Note: This is supposed to be in "the Batman" 2004-2008 universe, despite including Talia Al Ghul from the comics. I also want to dedicate this fanfiction to Gotham Lioness, my very best friend. I do not own the Batman, Batman comics, or any of the characters within them.

Chapter 1

The commissioner's eyes opened wide in surprise as I swooped in behind him. I jumped in front of the batsignal's blinding lights just as his eyes went back to normal.

"Oh, it's just you…" he observed as I landed by his side, "There's something odd going on with the villains, and I was hoping you could help."

I had noticed that all the villains these days seemed to be going for the same things, having the same plans, but sometimes this was just because something was popular.

"You've probably noticed that they've been going for things they've never once shown interest in, but it's more than just that. When we interrogate them, they don't seem to know why they were even doing it. They don't remember ever planning the plans they execute." He continued to explain the situation.

"I'll look into it, Commissioner. But I've also learned that it's easy to overcomplicate these mysteries. The most likely cause is villain gossip. It is probably just a trend. A good idea that one villain thought of, and word spread through the villain society. What these villains are doing is known as playing dumb. Villains never cooperate when it comes to interrogations. They are simply faking to get out of being interrogated."

I made my exit into the shadows before he could reply. A trend isn't much to be concerned about. Since I had much better things to do with my time, I returned straight back to the batcave to do those things.

I returned to find Dick battling the training machine. He quickly finished as the batmobile zoomed in.

"So…" He turned to face me as he said this, waiting for my answer on what the commissioner was so concerned about.

"Nothing much. Just quite a bit of villains are saying that they don't remember deciding to commit the crimes they commit. Obviously faking, but we're supposed to keep an eye on it." I explained as I sat down in front of the batcomputer.

"Yeah, well, you wouldn't believe how good I'm getting at fighting this training thing! Look at how quick I can defeat it!" he exclaimed as he turned the device back on.

"You're doing great," I said, hardly glancing back at him. Something had caught my eye in one of the bat's claws. I carefully pulled out what turned out to be an envelope. There were few people I knew that would use such an odd and old-fashioned way of contacting me. That was when I read what it said on the envelope.

"To: Beloved" it read. As soon as I read this, I knew exactly which of these few people it was. And they were definitely my favorite.
