Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
A/N: This is a very short story, only three chapters.
She sighed. Every month she cleaned out the safety center, making sure it was well stocked and completely magic-proof. If there was an emergency, she would save them.
And still. No one - not one wizard or witch - ever said hello. Or even noticed her. Ever. There was some alarm when she first came, after the Ministry moved to escape Him. They think she didn't hear them, but she did. A giant so near the Ministry? I know it's here to protect us, but I'd honestly feel safer without it! It'll betray us to Dailperduwn! She laughs when she thinks of that one. She always does when she hears Dailperduwn's name. It's not a scary name at all. She knows he was just trying to be like You-Know-Who, but he could have tried harder. Well, she concedes, there are not many anagrams of his name. But seriously, Dailperduwn!? It autocorrects to diapertown!
But she never laughs long. There's never anyone to laugh with, unless you count her giant dogs, Simah and Gegorae. But they have no clue who Dailperduwn or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is.
After cleaning out the small room equipped to hold the entire might of the Ministry, she places the roof back on, makes sure the "glue" is still in the right position and walks back to the mountain near the new Ministry spot. She sighs. She would quit this job, but she needs the protection it gives her from Giant-Hunters. She disappears into her cave and is immediately given a very enthusiastic but licky welcome. She smiles as she makes herself some tea, and finally, squished on her bed between Simah and Gegorae, starts to read. But the book is dull, and she soon slips into sleep.
She is awakened by Simah's loud bark. Gegorae and her jump up in surprise. A loud siren yowls in the distance. She jumps up to get ready, annoying Gegorae from her comfortable position. She pulls on her cloak over her clothes as she runs down the mountain. She notices that she slept through the night, but the Ministry workers would still be there. She had heard there was a nocturnal all-employee meeting. Indeed, everyone knew about that. She suspected that's why they attacked tonight. They knew it too.
She reaches the tall building embossed with M.O.M. She tears off its roof and grabs the screaming humans inside. She throws them into the Safety Center. She does this with all the humans, which takes a while, then closes the cover, locking them in safety.
She stares at the beautiful night sky, ruined by the New Death Eaters firing curses at the now empty ministry building. Though they hadn't noticed her or her doings in the dark with her black cloak, she knew they couldn't ignore her much longer. She shrank into her cave and slipped into her bed. She didn't know how she would get to sleep, but somehow she did.
The next morning she raced over to the Safety Center and opened the door, expecting thank yous and sighs of relief. Instead, she found most people were berating her for picking them up in such a rushed manner. She heard a lot of can't trust a giant to do a human's job. Everyone was quick to tell her every problem with her rescue. She knows she shouldn't have torn off the roof, but how else was she supposed to get them out? She knows that she should have stocked the S.C. with better food, but they didn't "nearly starve!", and how was she supposed to buy better food when the Budget Lady wouldn't trust her to shop on her own, and flat-out refused to buy anything but the canned, gross, In A Hurry®️ food.
She stared at the crowd in disbelief. Not a single thank you. Then, one woman called out,
"Thank you for sav-"
But someone interrupted her, telling her to save your breath and it can't understand us anyway. There was even a, it wasn't much of a rescue anyhow.
Anger flashed through her. These people thought she was a - a - a thing. She grabbed the roof of the S. C., jammed it on, and picked up the entire thing. No one screamed. They thought that the New Death Eaters were back, and she was taking them to a safer spot. They didn't think she was smart enough to betray them. She'd prove them wrong.
She climbed over the mountain. She'd known where Dailperduwn's camp was for ages, but she hadn't decided whether to tell the Ministry. On one hand, Dailperduwn was trying to get justice for non-humans: the house-elves (well some of them, others refused), goblins, giants, etc. Dailperduwn was a half-werewolf, and she imagined that he feels a lot like she does all the time. On the other hand, Dailperduwn's methods were evil, bringing about old memories of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Ugggh. Voldemort. He's gone, she told herself. He's gone, you can say his name. Fear of the name inspires fear of the thing itself. VVOOOOLLLLDDDEEEMMORRTTT!
She had reached the New Death Eater camp. She walked toward a guard looking the opposite way. She rolled her eyes. Who doesn't see a giant approach them?
"I need to speak to your leader. Dailperduwn." She bit back a chuckle.
"He Whose Name Must Not Be Said is not going to see a random person!" the guard said automatically as he turned around slowly.
"Well, I'm not a person, exactly, am I?" She hissed as the guard took in her appearance.
"ahhiieewwwe-e-ell o-of-f co-ur-urse-se, Ms.-?"
"Take me to him," she boomed, purposely not giving her name.
Next chapter: Hermione!
