Chapter 1: First Step

'A step through this wall and I will be a step closer towards my goal' Chris thought excitedly. He walked through the wall which felt as if he walking through a membrane. Hogwarts express stood before him, a glorious cherry red engine. Chris knew this train would take him to his destination 'Hogwarts: The Magical School'. He had planned his life goals a decade ago when 'Fate' dropped him into this reality. 'Fate' had chosen him to save the world three decades from now when the 'Statute of Secrecy' was breached and the non magical population began their genocide. 'J K Rowling may have ended the series but the world still progressed'. Years of stagnation and corruption spelled the doom of magical society. His mission was simple. Stop the breach in secrecy thus halting the genocide or close the 'Gate of Mana' before the world becomes saturated with magic. 'Fate' was kind enough to give him a parting gift, a rune tattooed on his forearms that gave him few interesting benefits. The most important of which was a sub space in which he could store items. He just had to touch the item and exert his will to store it away. It was not infinite storage but with the size of the space it had, it could be considered one. The rune also store memories within it which was sorted automatically making it incredibly convenient to recollection. This essentially gave him eidetic memory and protection from mind magic. The design of the rune itself was impressive yet Chris found it lacking flavour. Thus he had tattooed around it to make it look artistic. 'A moon on his left forearm while a Sun on his right, the tattoo looked intimidating because of the runic language that crawled within the tattoo as if centipedes where running within. It was both mesmerising and terrifying due to projection of magic that made it look lifelike. A decade had passed since he had come to this world. With three decades of knowledge from his past, Chris could have established himself as a genius but he found it troublesome and meaningless. He had no one to prove his worth to because ever since he was born he was alone. He had lived in an orphanage till he could run and fight after which he ran away. A little exploring had given him few choices of abandoned trailer home, run down house and garages. By conveniently moving from one house to another, he always had a roof above his head. Thievery and tricks helped him to live comfortably. Such was the character of Christopher Wyatt, a man turned boy who eased his way through life. He liked anonymity and control rather than playing hero and being controlled. His morals ended where opportunity rose. Chris tried his hand in acquiring skills in music, art and language. The decade was spent disciplining both his body and mind while exploring many mundane skills. From cooking to poetry, from sculpting to blacksmithing Chris loved to explore and enjoy his life more than pointlessly worrying about future. These skills where learned through nearly two decades of training from both his past and present life. He had not mastered any of the skills but some such as cooking were close enough. Chris spotted a toad which he knew belonged to a boy named Neville Longbottom. Smiling at the toad who innocently sat on the floor, he scooped it into his arm and made his way into an empty compartment. After securely placing the toad into his subspace, Chris willed a book and his Walkman and busied himself by reading. After all Chris hated conversations much less with kids.

Harry Potter thanked Molly Weasley and swiftly searched for a less crowded compartment. He found one at the end in which a peculiar boy sat in. The boy had earphones on as he concentrated on a book. Walking in, Harry tapped the boy's shoulder to get his attention.

"How can I help you?" The boy looked at Harry questioningly

Harry looked at a seat opposite to the boy's and asked.

"May I sit here?"

"Please do..." thus ended their c0nversation as Harry whispered thanks. Placing his trunk down Harry sat down watching the boy. The boy was tall and muscular with long black hair that flowed freely to the right. The hair was shortened on the sides and back giving the boy an interesting look. His ear's adored a silver stud earrings complemented the look. His dark blue eyes too were peculiar as they seemed to be a glow with confidence. Harry caught himself staring at the boy and quickly looked away embarrassed.

Chris gave a quick glance to the young Daniel Radcliffe sitting opposite to him before shrugging and continued reading. 'Pity it isn't green'. He had long since decided to not willingly add himself into the golden trio or assisting them in their quest. With the amount of attention that would put him in, Chris wished to stand as far as away as he can from them. A passing thought of Hermione made him somewhat reluctant. Hermione after all is a promising witch and a future Minister of Magic. Add that to the fact that she would grow up to become beautiful, Chris knew he would most likely steal her for himself. 'It would be fun to see how far Harry and Ron can go without the help of the brightest witch of the generation'. Ron Weasley was next to come into the compartment claiming others were full which Chris knew was a lie. This was the reason Chris disliked the boy. Even with a house full of talented brothers, Ron drove himself into jealously without adding an effort into improving himself. Harry Potter was in the receiving end of this jealously as Ron deliberately dragged the boy down. 'Without Hermione, I bet Ron won't be able to pass his first year'. Though Ron tried to gain his attention, Chris ignored the boy. With Harry Potter to talk with, Ron soon stopped bothering.

A young Emma Watson and Matthew Lewis walked into the compartment searching for a missing toad which Chris had safely hidden. He knew well that this toad belonged to Neville but given the boy's herbology past (or future), Chris was curious to know what the magical toad can do. With camouflaging ability the toad exhibited, Chris knew there was more to the toad that meets the eye. Hermione helped herself into the compartment to watch Ron's pitiful display of magic. Displaying her intelligence with a quick magical performance and listing a couple of books on Harry, she paused to look at the final person in the compartment. Chris was listening in but since he had earphones on, Hermione thought he wasn't listening. Watching the boy engrossed in a book, Hermione became curious. A quick peek to find it was hand written drove her curiosity to its limit.

"Hello...What are you reading?" She asked hesitantly

"Oh hello...it's just a book I wrote..." Chris laughed in his mind as he saw Hermione jump in shock.

"You wrote a book!" She said in disbelief

"Yes...I wrote few books..." Chris said with a smile

Hermione became silent for the first time she had entered the compartment. She had a hesitant look on her face before she asked,

"Could you lend me a book...you wrote" Hermione said nervously. Chris knew she would never give up on a new book she had set her eyes on. Given her respect towards writers and her disbelief to know one was her class mate, Chris decided it would do well to show some of his skills. He reached into his trunk as if to take something before willing a book into his hand.

"This is my first book...I hope you will enjoy it. Please forgive me since it's handwritten. I had corrected few parts making it a bit messy"

"It's okay...Thank you for the book. I will return it as soon as possible..." Hermione said excitedly.

"I am Hermione Granger by the way" She introduced herself again.

"Your parents must have loved Shakespeare... Nice to meet you Hermione...I am Christopher Wyatt" Chris said with a light smile watching a smile blossoming on Hermione's face and added "But please call me Chris"

"Okay Chris... But please let me read that book afterwards...I promise to help you if you need my help" Hermione said sincerely as she looked at the book he was holding.

"Sure...I will hold you up for the offer "An excited Hermione got up to resume the search for the missing toad. A new conversation arose about different houses, Ron's family and Quidditch.

"Did you hear about Gringotts? It's been all over the Daily Prophet, but I don't suppose you get that with the Muggles – someone tried to rob a high security vault" Ron said. 'Should I look into Philosophers' stone or not 'Chris still considered. Immortality meant nothing to Chris but the allure of gold still haunted his mind. He hated depending on school funds which made the allure all the more powerful.

Chris was brought back from his thoughts by Draco Malfoy and his two goons; Crabbe and Goyle. Things escalated quickly as Draco ran him mouth on Pureblood superiority until Goyle got bitten by Scabbers, Ron's pet rat, for trying to steal a Chocolate Frog. The trio ran out of the compartment screaming about rats much to the amusement of Chris.

A voice echoed through the train 'We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes' time. Please leave your luggage on the train; it will be taken to the school separately'

Reaching into the trunk Chris secretly willed the Walkman and book into his subspace. He got up to leave reminding the two boys to change.
