipped hand. "I'm Cassy! Official welcome buddy. Welcome to Goode!"
I shook her hand warily, "Nice to meet you, I'm Anna-"
"Annabeth, I know. I've heard all about you!"
"You have?" I scrutinized. Usually, when I hear that, ten minutes later the speaker turns out to be a monster.
"Yes, of course! It's my job to know about every student here at Goode." The cheery attitude was growing strained and exhausting, Cassy's smile stretching thinner across her features. My hand had started to inch toward my backpack, and my knife, when the bell rang.
"We can talk on the way to your locker!" Cassy announced, though I suspected talking meant her babbling about the school and me being subject to listen. I simply nodded and allowed her to lead me to my locker, weaving through the tightly compressed bodies. The hallway seemed to grow more crowded and rowdy as Cassy strode purposefully in the direction of the thickest crowd.
"Um, what are you doing?" I questioned to her back as she scanned over the heads of the mob, an easy feat for a girl in 4 inch stilettos.
"Hmm. Oh, just looking for someone." The distracted tone in her voice gave me the escape I needed.
"You look pretty busy, and I don't want to be late. So, bye!" I started to turn around when her breathless voice stopped me.
"Wait, Annabeth, you just have to meet him!" She had grown breathless and was toying with her hair extensions and smoothing out her Britney Spears-esque skirt.
I tried not to groan, but followed her anyway, plunging into the sea of bodies.
Emerging on the opposite side of the crowd, I noticed as Cassy made a bee-line at a group of boys, athletes most likely. I sighed but followed, noting that my locker was in fact down this hallway. Trying to squeeze past them, I kept my head down and turned away from them.
Cassy's reedy Jersey voice could be heard above the din of the hallway as she squealed a greeting and seemingly tackled someone with a bear hug.
"Oof," the victim grunted.
"What do you want Cassy?" A girl questioned menacingly. I rolled my eyes, but a third check of my schedule confirmed that the reenactment of the Mean Girls fight scene about to go down, was blocking my locker.
"Excuse me," I muttered, slipping beside a girl who could have been my stunt double with purple tips. She was standing in a defensive position, squared off against Cassy, who had attached herself to the arm of a tall auburn boy whose body language reminded me of Frank.
"Ella." The guy warned, unlatching Cassy fingers from his arm and stepping away from her.
The blonde girl, Ella, shook her head, but backed up and relaxed her stance slightly. Cassy sniffed, but didn't argue or do anything more, and simply turned on her heel. plunging back into the crowd. The guy moved to stand next to Ella, hugging her from behind. He glanced up and grinned at me.
"Were you watching the show, or are we in your way?"
"Bas," Ella exclaimed exasperated. The guy just rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to me.
I smirk slightly. "Um, yeah, I think you're standing in front of my locker."
The guy made an apologetic face and escorted Ella to the side so I could slide past them and to my locker. As I entered the combination I heard licks of a conversation between the two until Ella stepped up beside me.
"I'm Elizabeth, you can call me Ella." She smiled widely and extended her hand.
I shook it, noting the chewed nail beds. "Annabeth, I'm a transfer."
Her smile grew broader and she introduced the boy behind her as Sebastian, or Bas. The locker bell rang, interrupting our conversation.
"What's your first period?" Ella asked peering over my shoulder and glancing at my schedule. "Brilliant." She exclaimed, "You have STEM with me, you'll love the teacher." Blowing a kiss at Bas, she turned and started walking toward a short step of steps.
Bas did finger guns at me, before turning and heading toward a main intersection of the hall.
"This wing of the school is all of the electives. All of the seniors have two electives, or language class as their first and second period." Ella briefed me as we entered a classroom. If you could even call it that.
It was obviously a last minute addition to the school, warehouse looking room divided by a plexiglass wall, two workbenches, an office, and eight computer stations. Another bell rang as we seated ourselves at the tables lined up in the front of the room. A short, bald man with a friendly smile- who introduced himself as Mr. Williams, walked in and began going over the available courses in the class.
"You're here for the next nine weeks," He announced, "You will have the opportunity of rotating through three courses, either by yourself or with a partner." Ella glanced over at me and nodded as Mr. Williams passed out the course list. It was an unimaginable relief that I wasn't behind on anything, seeing as I'd come in three days after the first day.
Ella and I poured over the course list, selecting our choices, and brought them up to Mr. Williams.
He nodded appreciatively at our paper, "Stress and Engineering- my hardest course, girls. Design and construction- lot's of woodworking involved, as well as blueprinting. And Flight Sim- a really popular one. Excellent, you two can head over to the Engineering area and start the introduction lesson." We thanked him and headed over to the corner that he'd pointed rest of the class flew by in a blur of safety procedure videos.
After the bell rang, Ella quickly gave me directions to my next class, Latin, along with an invitation to join her and Bas for lunch. I smiled my thanks and accepted before hurring to Latin. The teacher was a younger woman who spoke with a thick Italian accent and wore a vintage a-line skirt and bright red lipstick. From the moment I sat down and noticed the boy that had just entered and sat two seats in front of me, I knew this class was shaping up to be interesting.
Dun, dun, dun! Well, there we go! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading that. Fun fact, Annabeth's STEM class is a true story for me. The classroom I described is exactly what mine was like. Also, I took Engineering, Design and Construction, and Flight Sim. So everything that I talk about surrounding that will be stuff I actually learned! I may geek out a bit ;)
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this and I will be introducing some Percabeth soon, don't fret my pretties.
If you want a shoutout, answer this question in a review (along with your thoughts on the chapter if you want XD)
In The Sandlot, what is the name of the lifeguard that "Squints" (the boy with the thick glasses) tricked into kissing him?
Well, that's it for now! Love you guys! (::)(::)(::)(::)
