Ellen sat in shock. She had just met her husband's wife and more to the point she liked her. Kim was sweet. In a perfect world Ellen and Kim would be friends. Clearly it was not a perfect world they were living in. One of them had to go and Kim had a child. She had a child that needed two parents. He couldn't grow up like the dust of life.

Ellen blinked away tears. She had known all along in some way or another that this day would come. Kim and Chris were each other's first love and yet they were from different worlds. Without intervention this situation could end up being a complete disaster.

It would be alright for her but not for Kim and not for Tam. Ellen took a bag and packed her things. It was the last thing in the world she wanted to do but her heart told her what she had to do.

Oh Chris, she thought to herself, please forgive me. I love you too much to stay.

While Ellen was in the middle of packing Chris walked in.

"Ellen what..."

"Kim is here," Ellen said quietly, "and so is Tam. Chris, I love you but THEY need you. I know you love me but I'm never going to be loved by you the way you love Kim. It's impossible. You two are from different worlds and without intervention this will probably be a disaster."

"Ellen," Chris said reaching out for her, "I love you."

"I know," Ellen said hugging him, "But you love Kim more then you'll ever love me. She needs you more then I ever will."

Chris knew she was right.

"But- but where will you go," he asked her.

"I'll probably go to my brother's," Ellen said, "I promise you Chris we will see each other again but not as husband and wife. Your wife is in the next room sleeping and so is your son."

"Wait," Chris said his eyes lighting up, "You mean Kim is literally here?"

"Kim is literally in the next room," Ellen said, "I can't stay."

Chris and Ellen exchanged one last tearful embrace. It would be hard for both of them but Chris knew Ellen was right. His heart belonged to Kim and Kim alone. He loved Ellen but not as a wife. He loved her as a friend.

Kim woke up shortly after Chris came into the room.

"Chris-"

She was interrupted by a kiss.

"Chris we can't do this," she said, "You have another wife."

"Ellen left me," Chris said, "She knew that you were the one I love. I love her too but not as I love you. You hold my heart."

Tam woke up shortly after that.

"Who this," Tam asked referring to Chris.

"Oh Tam," Kim said holding him close, "That's your daddy."

"Hi daddy," Tam said.

"Hey buddy," Chris replied stroking his hair.

Ellen and Chris officially divorced a week later. Several months after that Chris married Kim. Ellen was the Maid of Honor; John the best man. Tam, Kim and Chris lived happily together.
