Hey, guys. I'm here with another holiday-themed one-shot. I actually wanted to write this last year, but the time got away from me, and I got writer's block with the ending. I really liked the question of 'How do we explain this day to Yami?' which is what got the ball rolling. Have fun with this little one-shot, and I hope you guys had a fun April Fools Day. And hopefully you guys didn't go too crazy.
I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh! If I did, we would totally have episodes explaining all the different holidays to Yami. Also, note with this story, Kisara can see Yami in spirit form.
All's Fair on April Fool's Day
"So what's the point of today?"
Kisara bit her lip as she tried to explain the modern holiday to the ancient pharaoh next to her. "Basically it's a day for people to mess with each other. They'll pull pranks on their friends and say 'April Fools' when it happens. Joey and Tristan have been conspiring all week. Tea said they went all out last year."
"That must be why Yugi is hiding out in his soul room," Yami sighed. "He said today would be a good day to experience for myself."
"And gives him the opportunity to avoid Joey and Tristan's antics," Kisara rolled her eyes.
"Freeze!"
They turned to see a guy across the street in a red jacket with his hands up. A figure in black, their face obscured by a black ski mask, held a gun aimed at the guy's torso. Yami tensed and took a step toward them. "Wait," Kisara blocked him with her arm.
The figure pulled the trigger, and a bright orange dart bounced off the guy's chest. "April Fools!" she pulled off her mask and shook out her blonde ponytail. "I really had you going, didn't I, Sam?"
"Geez, Carla," Sam sighed. "I thought you one of Hirutani's gang members."
"Oh, please," Carla wrapped her arms around him. "Hirutani's crew hasn't been active in over a year. Rumor is they disbanded." She leaned up and kissed him. "Now shall we go prank your little brother?"
"I like that idea a lot better," Sam grinned. "Let's go." He took her hand, and they walked down the street.
"How did you know it was a fake," Yami asked.
"I spotted the orange tip," Kisara answered, playing with a lock of her white hair. "Toy guns like that have tips to show they're fake. I'm guessing the guy was too surprised to notice it. So what would you have done if I hadn't stopped you?"
"Uh…" Yami gripped the Millennium Puzzle and looked away. "I really don't know. Something Yugi would not approve of."
"Then keep an eye out for orange tips," Kisara patted his shoulder. "Or…" an idea came to her. "We could take advantage of the day. Do you want to push Yugi out of his comfort zone?"
"In what way?" he raised an eyebrow at her.
"Just a little matchmaking," she said.
"I'm in," Yami smirked.
Mokuba crept into his brother's office, his eyes flicking back and forth for any sign of movement. Seto only has one meeting today. So I gotta get this done before it finishes. He hopped into his brother's desk chair and logged into the computer. Mokuba smirked to himself. Seto may be able keep normal people from hacking in, but Mokuba knew his brother's thought process and what he would choose for passwords.
Glancing to the door again, Mokuba plugged in his USB and loaded the program onto his brother's computer. Satisfied it was set—he needed to remember to thank Rebecca the next time he saw her—he crept out of the office and raced out of the building.
"Okay, I called Tea and told her where to meet us," Kisara slipped her phone into her bag. "She should be here soon."
"I am ready for the switch," Yami smirked.
"I'm sure we'll both hear about it later," Kisara grinned.
"Kisara!"
The duo turned to see Mokuba running up to them. "What is it, Mokuba?" Kisara asked.
"I've been looking all over for you," the younger Kaiba panted. "I need you to hold onto something for me." He held out a USB.
"Why?" Kisara examined the device.
"Seto's going to be looking for it," he answered. "It's part of my April Fool's Day prank on him."
"Do I want to be in the middle of it?" Kisara raised an eyebrow at him.
"It's not that bad," Mokuba brushed off her concern. "Now I gotta split before Seto finds me. Thanks, Kisara!" He took off running again.
"He's having way more fun with this than we used to," Kisara sighed and placed the USB in her pocket.
"It's good he can," Yami watched the black-haired boy as he disappeared down the street. "I don't why, but it feels familiar. I wonder if I had a group of friends similar to your bond with the Kaibas."
"I'm sure you did," Kisara encouraged him. "But until you remember, you can enjoy the group of friends you currently have. And it's almost time to meet Tea, so we should get going."
"Very well," Yami led the way to the meeting spot.
Seto sighed as he fell back into his office chair. The only plus side of the meeting with the Industrial Illusions representative was that the rep wasn't Pegasus. He did not need to deal with the pompous windbag any more than necessary.
He leaned forward and logged into his computer. Now that the meeting was out of the way, he could go over the schematics for the next generation duel disk. As usual, KaibaCorp was paving a new way forward, and there were several people who would pay for a customized product.
Seto pushed away from the desk as a Red-Eyes Black Dragon flew across his screen. The dragon circled around a few times and then landed on the taskbar and incinerated all the other icons on the screen. It turned its head towards Seto, and a comic dialogue bubble appeared. "If you wish to defeat me, you must seek the dragon of light."
"Mokuba," Seto scowled at the screen, clicking everywhere on the screen to get rid of the nuisance. Each click only sparked another Inferno Fire Blast. Mokuba would use Wheeler's dragon to torment Seto. It is April first. Wonder how he programmed it. Knowing his brother, Seto assumed there was a program somewhere to remove the Red-Eyes.
Dragon of light… Seto rolled his eyes as he deciphered the message. Of course—Blue-Eyes. Seto took out his phone and dialed her number.
Kisara smothered a giggle from her hiding spot as a very red Yugi talked to a confused Tea. "I think we got them," she whispered to the transparent Yami next to her. Yugi kept glancing their way, but he didn't seem to spot her.
"Yes," Yami smirked. "Now I better go into the Puzzle so he doesn't try to switch back."
"Tell me what you learn later," Kisara waved, and the spirit disappeared. She saw Yugi glare at the Puzzle one more time, and the teen rubbed the back of his head as he spoke to Tea. I better go too. Spying on them isn't exactly nice. Leaving the two, Kisara slipped away.
Her phone started ringing as she exited the park. "Hello?" she answered it.
"Have you seen Mokuba?" Seto asked.
"Yeah, I ran into him earlier," Kisara said. "He was in a bit of a rush."
"I bet he was," he grumbled. "Did he give you anything?"
"Why?" she decided it was better to play innocent for the moment.
"He left a program on my computer," Seto explained. Kisara could picture his eyes rolling. "Red-Eyes Black Dragon has been blowing up my screen since I logged on. And the only thing it says is I need a 'dragon of light.' I suspect he meant you."
"He probably did," Kisara pulled the thumb drive of her pocket. "He did give me a USB. Said it was part of his April Fools prank on you."
"I figured. Where are you?"
"I just left the park. I can be at KaibaCorp in ten, maybe fifteen minutes, if that helps."
"That'll be fine. See you then."
Kisara bit her lip to keep from laughing at Seto's annoyed expression at whatever was on his screen. "Everything okay?" she asked as she knocked on the door.
"If Wheeler summons this blasted thing around me ever again, I won't hesitate to destroy it," he glared at the screen.
Kisara walked around his desk to see the Red-Eyes Black Dragon spewing fire at whatever Seto clicked on. "Mokuba has really upped his game from when we were kids."
"I wouldn't be surprised if he found someone to program this for him," Seto muttered and rubbed his temples. "Where's the USB?"
"Right here," she handed him the device.
Seto inserted into the computer, and an animation of a guy with brown hair wearing a sleeveless white trench coat walked onto the screen along the taskbar. The digital Seto pulled out a card, and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon appeared above him. Blue-Eyes charged at Red-Eyes, and the two circled the screen until Blue-Eyes fired its White Lightning at the black dragon. The attack struck true, and Red-Eyes was vaporized. The Blue-Eyes landed next to Seto and transformed into a girl with long, white hair. The animated Kisara took the animated Seto's hand, and they walked away. As they made their way off the screen, icons started appearing on the desktop.
"I guess that means the program is gone?" Kisara observed. "I don't know what Mokuba planned, but everything seems to be normal."
"He is meddlesome at times," Seto leaned forward and rested his head on his interlocked fingers. "You do realize what that was supposed to mean."
"Yeah, I think I got it," Kisara drummed her fingers on the desk. "Either he wanted us to hang out, or he wanted you to take a day off. Possibly both."
"I have too much to get done," Seto started typing on his computer, intent on making up for the time Mokuba's prank cost him.
"Really, Seto?" Kisara rolled her eyes at him. "It's beautiful out. Why don't we go outside?"
"Because I don't want to deal with morons who think the calendar date is a good enough reason to prove exactly why they are morons," Seto kept his eyes on the screen.
"Not even to get Joey and Tristan?" Kisara said, hoping to tempt him. That might have been one reason Mokuba chose Red-Eyes for the animation.
Seto sighed and leaned back in his chair. "You're not going to leave until we do something, are you?"
"I don't really have anywhere else to be," she shrugged. "And I won't know the full results of my prank until later."
"What did you do?" Seto raised an eyebrow at her.
"Just a little matchmaking," Kisara smirked. "I arranged for Yugi and Tea to meet up. If anything happens between them, yay. If not, hopefully they at least had fun."
"You and Mokuba sure think alike," Seto rolled his eyes and got up. "Fine. Do you want to get food at the café around the corner?"
"Sure," Kisara grinned and linked arms with him.
They made their way down to the first floor. As they passed through the entrance, green slime rained down on the two of them, courtesy of a bucket rigged above the entryway. "Aagghh," Kisara groaned as she tried to wring the goop out of her white hair.
"Someone's getting fired," Seto scowled as he wiped it off his face.
"Too bad! I don't work for you, Rich Boy!" a familiar voice laughed. The duo saw Joey standing a few feet away, laughing at their predicament. "April Fools, guys!"
"Really, Joey?" Kisara glared at the blond. "Slime was the best you could come up with?"
"For Rich Boy, yes," Joey grinned. "Getting you was an added bonus, but Mokuba told me both of you would come out this way."
"That little sneak," Kisara muttered. "We've been had."
Seto said nothing as he picked up the bucket with a portion of slime left in it. He took a few steps toward Joey and dumped the remaining contents on the blond. "Hey!" Joey protested.
"What? Doggy need a bath?"
"Grr, Rich Boy…"
"That's enough," Kisara interrupted the sparks flying between the two. "How about we all go get cleaned up?"
"Fine." The guys looked away from each other.
"Smell you guys later," Joey trotted down the street, trying to get the slime out of his hair.
"What happened to you two?"
Yugi and Tea watched them from a few feet away. Yami's spirit form stood behind them. "Joey happened," Kisara answered. "Are you guys having fun?"
The duo turned pink and looked away from each other. "We just hit the amusement park," Tea explained. "Unfortunately, Tristan was there posing as an employee. He stuck us at the top of the Ferris wheel!"
"It was quite amusing," Yami smirked. "I think I'm starting to understand this holiday."
