The World Ends With You

Today marked April 3rd, as the children were split within their own groups within the cafeteria. And although things among them seemed to remain the same, they were indeed different. Unlike most days, there was a shift that only a few noticed. Those that did, were perceptive by nature, as they began to wonder what came of Ronnie Anne and Lincoln. Since the start of lunch, those two were sitting by the edge of a table talking. One a loner, and the other was a geek. They didn't have much in common, seeing how one was a pacifist by nature and the other wasn't. None of their classmates said a thing about them, seeing how Ronnie Anne was known to play her tricks on the poor white hair kid.

They all thought the same thing. Ronnie Anne was the school number one bully, with her sights on Lincoln. True to her title, she did get physical between other schoolmates when they stepped on her bowl of cereal. It's a weird way to eat cereal. Fortunately for them, Lincoln received the short stick of salvation. Correction haircuts, emergency pants, first-aid and a properly prepared will was the essentials located in his locker. Every school day brought a new journey as he ventured forth to the unknown. So why were they sitting together? He didn't seem to mind as they shared a chuckle or two. Their conversation was soft-spoken as none of the words could reach the mass and their curious minds.

Ronnie Anne gave a playful punch of his arm. Lincoln flinched yet gave one of his own. And seeing his fist making contact on her person brought fear towards the children. Did he just ignited an explosive device? Would they need to prepare a shelter to protect themselves?

No.

Their laughter resumed as their conversation continued. The children were beyond scared. Their mind were reaching new grounds as they became acute with their observation. Every muscle, blinking eyes, and laughter were under scrutiny of the worried children of Royal Woods Elementary. They were in their final year before advancing to Jr. High though they weren't sure they would arrive to the new building in one piece.

Lincoln and Ronnie Anne stood up and emptied out their trays. Seeing how those two were done, a part of their hearts became tranquil. No longer was the end of days upon them. But it only lasted for a moment as the explosion took its place. Just before the pair left, they did something no one expected. It was subtle, but clear as they walked out. Both connected together through their conjoined hands.

Somehow, they missed the moment when those two became a couple. To think, Ronnie Anne had feelings to express. And expressed she did. For those that were fortunate enough to see through the glass opening on the cafeteria doors, they got to witness a quick exchange between the two.

It was mainly their silhouette, but they connected the dots well enough to understand what was happening out there. And like that, the cafeteria went on a rampage by the news. Chaos ensured as the pieces began to fall into place.

"Did you notice how everyone else was looking at us?" Spoke one of the two. They were going through their lockers. The distance were a mere few as they held their talk in public.

"Yeah, like they were watching some NATGeo Mundo or something..."

They both looked at each other before shuffling their things around. "So, are you free today after school?"

"Yeah...why?" Ronnie Anne closed her locker door. "You want to invite me on a date?" Her tease was half hopefulness and half playfulness.

"Something like that. It's not extravagant but I want to see if you would like to come by my house to play Muscle Fish 3 with me. What do you think?" He was a bit nervous seeing how they were still new to the couple game. It hadn't been a week yet since they had their official first kiss.

"Wow...meeting the parents already. You really don't waste time with that, do you?" She smiled, knowing that she met his folks already. The last time they met, Ronnie Anne was still 'just' a friend to Lincoln. Even though his family and hers were insistent that they were far more than close buds, that didn't stop them from hanging out at each other's respective house.

"Shut up, I'm serious. You're going to be the end of me." His worry was discarded as he gave another soft blow to her arm. It didn't retract back, but rather stayed on contact with her body. Seeing that opportunity, she grabbed his wrist and pulled the boy in. Their eyes met as they could see nothing else but their nose.

"That's right. I am your end. But I'm also this."

It felt soft though by nature, sharp in its taste. And he noticed a faint grape flavor in the mix. Most likely a new lip balm she was trying. Well apparently, so was he as they both savored their exchange. Opening his eyes, he noticed hers remained shut. He could see the finer features, drinking in the sight of a beautiful girl. Her skin was not fair as Lucy's, nor was it as hard as Lynn's. And holding her hands, he began to make the distinction between holding the hand of just a girl and a girl he likes a lot.

He pulled away for a moment to breathe, only to get pulled back by the girl. She inhaled deeply before she decided that was more than enough. She gave a sigh. In total bliss, she and Lincoln were happy with what they became. They weren't the most affectionate, like their older siblings, but they still cared for one another. No one should mess with him, or else they will get reunited with 'Ol' Betsy'.

And although it had a tingling effect on her, seeing Lincoln treating her with care felt nice once and a while. When she punched Chandler for playing a prank on Lincoln, she somehow cut her hand. He was sent to the infirmary as she tried to hide her injury. However, it proved to be a failure as Lincoln pulled her away to get treated. In his locker, he had enough medical supplies to wrap a mummy up. Feeling his gentle hands over her, she couldn't help but to look away. No boy ever treated her like a girl before. She winced when he applied the alcohol pad but relaxed when he blew cool air over the sanitized spot. Skillfully and quickly, he mended her cut. Telling her the last thing she needed was a scar. He gave it a kiss, before handing back her mummified hand.

She felt upset, but not detrimentally. Her chest felt tensed as she felt the urge to punch something. And although she could have, she knew something else that could alleviate the itch. She thanked him before giving a quick kiss on his lips. It was the least she could do, but in doing so, she was introduced to something new. A flicker ignited deep inside as she began to view Lincoln differently. He wasn't the weak loser she thought he was. He was actually dependable and caring.

"We should go before they come."

"Yeah... I don't think I can't handle them looking at us."

The pair walked toward their last class with Ms. Johnson. They would be the first there, but they didn't mind. It only gave them more time to talk. All while a food fight was happening in the cafeteria as many faculty staffs were called to regain order. Screams of terror were made, yet the doors were closed. Locking up the sound and the mess. Unbeknown to the two children, it seems like Ms. Johnson would be late to class today.
