Chapter One (David)

The sun was high in the sky looking down at the battle below. There one side of the field was a boy with red spiked hair, his green eyes never looking away from his opponent's Metagross. "Salamence use earthquake," he called as he hand shot forward.

"Metagross use sludge bomb," the other trained called after the earthquake hit. The boy leaned back and smiled. This battle was going to be over soon.

"Salamence finished this with another earthquake," he called relaxed and just like that the Metagross fell not coming back up to continue. Cheers came from around him as he turned to leave as everything turned black. I couldn't help the feeling of doing this before as my eyes opened to see the lab room I was in.

Opps you caught me. Hi my name is David and I live in a small lab in the middle of a bunch of trees.

"All right, David. This will do for today," I heard my couch say as I looked around to see them turning the machine off. "Yes sir! That was a well-played battle! David, your battle skills have improved by an amazing amount." I sighed taking a step down from the platform I stood on. "I mean, it was impressive the way you handled that big Pokémon with aplomb. You took command of it as if it were the same as your Eevee…. Don't you think it's time that you consider raising another Pokémon besides your Eevee?"

I didn't think twice as I turned to him with a glare. "No," I whispered in anger. "There is a difference between a simulation and real life," I spoke a little louder to see him frown.

"I'm sorry," he said as I turned away.

"I'm gone," I waved leaving the room with a frown on my face. It felt better as I stepped out into the empty hallway away from the same praises I heard so often now.

"Professor Krane! I only came here to ask if you could help find a cure!" A voice of a girl yelled echoed into the hall way. I don't think I've ever heard her voice and there wasn't any guess coming by today. My feet crept down toward the door I knew lead to Professor Krane's office. I haven't met him in person but I heard him enough to know where to avoid him.

"I was only asking about your home," the Professor's voice replied calmly.

"Professor, I can't speak of my home with anyone. I shouldn't even be here but when I met you in Gateon Port I thought you could help me," she spoke with a plea as the door opened fully. I gasped in front of me stood a girl around my own height with bright long blue wavy hair. She looked slim with the white tank-top and blue jeans she wore. My eyes moved to meet hers but they were covered by black glasses.

My eyes moved passed the new person to my mother who stood beside the Professor with a disapproving frown on her face. I knew it was for the fact I was caught by the door. Her long light brown hair was swept into her usual huge bun. She wore her pink coat like dress that held no winkles or dirt. "David, darling, have you finished training?" She asked as my eyes flicker to the Professor beside her with a gentle smile. The glasses on his nose were less noticeable to his messy brown hair and the long lab coat he wore.

"Yes mother," I replied before I looked back toward the new girl. There was something about her that seemed to be familiar but I didn't know what.

"Topaz, is there a reason?" The Professor seemed to continue what was being spoken of before I had been noticed.

"The less you know about myself, the safer you will be," she said with a frown her voice sounded more emotionless now.

"Professor Krane, I don't believe you should push her anymore," my mother spoke sternly as she turned her attention to the Professor. I took a step to the side in case Topaz was to leave. I kinda hope she wouldn't. Why was she here? What was this about Gateon Port? "David," her attention turned toward me. "This is the director's office. Did you want to pay a visit to Professor Krane?" I gulped there was no way I was going to tell mom that I only came because I was curious about Topaz.

"You don't need to be that stiffly official, Lily," Professor Krane spoke with a chuckle.

"But…" My mother turned to him unsure what to tell him.

"Oh, yes! I've heard the battle coach singing high praise about you, David," the Professor's attention turned toward me.

"He has," I spoke in a near groan. That man can't keep his mouth shut, can he?

"He has, and I've heard your battling skills have improved dramatically recently. That's outstanding! I sure don't think I'd stand a chance against you," he laughed at the last part. I stepped back ready to make my escape if needed.

"I wish everyone wouldn't drown them with such gushing praise all the time," my mother said as her hand came to rest on her hip. "My son and daughter will become spoiled rotten if this keeps up." I think she should worry more about my little sister then me but I doubt she will.

"There's nothing to worry about. Both David, and Jovi are wonderful kids," he told my mother calmly. She sighed turning away from him.

"By the way, I don't think I've seen Jovi since lunchtime," my mother commented. I shivered as a sinking feeling filled my stomach. I knew where she was heading and I didn't like it. "Daivd," her tone was sweet like a caring mother. Don't get me wrong, my mother is a very loving mother but since she started this project all her time as been on the project. It was rare for Jovi or I to see her. "I hate to bother you, but could you go find Jovi for me?" I groaned internally. "I think you already know, but several research projects are in their critical phases in this lab. That is why I can't afford to take any time off right this instant. So please, honey, will you go find Jovi for me?" Why me! Sure she is my sister but that didn't mean I wanted to go waste time looking for her.

"I'll help him, and then will be heading home," Topaz spoke quickly joining our arms. When did she get that close?

"But Topaz…"The Professor looked taken back.

"Maybe another time Professor," she said pulling me from the room.

"Oh David I left a PDA in your room," Professor Krane yelled before the door fully closed. Topaz let go of me arm as she looked around. Her teeth bit her bottom lip.

"So this might be surprising but I don't know my way around or know what your sister looks like so I'll have to take your lead," she spoke as she motioned me with her hand.

"Of course," I commented as I pulled her along to the elevator. "I need to pick up that PDA from my room first."

"Sure thing," she shrugged. "Isn't there any stairs?"

"Not to this floor," I replied as we stepped into the elevator. She moved to lead against the back of it.

"Isn't that a bit unsafe? What if there was a black out?" She said.

"Then I hope I'm not on the second floor," I told her honestly. "Since I could remember there has never been a black out." The elevator opened and I stepped out and she followed quickly after.

"So which way David?" She asked grabbing hold of my hand tightly. I gulped as I felt heat touch my cheeks. "Is something wrong?" She moved her face closer to mind. "You seem to be getting a bit pink…"

"I-it's n-nothing," I tried to stop myself from stuttering but failed. "My room is t-this way." Was it even proper for me to lead her toward my room? I shook my head, it wasn't anything like that. "So Topaz is your name?"

"That is what my beloved father named me," she seemed to mock with a frown. Did she not like her father? "Was it your mother that named you?" My eyes widen.

"Yea, my father didn't stay around much. He left before I was born and only came back for a week and then Jovi came 9 months later. We never got to know him," I told her biting my tongue as I felt tears touch my eyes but none fell. I wasn't a fan of him and I don't think I'd ever forgive him.

"My mother left after I was born," Topaz said quietly. "My brother raised me as my father was always busy." I was taken back from the love when she mentioned her brother.

"My room is connected to this room," I sighed as I moved into the room that was connected to a bunch of bedrooms. I stopped when Topaz let go of my hand and didn't follow me into the room. "Are you coming?"

"I'm going to wait out here. I don't like rooms much," she said moving to lean on the hallway wall. "Go ahead, no need to rush."

"If you're sure," I waited to see if she changed her mind but she motioned me to continue. I enter to see a few people around but none of them was my little sister. I stopped to peak into her room to see her two Pokémon Plus and Minus running about happily. "Jovi?" Nothing. I moved to the next room and walked in. She wasn't here either. Maybe I should be glad since I always had to put my stuff back after she messes up my room. On my desk sat a device. I guess it was the PDA. I clipped it to my head band to hear a BEEP!

An email opened on a small screen when I hit a button.

-To David,

Jovi was playing with Adon, a game of hide-and-seek. Why don't you and Topaz check with him.

Professor Krane-

Another elevator trip, I really hope a black out doesn't happen now that Topaz pointed out the flaw of the building. I can't imagen if I could get trapped with the Professor. Not waiting another second I went back to meet up with Topaz. She was still leaning against the wall.

"I'm guessing your little sister isn't in there?" She asked with a smile.

"Not at all, but the PDA had an e-mail from Professor Krane saying she was playing with Adon last. So we head up to talk to him about if he knows where she could possibly run off too," I replied tapping the PDA without a thought.

"Does she do this a lot?"

"I don't know, I'd avoid my mother when she is working with the Professor so I don't have to baby sit or tell her that I was going out to train with my Eevee, but someone volunteered me," I pointed out as we both started to walk toward the elevator.

"Well sorry but I needed to get out of the little mess I was making and last I checked looking out for your sibling doesn't cause much harm," she replied hitting the button for the elevator. It opened right away and we stepped in.

"If you say so," I mused eyeing her glasses. "Why do you were sun glass?"

"Let's say it's my little secret I was trying to get Krane to help me with," she said before sighing. I elevator door opened and we stepped out.

"I remember you saying you met Professor Krane out in Gateon Port," I remarked fishing for more information. I hoped maybe I might be able to visit or see her often if I knew where to look. Not that I am trying to be creepy, it's just that she is so interesting.

"Yea, I ran into him and ended up chatting. He said he was a researcher that headed a lab. I asked more about research he was interested in and it gave me a bit a hope about finding a cure for my illness. He said I should visit sometime so I did today. It honestly wasn't going that well though," she spoke softly as we walked down to the last room of the hall.

"This is Adon's room," I pointed out before I banged on the door. "Hey, Adon you in there," I called out.

"David?" His voice called back and I opened the door.

"Hey Adon, Professor," I stopped in midsentence to stare at the older man hiding under his desk. Tools piled everywhere. "What are you doing under there?" A gentle laugh was heard behind me causing my heart to warm. It was super beautiful. I looked behind me to see Topaz slight cover her mouth.

"Hello Adon, I'm Topaz," she introduced herself with a bright smile. "You see David and I are looking for little Jovi and I believe the Professor said she might be with you."Adon's face had blushed a scarlet red as he moved to look up at us.

"You're looking for Jovi? We're supposed to be playing hide-and-seek right now but isn't she around anywhere?"

"Not from what we can tell," I sighed unsure if I pitied the man for hiding so long.

"Well maybe she's gone off to Dr. Kaminko's manor. It's a big weird house southeast from here," he told them with a sigh.

"I know where it is," Topaz commented.

"Jovi's 'it' in our game of hide-and-seek. I wish she'd find me soon. My back is starting to hurt," Adon said.

"Don't you think you should get out and continue with your work?" I asked only for Topaz to flick my shoulder. "Hey!"

"Don't mind David, when we see Jovi, we'll let her know you are still waiting," Topaz smile kindly before she pulled me out of the room. "If you aren't going to play with your sister don't stop others from doing so to, or she could get lonely."

"If you say so," I shrugged moving to the elevator only to be stopped by someone.

"Hi, David. The lounge is noise, so I'm going to see what the commotion is about. The TV news just came on, so maybe something big happened. Let's go see," the man said as he moved to the next room. I looked at Topaz and wondered if she'd mind if I check it out.

"Alright," she sighed and I walked in to see all the people watching the big screen TV. Topaz stood beside me in the door way.

"We bring you ONBS News. Authorities still have failed t find any traces of the cargo ships S. since it's sudden disappearance off the coast of Gateon Port," the news lady spoke on TV. Topaz shifted slightly her hand moved to lightly push her glasses away to watch the TV. My breath caught as I notice the beauty of her topaz orbs. They looked just like the gem. "There have been no reports of flotsam that may indicate the ship's sinking. The authorities appeared mystified by the way the ship vanished like smoke. There are reports that numerous Pokémon were on board. Concern is raising for their welfare."

"That is so…" Topaz's mouth shut and she covered her eyes fast.

"Wow, a cargo ship carrying Pokémon disappeared without a trace. Is that really possible?" Someone comment surprised.

"Well anything is possible," Topaz muttered with a frown. "So David are we going?"

"Oh, yea," I followed out into the hall and just as before we didn't have to wait for the elevator. We silently walked through the lab. Her eyes still were burned in my mind. They were so unique. Who would have thought? "Topaz," I spoke and she turned her head to look at me.

"Yes?"

"Why do you hide those eyes? They are so beautiful," I told her as I took her hand in my own with a blush. We stepped outside and she pulled her hand away from mine, as a light pink dusted across her cheeks.

"They're anything but beautiful," she said, her tone held venom to it. Her hand came to take off her glasses. "They are the sign I was born with my family's illness. I'd do anything for them to go away." Tears wielded in her eyes. "It's a curse." With that she turned away from me and continued toward the southeast from the lab.

"Hey wait up," I yelled. "We'd get there faster if we use my scooter."

She stopped dropping her glasses on the ground. "Is that even safe? Besides wouldn't your little sister have walked?"

"Yes my scooter is safe and it will be faster come on," I said as I grabbed her hand and dragged her away toward were my scooter was. "Just sit behind me and hold on."

"Alright," she sighed before she got on behind me, her arms tight around my waist. I felt like I was in heaven by the warmth on my back. It was nothing like when I drive Jovi to Gateon Port for a play date. The ride was pleasant as the wind wasn't to cool or strong to go through. It was nice not to be going here alone either. "Stop this is the place," Topaz spoke louder to be heard over the scooter.

"Are you sure?" I asked stopping it in front of a broken down stone gate. There were dead trees, huge cracks in the stone ground. Dark clouds hung above the manor as if it were about to storm.

"Yup," she said as she held the 'p'. She hopped off and walked right in the open gate. I followed slowly after. I swear this could have been a haunted house. Why would Jovi come here anyway? "Dr. Kaminko likes this place to look a bit uneasy so not to be bothered," Topaz commented thoughtfully.

"Well he did a great job with it," I replied moving closer to her as we neared the doors.

"Wait! Who goes there?" A high-pitch male voice called as I jumped into the air.

"Oh no," Topaz groaned.

"You must be a burglar! Chobin will put you straight! Don't you move!" The small blue haired man with weird glasses spoke. Why did he speak in third person? "Chobin is the name! And Chobin is the number-one assistant to Dr. Kaminko!"

"He is also the only assistant," Topaz sighed bring her hand up to cover her eyes.

"Chobin is the only assistant, so Chobin has to be the number one assistant!"

"Is he serious?" I asked just as Chobin pulled out a poke ball.

"Chobin," Topaz exclaimed running forward to stop the man. "We aren't burglars," she spoke in a calm soft tone kneeling toward him. Her hand hovered above the one with a poke ball. My own hand moved slowly to grab my own that held my most trust partner Eevee.

"Miss Topaz," the man spoke surprise. "Chobin hadn't known you were coming today."

"Uh, well," Topaz looked nervously toward me. "You see I came with my friend David. We were told his sister Jovi was over here," she told him as she bit her lip.

"Chobin will call your brother," Chobin nodded to himself but Topaz moved quickly and grabbed his hand.

"There really isn't a need Chobin. I'm totally fine as you can see," she told him with a weak smile.

"Chobin doesn't know…"

"Please Chobin," she pleaded. I was about to step in when Jovi came out of the old house. Jovi's blue should length hair swung as she ran out the little bun were also quite noticeable.

"Oh! Big Brother! What are you doing here?" She asked surprised to see me. I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Don't go big brother to me. You shouldn't leave the lab without letting anyone know," I told her sternly.

"Oh Jovi gets it! Big brother, you got lost, didn't you?"

"What no I didn't!" I exclaimed. How dare she!

"Uh-uh-uh! There is no hiding stuff from Jovi! Because Jovi knows," she said shaking a figure at me. I took a long deep breath so I wouldn't just grab her arm and drag her back crying. I was so not cut out to be dealing with this. "This big house is Dr. Kaminko's. Dr. Kaminko's job is to make incredible inventions. There's a bunch of neat machines like they have in the HQ Lab. You should come in too, big brother."

"Jovi we have to get back," but before I could finish she ran back into the building and I chased after her. This was turning out to be a very long day.
