A/N I do not own anything you may recognise, I have not read Anne of Green Gables, this is solely based on Anne with an E. Enjoy!

Anne felt sick. Her stomach hurt, her entire body ached, and she had a high fever. Yesterday she had felt the same way, maybe a bit better, but it had only worsened since then. The redhead had sent a letter complaining to Gilbert of her discomfort.

Anne's thoughts were interrupted when her bosom friend, Diana, crashed through their bedroom door in a most unladylike manner. "Diana, what is it?" Moaned Anne tiredly.

"A letter from Gilbert, he sent it with first class, it must be important." Answered her concerned and loving friend.

"Could you read it out to me?" Asked Anne, eyes closed. Diana nodded and began to read.

"Dearest Anne,

I am sorry to hear that you feel unwell, and since I have nothing important going on at the moment, I have decided to come visit you to make sure you are well.

Love always, Gilbert"

"He's coming here?" Diana nodded. "Does it say when?" Diana shook her head. She looked on aghast as Anne attempted to get out of her bed to change before she rushed over to tuck her back in. "I feel dizzy." Mumbled a mournful Anne.

"I know Anne, I know. You have to rest." Assured Diana. She watched as her sickly friend closed her eyes once more and sighed. Before they both knew it, a knock resounded at the door. Diana bustled over to open it and nearly fell over as she saw Gilbert standing there. "Gilbert! How did you get here so quickly?"

He peered round the door, a concerned look in his eyes. "I took the first train here as soon as I got her letter, has she gotten any better?" Diana shook her head,

"No. Only worse." At those words Gilbert strode into the room and crouched down next to Anne's bed.

"Hey. How are you feeling?" He asked gently. Anne only replied with a huff. Gilbert sat up straight and placed a hand on her forehead, causing Anne to shiver. He turned to Diana, "She has a fever." He then turned back to his beloved. "What else is causing you discomfort?"

"My entire body aches, my stomach hurts, and I felt dizzy when I tried to move." Gilbert shook his head worriedly.

"Sounds like a bad case of the flu." He said, a calm and steady tone entering his voice, one that Anne would later know as his doctor voice. "A few days of rest and you'll be right as rain once more." He said grinning at her, only to be greeted by an obviously uncomfortable Anne. "Diana?"

"Yes?"

"Would you mind leaving for a bit so that I can tend to Anne?"

"Of course." Agreed Diana. She then slipped out.

After Diana had left, Gilbert devoted his attention to Anne, Tucking her in after airing out her bed sheets, putting a cold flannel on her burning forehead, and singing to her softly as she fell asleep. By the time Diana returned to her room with supper for the young couple, she found them both asleep. Of course, this expected from Anne but Gilbert was still crouched on the floor and leaning his head against Anne's at the side of her bed. His hand clutching her wrist, as if he had wanted to check her pulse but held onto her hand anyway.

Diana sighed contentedly at her friends and reached over to put a blanket over Gilbert, not wanting to disturb them. She then placed the food on Anne's bedside table and got into bed herself.

Within minutes the only sound in the room was Gilbert's light snoring.
