Call of Duty: Anchorage Conflict

(Set during Modern Warfare 2, same timeline as Wolverines! during the Russian invasion of the U.S. airspace)

Zen blinked her cold eyes twice. They were slightly dry and from where she was sitting, she needed them as open and alert as possible. In her arms was an Intervention with the bipod extended onto a window seal with the frame broken so all the glass was missing. Behind her was a dead Russian soldier sitting up against a gap on the wall with her combat knife placed directly between two of his ribs, the AK-47 dropped down to the floor beside him.

From her view point she could see a large portion of the Anchorage Municipality as well as the bowl of mountains surrounding the city even out past the inlet. The waters were plagued with destroyed helicopters and other aircrafts, lots of the buildings had missing pieces or were outright collapsed due to too many attacks on it.

The Russian Army was attacking Alaska for obvious reasons. The military bases were within an easy flight range of several smaller Russian bases on her motherland. It either captured the base, or destroyed the whole city. Which, being Alaska's most populated city, meant a lot of casualties.

The U.S. Army Rangers were backed by TF-141 as they fought to push back the front lines from the inlet dock back. There were hundreds of troops, but the U.S. had dug in on roof tops with sniper rifles, machine guns, and Javelin rounds. Down on the ground, the streets were cleared which paved the way for Abram Tanks and Humvees to cruise through the once busy streets of Anchorage.

Jennifer Gordon was a twenty six year old Sgt. in the U.S. Army Rangers part of call sign Echo-2. In the same squad with her was her Captain Yates, Private Murray, Sergeant Lakefield, and Ssgt. Wolf.

While their goal was to push back the Russian Army, the 141 Task Force was searching for one man in specific.

Kiri, the code name of a Russian specialist. He was leading the attack on Anchorage acting on behalf of Vladimir Makarov. How did they know? It was a mystery to a Sergeant in the Army Rangers.

This led Jennifer to now, as she peered out of a window on the eighteen story building. She cleared the building practically by herself with the help of Sgt. Wolf who acted as her backup in case she ran into a cluster. Her side arm was primarily what she used and her USP-45 was damn near empty now. Only five rounds left.

"Echo 2-2 to Echo 2-1, I've reached the overwatch position and am waiting for further instructions. Over." Jennifer said to her walky before placing both hands on her Intervention.

What a beautiful sniper, she thought. It was her Intervention that she used on her first day of combat and it stayed with her over the years.

From the window she could see dozens of Rangers shooting back and forth on the ground, some cars detonating after grenades destroyed them, and of course jets flying only hundreds of feet over the city. A loud metallic explosion was heard to her right and she instinctively looked in the direction. Jennifer poked her head out of the window to see a MiG with fire engulfing the tail engine, the right wing completely missing. It spun three times before the left wing made contact with the building Jennifer was in, scraping loudly across the front. Only when it looked like it was getting closer did the wing snap off and shriek across the face and swipe right over her window. She kicked her feet off of the panelling on the bottom of the wall in front of her and slid backwards five feet as the roaring of the destroyed MiG fluttered to its death.

On the ground, an Abrams Tank was destroyed by the impact of the MiG but it didn't seem to change the sounds of booming rounds and frequent explosions.

"Gordon, the ground team just lost an Abrams Tank directly below the building you are in. We're taking heavy fire from RPGs on rooftops, can you assist? Over!" Captain Yates yelled, loud ricochet bullets and nearby gunfire almost drowned his voice out. Jennifer got up from the ground and moved back to the window where she set her Intervention back up.

About a quarter mile out was a building with several Russian soldiers on top, a group of RPG users and even some snipers.

"Affirmative, Captain. I have a visual on five plus RPG's. Taking the shot." Jennifer said before aiming down the scope towards the enemy soldiers. The wind was her only concern as she pulled her bolt back to load a bullet into the chamber. From there, she slowed her breathing and tightened her grip on the handle. As her heart rate dropped, she squeezed the trigger and the chamber simmered to life, releasing a .408 Chey Tac round flying through the cold air. It zoomed into the right left shoulder of a soldier carrying an RPG ready to fire. Upon impact, he impulsively fired the rocket but his aim was off and it instead flew into a building across the street. However, he dropped to the ground likely dead or dying. One of the other soldiers dropped down to move him under cover but fell victim of another round from Jennifer, this one piercing his skull.

The remaining four RPG shooters wised up to the sniper that was fixed on their position and ordered the two snipers already located beside them to return fire. Jennifer watched through her scope as two Russian snipers set their Dragunov up on pipes while aiming up at her building.

"Shit." Jennifer muttered to herself as she bolted another round into her Intervention and took aim at the sniper to the right who seemed to have her in his sights. Jennifer pulled the trigger and watched the body of the sniper to the right drop backwards onto the rooftop. Meanwhile, the remaining RPG troops continued firing rockets down at the Rangers.

The last sniper was in her sights as she pulled the trigger. However, she watched the bullet miss by inches as it hit the pipe and started releasing a gas into the air slowly.

She went to draw back from her scope and pull the bolt backwards to load another bullet into her Intervention until Jennifer spotted a flash from the barrel of the sniper that she had just barely missed. A fight or flight response threw her body sideways, she didn't care what direction she hit the ground in all that mattered was that the sniper was about to release a round in her direction and even novices get lucky once in a while.

Not even a second after her palms slammed the floor and her knees followed suit, the wall three feet above her head crackled and a bullet punctured through it and into the adjacent wall. Jennifer had literally dodged a bullet.

"You bastard." Jennifer muttered to herself before crawling back to her sniper, staying clear of the windows as she repositioned herself. The Dragunov was a semi-automatic sniper rifle and while this meant that the recoil was tough, if the soldier was strong enough he could quickly line the scope back up on her location. Another round pierced through the window only inches away from the actual sniper rifle that she was using. Each time, her heart slammed in her chest and she felt the need to hide.

Jennifer pulled the Intervention down and bolted another bullet inside the chamber. At least she would be ready if she was going to make any brave moves.

Then she had an idea.

Jennifer tucked the bipod back in and crawled under the window frames to the next room through the doorway. This room was darker with the blinds closed which wasn't a good idea - the sniper would see the covers being moved and instinctively know she was there. There was one more room down from where she was sitting, another bedroom but with only one window left open, the curtains blocking the rest of them. This would be where she returned fire.

Once she rushed over to the window, she peaked an eye out to see if the sniper was still there. Unfortunately, she found him still prone next to where the dead sniper was laying, blood now pooled around the both of them.

Jennifer cocked her bipod out and took aim from the window. Once she had the scope lined up on her target she squeezed the trigger and flinched with the recoil of her sniper. Once the sound echoed out, she saw the body drop down and the RPG shooters were now prone to any sort of attack.

Once they were all dead, Jennifer took to her radio that she left in the other room and called down to her squadron.

"Captain Yates, all snipers and RPG nests neutralized. You're clear up here." Jennifer announced, scanning the surrounding buildings for any stragglers. Somewhere in her heart she almost wished that there were some civilians hiding but with the fault of the ACS module, reinforcements came painfully slow.

"Roger that. We're getting ready to move to Location Zulu. We'll need you and Wolf down here." Yates directed. He had a deeper voice than he looked, a five foot ten white male with buzzed blonde hair and marble blue eyes yet his voice was deep enough to vibrate the floor.

"Copy that, on my way." Jennifer replied before retrieving her Intervention and hauling ass down the stairs. After about six flights, she met up with Wolf who was still crouched behind a railing with his M16A3 pointed down the stairs.

"Gordon." Wolf acknowledged her. "All clear?"

"Ai. Yates needs us in the street as we move towards Earthquake Park. Apparently they're using it for anti-air weapons and we have to shut it down before it comes to fruition." Jennifer said.

"Fucking pitty." Wolf muttered as he started down the stairs. "Earthquake Park holds some of the only living history from the 1964 earthquake."

"Yeah?" Jennifer scoffed. "Now it'll be as destroyed as it was in 1964. Just like the rest of this city…" She said softly as she caught a glimpse of the outside world. It was smokey, gunfire filled the dense air, and lives were being lost every second.

But it was time to move. Once the SAM sight was averted, they could move on Kiri and send these soldiers home.

Or die trying.

Thanks for reading! I've never written a Call of Duty fanfiction before and don't really know how to write a war story. But, this is a first for me and I hope you look forward to the next chapter. I plan on it being a four part one shot, detailing how a company of Army Rangers retakes Anchorage from the Russian army as well as the conflict between Kiri, Makarov's fictional northern strike force leader.

Yes. I'm from Alaska. You guessed that already didn't you?

Anyway. Hope you enjoyed! Review/favorite/follow!!
