The first time Paul phased in front of Bella was the most surreal moment in his life.
Curious about the experience of meeting his wolf, she had asked him to phase. Both Kim and Emily were terrified of the thought of seeing their imprints phase in front of them. Emily was terrified of Sam's wolf after he had phased too close to her and scarred her forever, psychologically and physically, which made Kim naturally fear her imprint's wolf too. Paul hadn't even thought of allowing his wolf to meet Bella, despite the fact that his wolf had been begging him ever since he had laid eyes on his imprint when she had visited La Push for the first time.
One afternoon, when Bella asked him if he could phase in front of her, Paul's heart stuttered in his chest. Asking her to repeat herself, he came to the conclusion that his hearing was fine. She really did want to meet his wolf. But wasn't she nervous or scared of meeting his wolf after what the other imprints had told her? He questioned her if she really wanted to do this. She nodded emphatically. After a few minutes of a silent discussion with his wolf, he agreed, warning her not to move close to him after he'd phased. No matter what she saw. No matter how much pain Paul looked to be in. She nodded, but the devious little glint in her eye made Paul suspicious. Still, he did as she asked. He took her to a small clearing in the forest and stripped. When he started phasing, Bella watched the scene amazed. Crying out with awe, she strolled towards him with a huge grin on her face and her hands stretched out. 'Aww, you're so gorgeous! Yes, you are!', she cooed as she stepped closer. Paul was too stunned by her words to move. She reached him, immediately burying her fingers in his thick grey fur. 'So soft.. so warm.. so good.. such a good boy..' she whispered as she ran her fingers through his fur. Paul fell onto his knees with surprised delight as she scratched a particularly sensitive spot right behind his ear. He didn't feel his tail wagging until she squealed, 'Oh look, you're happy, huh, boy? You like that?' If he had been in his human form, he would have moaned in ecstasy when she leaned into him and kissed his muzzle without a hint of fear. His wolf wanted to play with his little mate but Paul mused that maybe it wasn't a good idea. His wolf was annoyed with Paul's sudden submissive behaviour and overtook his instincts. The wolf nudged Bella's stomach, knocking her backwards. Bella peered at him curiously for a few moments. When the wolf nudged her again, she understood what he wanted. Throwing her head back, she laughed heartily. 'You wanna play, boy? Come on, catch me if you can..' she teased as she pivoted on her heels and rushed away from Paul. The wolf immediately sprinted after her, his tongue lolling out and his eyes gleaming mischievously. The two chased each other for a few hours, knocking each other down again and again, and rolling about in the dirt. Tiring out after a while, they fell down on the ground breathless. When Paul phased back, he rolled over to gaze at his imprint with adoration clear in his eyes. He knew he was already in love. Thinking about how he should tell her as this wasn't something one said out of the blue, he accidentally blurted out, 'I love you.' Wincing at his abrupt words, he assumed she would run away screaming. But instead, the smile on her face widened even more, and she whispered shyly, 'I love you, too. Thank you so much for letting me meet your wolf.. it was amazing!' Paul asked her, a bit bewildered, 'How come you're not afraid of me?' Bella snorted and answered derisively, 'I have worse nightmares about failing AP Chem'. Paul laughed and pulled her into his arms to kiss his mate, secretly thrilled that she wasn't scared of his wolf.
