The Ghost slowly made its way across the landscape. This place had been lost to the Fallen so long ago that no Ghost had dared venture here without a Fireteam to protect it. But this Ghost had a feeling, as if the Traveler had chosen her for this mission. She was going to find a new Guardian. But she was beginning to lose hope. She had been searching for days, with no sign of any souls with enough Light to be revived. It seems that no person had been alive here in years. She was about to signal to the Vanguard, to tell them that she had no luck and needed to be extracted, when she caught a glint of Light in her sensors. She hovered over to the crumbled building and found the soul. There was so much light contained within them. With great excitement she prepared for a full revival. She could tell they was going to be an important Guardian.
All he felt was pain. It was like fire, searing across his body. His nerves were going haywire. With a gasp he sat bolt upright, his eyes wide and panting. He clutched at his side out of reflex, as he remembered a sharp pain there. With a groan he fell back down and laid there.
"Eyes up Guardian" Said a female voice.
He opened his eyes again, looking for the source of the voice, but seeing nothing.
"Over here Guardian" the voice called out.
He found the voice. It was a floating shape. It had what looked like horns pointing out of it.
"What are you?" He said with a raspy voice.
"I am a Ghost. I'm your Ghost to be more specific. My job is to keep you alive, so that you may fight for the Traveler" She said proudly.
"I'm sorry what?" He said with a confused face.
"When we get out of here I will explain it in more detail." The Ghost said, the horns spinning around its central sphere.
"Ok then. What happened to me?" He asked, slowly standing up.
"Well, you died. How long ago, I am not sure, but you had enough Light in you for me to be able to resurrect you from the dead" She said.
He couldn't believe it. He was dead. How did he die? All he remembered was… Well, nothing. Just pain, screams, and a hand reaching out. What had happened to him?
"Guardian, are you ok? You keep zoning out on me" The Ghost said.
"Yeah… Yeah, I'm ok. Just trying to wrap my head around everything," He said with a sigh, "Wait, what year is it?"
"Why, it's the year 3020" The Ghost said proudly.
He flinched and stumbled backwards. That couldn't be right.
"It can't be. It's 2020. Not 3020. Right?" He said, panic rising in his voice.
"Oh my, you are the oldest Guardian ever to be revived. If you think it's 2020, then that was when the Traveler first arrived. You are a valuable asset to the City and the records." The Ghost said with surprise evident in its voice.
He suddenly fell to his knees and vomited. The shock of his death and subsequent revival 1000 years later was just too much for him to process.
"Guardian! Are you ok?!" The Ghost asked with a sense of urgency in her voice.
"I-I'm ok. Just… Everything got to me. It's a lot to process." He said shakily.
A screech cut through the air around him. He spun around, trying to locate the origin of the sound.
"That was an Archon. We need to get out of here now Guardian. I'll scan the area for a ship." The Ghost said.
"I know where the Airport is. Let's go there. Let's hope I know how to fly" He said, starting to walk in a direction the Ghost hadn't checked yet.
"Wait, that's where the Archon is!" The Ghost cried, as the Archon rounded the corner, slamming a fist into the new Guardian.
As he flew backwards, his memories started to come back. He knew how to fight but couldn't remember how. He needed a weapon for this kind of enemy. His armour had a small knife, however. He hit the ground, bouncing once before sliding to a stop. He got to his feet with a groan, pulling the knife from its sheath. He charged at the Archon, slamming into it and driving his knife into its side. It grabbed his right arm, roaring from the pain and tried to break it, only for the Guardian to yank the knife out before the Archon could do any damage to him.
"Yeah, that's not gonna work" He said with a smirk in his voice.
He then thrust upwards, driving the knife into the skull of the Archon. The grip of the Archon loosening as its brain began to shut down. He pulled the knife out, letting the Archon fall to its knees and then the floor.
"You fought well. Rest easy" He said, much to the surprise of his Ghost.
With a final grunt from the Archon, it heaved its last breath and laid still. The Guardian saluted the Archon, giving a final show of respect to the beast. He then noticed a white shape on the ground near the Archon. He walked over to it, picking it up and examining it.
"That's an Engram. A fifth state of matter, after Plasma. They can hold weapons, armour, shaders, and important supplies that may come in use down the line" The Ghost said happily.
"Fifth state of matter, huh?" The Guardian said curiously, "Well, lead the way to the ship then, seeing as my luck with getting 10 meters isn't great."
The Ghost giggled at his comment. He seemed damaged, but still had a sense of humour. He was going to be a great Hunter. She decrypted his engram and a slightly damaged, but still operational Hand Cannon appeared in his hand.
"Whoa. This is new" he said as he examined the weapon, "How many rounds?"
"That is an eight shot Hand Cannon. Not too bad for a common Engram." The Ghost said joyfully.
The Guardian nodded, holstering the Hand Cannon and turned to the opposite side of the building.
"Lead the way Ghost" He said, before pondering for a second, "You need a name."
"A name? Not many Guardians name their Ghosts" the Ghost said.
"Wrath. I like the sound of Wrath." He said, smiling at her.
"Thank you, Guardian. What should I call you? Do you remember your name?" Wrath asked.
"No, I don't. But I have an idea for a new name. Death." He said, a power in his voice as he said the name.
Wrath nodded. It was a good name. Especially with the fact that he killed an Archon within ten minutes of being alive.
"Very well Death. We need to go this way" She said, hovering the direction opposite to where he had tried to go.
With a sigh, Death began to follow her. He had no real idea as to who he was. Who was he in his past life? And what happened?
A/N: Hey everyone reading. This is my first FanFiction and for some reason decided to do a crossover between two of my favourite games. I hoped you all enjoy the story. My plan is update hopefully once a month, depending on my schedule. Please note, this is not going to have much if any (Mostly fluff stuff anyway), and there is going to be quite a bit of violence and maybe some gore as well. Feel free to tell me how you think I could improve, etc. I have some ideas down the line, where some readers may be able to include their OC in the story, I will let you know when.
