Happy April Fool's Day out there! Didn't get fooled today!
Have to admit, this is my first time writing something that's not just Leo-related. Mikey's here too! Hope you guys enjoy this little oneshot I made!
Mikey opened his eyes and yawned. He stared at the clock by his bedside. At first, the turtle wanted to continue to sleep. That is, until he saw the date above the time.
April 1st. Or in Mikey's head, Happy April Fool's Day.
'Today's the day!' he thought excitedly.
He was so going to prank his brothers hard today!
Mikey had already decided what to do. Spray Raph's shell hot pink to make him laugh because he needed it lately, make a water balloon trap above the entrance to Donnie's lab so he could cool off, and Leo…
His oldest brother was tricky. The blue masked turtle just had some sixth or seventh sense as Mikey called it, giving Leo the ability to avoid everything he threw at him. He had managed to dodge his water balloons even! And Mikey was sure that was next to impossible, as he had used his water balloon throwing arm.
Making something that his brother couldn't dodge would be hard. He needed the element of surprise. What did Leo do all day? He knew his brother had an exact schedule, because he tried to be perfect. Hmm...what if…?
A light bulb went off in his head.
Mikey zoomed into the kitchen, proceeding to get rid of every single drink in the fridge imaginable, except for some bottles of orange soda. He also decided to hide all of the tea that Master Splinter and Leo loved to use after mediation. Mikey just had a feeling that his brother would come out early and meditate. Especially from all the stress lately.
He mixed a bunch of the soda together in a glass soda bottle, then dropped in a few of those leaves which were used in tea. Hot sauce, sugar, tomato sauce, any other kind of sauce, and...Mikey paused for a moment.
'What else could make this totally awesome?' he thought.
A thought popped into his head. Donnie had a fridge in his lab right? So the orange masked turtle raced to the lab and saw a little mini fridge on the side of his desk. Mikey opened it in curiosity, and was met with immense fascination.
There were so many variations of liquids in the fridge that he couldn't even count all of them. Some were glowy. Others were neon colored. And there was one...that was orange and fizzy.
'Perfect!' Mikey thought.
He went for it, ignoring the huge and flashy signs and notes on the door to the fridge that said, "KEEP OUT!" and, "DON'T TOUCH!" and, "MIKEY-FREE ZONE!" Grabbing the orange liquid, which he now dubbed, "the fizzy juice," the turtle ran into the kitchen again.
Mikey poured the entirety of the fizzy juice into the concoction he had already made. To his surprise, it made the contents of it turn purple. He'd thought it would turn orange. Not that it matters anyway. Leo's gonna drink it whether he liked it or not.
The sound of one of the bedroom doors opening caught the orange masked turtle's attention. Mikey began to scramble as fast as he could, managing to cap the glass bottle and threw on a makeshift label on it that said, "Soda." Lastly he put it on the top shelf, and closed the fridge, and tried to make himself look busy with breakfast.
"Oh, morning Mikey," Leo yawned drowsily. "Didn't think...you were up this early."
It was then that the orange masked turtle realized that his brother was still half asleep. The perfect opportunity!
"Mornin' Leo!" Mikey answered. "I'm just making breakfast for my awesome bros! Omelettes today!"
His oldest brother chuckled. "Sounds good," he answered tiredly.
Leo then walked further into the kitchen and looked at the shelves. He reached up for something, only to find that there was nothing on the top shelf.
'Could've sworn there was some up there,' he thought. 'Did we run out again?'
"Hey Mikey," the blue masked turtle began.
"Yeah, bro?"
"Did we run out of tea yesterday?"
Mikey played along with it. "Think so dude. I remember Splinter sayin' that we had to get more."
"Oh," Leo sighed.
So much for waking up fast. Nevertheless, he went over to the fridge and opened it. Only to see that there was plenty of food, but only one drink. One that was in a glass bottle and said, "Soda" on it in crude handwriting. The turtle really didn't feel like drinking water. He wanted something that could wake him up.
"This soda yours?" Leo asked.
Mikey smirked, but it was hidden from his brother. Leo had fallen for it!
"Yeah dude, that's mine."
"Do you mind if I have it? I just really need something to give me energy."
'He fell for it! Awesome!'
"Sure dude! I wasn't that thirsty anyway," Mikey replied.
"Cool," Leo said. He opened up the bottle, which fizzed. "By the way, what happened to the label?"
"Oh, that," the orange masked turtle said nervously. "It fell off! So I wrote a new one! Amazing handwriting, am I right?"
"Yeah, it looks good," his brother answered, inspecting the label.
Leo proceeded to down the so-called "soda." On the other side, Mikey waited desperately for his reaction. But for Leo, the drink actually didn't taste that bad! Soon, half the bottle was gone!
"Mmm! This is pretty good!" the blue masked turtle stated.
Mikey on the other hand, was extremely confused. "It is?!" he asked.
"Yeah! You want some?"
"No, no! I'm good bro. You enjoy it!"
On the inside, the youngest turtle was actually disgusted, and that rarely happened. Did his brother think it was that good?
Soon, the entire bottle was gone. Leo placed it on the table, very satisfied. A grin was on his face as he stretched his arms a little.
"Wow, I feel a lot better actually!" he exclaimed. "I don't really feel like meditating now. I'd rather go out for a run!" He began to leave.
"Hey Mikey! Tell the others I'll be back in a half an hour okay? I've got my T-Phone! Bye!" And Leo was gone.
Michalengelo could only stare. He looked back and forth between the empty glass bottle and where his brother had left. Twice. Three times. He came up to a conclusion.
"Am I an awesome soda maker?!"
Rooftops, half an hour later...
Leo ran as if there was no tomorrow. He didn't know what was going on, but he felt so energetic. So light. So carefree!
The turtle ran with great speed over the tops of buildings. It was as if there was no longer an end to his stamina. He felt like he could go on forever and not lose energy. Whatever was in that soda helped him out a lot. And he was most definitely awake now.
'I have to thank Mikey after this,' he promised. 'I feel really, really good!'
Dawn was beginning to break over New York City, as another dreary day was going to begin again. The air felt humid and muggy, signalling probably another rainstorm. Not that Leo didn't mind. It was fairly warm out this morning, so having something to cool off would feel nice.
He just felt so good for some reason. So full of energy and life. He didn't feel like stopping. Did Leo have super powers? That would be amazing. He would be able to defeat more enemies and protect his brothers and…
Suddenly, he felt a great amount of pain in his stomach. Leo stopped and clenched his stomach, dropping to his knees. He gritted his teeth, a feral growl escaping his throat. Wasn't he feeling just fine a few moments ago? What had happened to all that energy he had? That speed? That adrenaline? That feeling of going on forever?
The wrappings around his body felt loose, and then fell to the ground. The brown colored knee pads slipped off too. His blue mask fell to his neck, looking like a bandana. Leo eyed it wearily, becoming very nervous. What exactly was going on with his body?
His katanas felt heavier than usual, and Leo couldn't help but get on his hands and knees for some reason. The T-Phone in his belt fell out onto the ground, right in front of him. The turtle reached for it, but for some reason his arms felt shorter, as he couldn't reach it. And they were getting shorter. Finally, just before he could no longer reach, Leo pressed the emergency button.
The weight from his signature weapons was overpowering him, and soon he felt pinned. Everything was getting larger, the world growing. Leo soon felt warmth rush through him rapidly, and it was all getting to be too much for him. It was then that he soon slipped into unconsciousness.
That was when it began to rain.
A few minutes earlier…
"MIKEY! GET BACK HERE YOU IDIOT!"
"AHHHHH!"
The orange masked turtle had succeeded in spray painting Raph's shell pink, and unfortunately was being chased by an angry red masked turtle around the lair. A few minutes ago, he was chased by Donnie, who had successfully been fooled into walking into the water balloon trap. Mikey never felt happier.
It was then that all three turtles got an instant alert on their T-Phones. And from Leo.
"Guys," Donnie said. "Did you get an emergency alert from Leo?"
Both turtles nodded.
"He'll be fine," Raph stated. "He's handled big stuff before. He'll be back soon."
"But Leo said he'd be back in a half an hour," Mikey whined, worried for his brother. "And what if...what if he ran into the Kraang, or Shredder?!"
"He's got a point, Raph," Donnie said. "Even though it's light out, he could've run into trouble. Not only that, but Leo could've been discovered too since it's daylight out. It wouldn't hurt to check right?"
Donnie heard Raph groan. "Fine," he sighed. "But if there's nothing wrong with him, I'm beating you both."
So they ran and got whatever they needed and went topside, even though it was pouring rain. Luckily Donnie had installed a tracker in their T-Phones for situations just like this one. Finding Leo would be no trouble at all.
"Mikey, you saw him earlier this morning right?" the purple masked turtle asked. "How did he look?"
"He was fine," Mikey complained. "Oh! I pranked him this morning. Or...at least I tried to anyway."
His older brothers looked at each other for a moment nervously.
"Oh great, what'cha do to him?" Raph groaned.
"Well," Mikey began. "I didn't know how to prank him, because he always avoids my water balloons and other pranks! But I managed to get him this morning! I hid the tea that he and Master Splinter likes, so Leo was forced to drink a bottle of bad tasting soda I made! I can't even pull off big stuff with him, and he fell for it!"
"But, Leo liked it for some reason. I didn't drink it, but I knew it would taste bad. Then he drank the whole thing and decided he was feeling amazing! So he went out. I guess I'm a pretty good soda maker aren't I?"
A thought was lingering in the back of Donnie's mind, and he unfortunately had the courage to ask Mikey about it.
"What did you use to make it?" he asked.
"Oh! Some different kinds of soda, a bunch of sauces, like hot sauce, tomato sauce, some of that tea, and some of that fizzy orange juice in your mini-fridge!"
"WHAT?!" Raph and Donnie exclaimed as they stopped.
"I know right!" Mikey exclaimed. "And he drank the whole thing too! I thought it was gross but he loved it!"
"Mikey," Donnie snapped. "That was another rejected batch of retro-mutagen! How many times have I told you not to go in there?!"
"None actually," his brother answered. "Hehe."
The purple masked turtle growled in anger, but then calmed. "Okay then, now we better find him. Because of you, Leo drank some rejected retro-mutagen!"
"I'm sorry!" Mikey whined. "I didn't know!"
Raph then proceeded to hit both of them in the back of the head. "Would you two idiots shut up?! We'll find him then you can apologize to him okay Mikey?!"
His youngest brother whimpered, but nodded his head. He felt extremely guilty for giving Leo that soda earlier.
"If he's still a regular mutant turtle that is…" Donnie whispered.
They continued across the rooftops, the rain pouring down harder. The winds became stronger, and nearly threw them off. But after a half an hour of following the signal, they finally were near the rooftop that Leo's T-Phone alert had come off of.
"Now remember," the genius turtle told them. "If he's a regular turtle, handle him gently. When we get back, I believe I still have some mutagen that could fix him. Depending on his condition of course. So just be careful, alright?"
Both nodded, and leaped onto the next building. Only to be met with shock. All of Leonardo's possessions were sprawled on the ground, soaking wet. His T-Phone lay near his katanas, and surprisingly was still working despite it being in a puddle. But their suspicions were then proven true when they saw the wrappings and the knee pads on the ground.
All three brothers were now frantic, as there was no sign of their brother anywhere.
"Leo?!" Mikey yelled.
There was no answer.
"Be careful where you step guys," Donnie mentioned. "For all we know, we could've stepped on him without knowing."
The orange masked turtle fearfully looked under his foot and thankfully saw nothing there. He signed, then proceeded to look around. Mikey then decided to look over by his big brother's katana's when…
"Ah-choo!"
Mikey lifted his head. He could've sworn he heard a very high sneeze. He continued to search.
"Ah-choo!"
There it was again. A very high pitched sneeze.
"Did you guys hear something?" he asked.
"No."
"Nothing over here."
Mikey put his hand on his chin. "Could've sworn there was-"
"Ah-choo!"
This time, they all heard it.
The three turtles then glanced over at the katanas, which they now noticed that they were uneven. Meaning that there must be something underneath it. Carefully, the turtles walked over to them. Mikey went ahead, and lifted the swords.
And was immediately shocked with cuteness.
"Awwww," he said.
"Ah-choo!"
Leo sneezed.
'What...happened…?'
It was still pouring rain out, and somehow, he had regained consciousness after feeling a great amount of pain earlier. His body was soaking wet, and he was freezing, more than usual. He shivered, hoping to get some warmth.
Then, he noticed that there was a great weight bearing down on him. Leo tried to lift it, but he couldn't. It was too much for him to handle.
'Why can't I lift this thing?'
Leo then felt the leather on this back. Were these...his katana? No, they couldn't be. They were so much lighter than this. So why did it feel like he was being crushed by his katanas then? Something wasn't right here.
He opened his eyes, and looked up. Sure enough, it was his signature choice of weapon on top of him. And he couldn't lift them up. But that wasn't the only thing. Everything looked extremely bigger by his standards. So why…?
That was when he felt something weird. His stomach felt like it was touching the ground. But that couldn't be true. He had a shell, so he shouldn't be able to feel it. Leo moved a little, and felt a weird sensation.
'What the heck?'
The only thing he could really describe it as was fur. Leo had fur? But that was impossible. Turtles didn't have fur right? At least he knew he didn't. His brothers didn't have it either.
It was then that Leo thought back to earlier. What had happened earlier that caused this? He got up early this morning. Went into the kitchen. Saw Mikey. And…
'Mikey's soda,' he thought. 'Did it cause this?'
"Ah-choo!"
Leo nearly gasped at the sound. It was so high pitched that he knew that it wasn't his normal voice. Come to think of it, he felt extremely different than normal, his body at least.
He shivered again, the cold getting to him. Leo closed his eyes, consciousness fading again. His fur, or whatever it was, was damp and soaked, chilling him greatly. He closed his eyes, clinging to the warmth that was left in his body. He felt so weak. Weak and defenseless.
He was going to die wasn't he?
"I don't...wanna die…" a high shrill voice spoke.
His eyes would've widened in shock if he had the energy. Now he knew something was wrong. Leo sounded young, like a kid.
Footsteps were heard. Someone was on the rooftop. He could vaguely make out their voices. Who were they to be exact? A slight pang of fear rose in his heart. What if they were Footbots? Or Kraang?
"Ah-choo!" he sneezed.
He couldn't hold it in. Leo was so cold that it felt like he was freezing.
"Ah-choo!" the high pitch sneeze sounded.
His body was weak and helpless to hold it back in. He couldn't do anything. His strength was leaving and all Leo wanted to do was sleep.
"Ah-choo!"
Leo thinks the voices heard him. He grew fearful, but there was nothing he could do. The footsteps grew louder and louder. The fear of being taken away growing faster and faster. Until something lifted the weight off of his back.
He barely heard the sound of an, "Awwww," then felt himself being picked up. Picked up? That was weird. But whoever his savior was, it was warm. All Leo wanted was warmth. So he curled up closer to it, closer to the source of the warmth.
A vibration was felt. *Thump thump.* *Thump thump.* What was that? A heartbeat maybe? Whatever it was, it soothed him. He liked the sound. So he cuddled close to it.
"Mommy…" he whispered.
'Wait a sec! I don't have a mom! At least I don't think...So why am I…'
His eyes closed completely, falling asleep. He could just barely register the feeling of being carried. It didn't matter to him. Leo wasn't going to die. And he just wanted to be warm.
Time passed, and he realized he was warm. It felt like he was completely surrounded by something. Something soft and fuzzy. A blanket maybe? Leo moved slightly, and wanted to wake up and find out where he was. More importantly, he wanted to find out who saved him.
"Guys! Guys!" Was that Mikey? "He's waking up!"
Definitely Mikey.
More footsteps came, and there was heavy breathing. His brothers maybe?
Leo yawned, pushing the blanket aside. He opened his eyes. Only to be greatly confused by everything around him.
"Leo?" Mikey asked.
"Mmm...Mikey?" he said, high pitched voice still there. "Why is everything so...big?"
His little brother smiled happily, and began to cry. "Leo!" he exclaimed. "You're okay! I'm never giving you any soda I make ever again!"
"What?"
On the side, Raph began to chuckle a little. Now he was even more confused.
"Well ummm," Donnie began.
"Is something wrong with me?" Leo asked.
He heard his genius brother sigh. "Mikey decided to prank you because today was April Fool's. Unfortunately, he decided to go into my fridge and take out something from there. And he threw some rejected retro-mutagen in the soda you drank this morning."
A shiver went up his spine. Had he retro-mutated? Was he a normal turtle now? No, he couldn't be. He was still able to talk to his brothers.
"What do I look like?"
Donnie swallowed, and held up a mirror.
Leo felt his heart rate spike. He was no longer looking at a fifteen year old mutant turtle with human-like features and a dark blue mask.
In the mirror was a tiny, black ball of fluff. A black kitten with dark blue eyes.
"I'm a…" Leo trailed off, his voice feeling as if it broke.
Raph started to laugh. The cat ears on Leo's head drooped slightly.
"You called Mikey your...your...HAHAHA!" the red masked turtle laughed.
He understood, and his head was down. Leo was just so embarrassed. Thankfully the black fur hid his blush.
Donnie saw this however. "It's okay. It's only natural for kittens at the stage you're at to want their mother. And you were on the verge of getting mild hypothermia out there too, so it isn't a surprise that you wanted someone warm."
Leo looked up at him. "Will I ever be the same again?"
"Luckily I have a bunch of our DNA stored away when I did physical examinations every year," Donnie stated. "And I do have one last canister of mutagen left. It might take a few hours, but I believe I can get you back to normal. Just give me some time."
"Thanks Donnie," Leo answered.
"In the meantime…" Mikey started. He picked up the black kitten that was his oldest brother.
"Wait a minute!" Leo exclaimed.
"I'm going to make your day better bro!" he answered.
"Mikey!"
But the black kitten and his captor were already gone. As the orange masked turtle ran, he heard Leo's little stomach growl.
"You haven't eaten anything have you?" his youngest brother commented, running into the kitchen.
Leo shook his head. He was going to eat breakfast after he came back from his run. But then this happened. The question was that could he still eat normal food? Because if he couldn't then he could get sick.
"Don't worry dude! Chef Mikey's going to have a buffet for you!"
The kitten sighed, knowing that whatever he said wouldn't be able to get his little brother out of what he was doing. So Leo waited, listening to the sound of sizzling meat cook on a pan. His nose was extra sensitive to the smell, and it only made his stomach growl more. His mouth watered at the smell of it.
Once Mikey was done, he put whatever it was on a plate and put it in front of the tiny kitten. It was a big plate, but there was a small amount of meat in the center of it.
"Fish cooked to perfection, just for you Leo!" Mikey exclaimed.
Leo licked it, tasting the fish. Then he took a bite, and surprisingly, it was really good. He ate more of it. All the while Mikey watched, a smile growing on his face.
'I promise I'm going to make up for what I did,' he vowed. 'Leo's gonna have the best day ever!'
"Mmm!" Leo hummed, as almost all the fish was gone. "It's really good!"
"That's cause I'm a master chef, bro!"
The rest of the day was spent between the two of them. Mikey took a lot of advantage of the fact that his oldest brother was a kitten. Something like that had a lot of energy. And boy did Leo have a lot of it.
"Come back Leo!" the orange masked turtle ran after his brother.
He laughed as he ran, with speed he never had when he was in his usual form. While at first, Leo wasn't entirely happy with being a kitten, mostly because of Raph, Mikey had succeeded in making his day a lot better.
Thankfully for the entire day, they had the lair to themselves. Master Splinter had taken April out on a couple of training missions and wouldn't be back for a few days. This was good for Leo, since he somewhat anticipated that he'd unfortunately attack Splinter out of pure cat instinct.
So yeah, they had the entire day to themselves.
"Gotcha!" Mikey yelled.
"Ahh!" Leo yelped, now being picked up.
His deep blue eyes stared at Mikey for a moment. Then, the two began to laugh. The youngest turtle was enjoying this immensely. None of his brothers had played with him like this in forever. So to be able to do this with Leo felt like a dream. A dream he never wanted to end.
"Leo!" they both heard Donnie call from his lab. "It's ready!"
"Okay!" the kitten yelled.
He jumped out of Mikey's grasp and landed on his paws. Leo climbed up the steps into Donnie's lab. Only, his brother wasn't following him.
"Mikey?" he mewed. "Is something wrong?"
His brother stood still for a moment, looking at the ground. Leo walked up to him and rubbed his leg in comfort.
"You can tell me you know," the kitten said.
"If you...change back," Mikey whispered. "Will you go back to the way you were before?"
"I'll be back to normal," Leo answered. "If that's what your…"
But one look on his youngest brother's face told him everything. The events today showed him even more so.
'He thinks we don't pay attention to him enough,' he thought.
"Mikey, do you think that we don't listen and play with you?"
The orange masked turtle nodded his head slowly.
"Oh Mikey…"
Leo nudged his head against his brother's leg in affection. Kitten instincts told him to.
"I'm sorry we made you feel this way," he told him. "I promise to hang out with you more when I'm back to normal okay? I'll play with you just like we did now. We can play video games too if you like."
At this Mikey beamed. "Re...really?!" he asked.
The black kitten smiled.
Mikey picked his brother up. "You're the best bro!"
"Ah! Mikey! Put me down please!" Leo begged.
They soon went into Donnie's lab, and said turtle stood there next to a bowl filled with a neon blue colored liquid. Leo's wrappings and knee pads were on the table.
"Drink this slowly Leo," he said. "It may be a little painful when your body transforms into what you were before. So nice and steady got it? Come on Mikey."
Both turtles left the room, leaving the kitten to drink out of the bowl. He licked up the substance, finding its taste to be sweet. Soon, the entirety of it was gone, leaving an empty bowl behind.
Leo groaned, feeling the oncoming waves of pain reach him again. He closed his eyes and embraced it, hoping that in the end, he would be back to normal for good this time.
On the outside, his brothers waited for him.
"Do you think he'll be okay?" Mikey asked.
"He'll be fine," Raph stated, reading a comic book. "Fearless can handle anything that's thrown at him."
The door to the lab opened, and out stepped a very normal, fifteen year old mutant turtle, complete with blue mask and everything. Mikey's eyes widened in excitement, and he ran to his oldest brother.
"Leo!" he exclaimed in happiness, hugging him. "You're okay!"
Said turtle chuckled, patting his brother on the head. "I'm fine Mikey," he answered. "Do you want to play some video games?"
"Heck yeah bro!"
A month had passed since then, and at the moment, the four brothers, along with Splinter, April, and Casey were celebrating their most recent victory of saving the city from the Kraang, who had caused earthquakes with giant mutagen worms. Not only that, but they celebrated their victory over the Foot as well, having safely rescued Master Splinter from Shredder.
The night was filled with pizza and laughs. And while Leo sulked over the fact that they couldn't get Karai back this time, he eventually began to have fun. It was then that he was thirsty.
"Hey Casey!" he yelled. "Toss me a can soda would ya?"
"Sure thing Leo!" The teen said, tossing a can his way. Leo grabbed it with his right hand, and proceeded to open it. He hadn't had a can of soda since the incident a few months ago. But this was normal soda, not like the one Mkey made.
He didn't blame his brother after that event. Mikey was only trying to have a little bit of fun on April Fool's Day. And Leo had to admit, he had fun on that day too. Even if he was in the body of a tiny black furred kitten for most of it.
None of them told Splinter or their friends what happened that day. This was something Leo was very thankful for. At least some of this dignity was intact after that. Except from time to time when Raph would tease him about it. But that was the usual thing he did anyway.
The turtle downed the soda quick, not even realizing how thirsty he was. And for some reason afterward, he didn't feel so good.
'Oh no…' he thought in horror. 'This was just normal soda! Not like Mikey made!'
Swiftly, Leo ran to his room without anyone noticing. He shut the door behind him, just as the waves of pain coursed through his body. His eyes closed, embracing it, not being able to do a single thing about it.
His wrappings came loose and so did his knee pads. His mask slipped to his neck. This time around, it seemed to be faster, because a minute later, Leonardo was once again on all fours, with tiny paws, cat ears, cat nose, and black fur.
That was when he realized he was trapped in his room.
'Not again!'
Author's Note
I swear I just love Leo and the whole cat aesthetic with him.
Anyway, little April Fool's one shot for all of you! Hope you like it!
Let me know what you guys think!
Until next time, See ya Universe!
