Prologue
Another day begins in this great city. Many people rush to get to their jobs, but despite everything we focus on an old building that does not stand out in this urban rush. Inside this building we were able to hear an alarm clock repeatedly. Inside a dark room we can see more than three alarms ringing frantically. Even though it is not so clear we can see under a large cover a figure that has just woken up.
-Mhhhh...
Bep! Bep! Bep!
-Huh?...
Standing up, the figure searches the small cupboard next to the bed where the alarm clocks were.
-Where? ... Where did I leave them?
Rubbing her eyes, then she gets up and starts looking for the object. But when she walks around the room, with a little difficulty seeing, a soft laugh is heard.
-Oh ... not again …
A sound of feet running softly, but there is no one else in her apartment. Except a little troublemaker.
-Chad! you know i don't like your jokes!
Whoever was laughing now seems to be holding his mouth with his hands, as it seemed that the laughter became muffled. The young woman turned and went to a small corridor that led to the kitchen, then she quickly went behind the refrigerator that was right next to the door. She was silent for a few moments until a small creature walks carefully on the floor. He looked into the kitchen looking for traces of the young woman. With a big jump, the young woman jumped from behind the fridge and tried to grab the little creature. But it failed because it missed the direction.
-Ahhh!!!
-I got you!
-There is! Good try Hellen!
-...
Young Hellen lay on the floor facing what must have been little Chad. Sighing, she sits down and holds out her hand with the same expression on her face, clearly saying that it was not the time for this.
The look seems to affect Chad who then seems to regret it and looks away.
-Well ... I just wanted to liven up the morning.
-You know this will never be fun for both sides Chad.
-Yeah ... But I have a good excuse, you'll be late!
-What!?
Hellen usually tries to tell the time, but at the same time she remembered.
- Lock my glasses, please.
-Right, right, I'll get them.
He quickly runs into the living room with ease, gets on a dresser and takes his glasses out from behind a picture frame. He looks at the photo and wrinkles his nose a little, but returns to focus and takes the glasses back to young Hellen. She picks them up and then gets up from the floor then runs to the bedroom to change.
-Another day at school …
-You're not going Chad!
-Awn ... but I hate it and you know it.
-And you should know that taking you anywhere in that city is risky. I don't want you to end up on a dissection tray.
-Damn it…
Hellen soon left the room already dressed, in ordinary clothes a white blouse, jacket and jeans. She was also tying her hair, which was always spiky and messy. In a hurry she goes to the kitchen, and picks up an apple that was in a fruit bowl on the small table. Now she goes towards the door to go out doing the last things, picking up her backpack and putting on her shoes.
-Hey Chad! There's blueberries and leftovers from yesterday in the fridge!
-Err ... Okay just remember that today has that thing!
-Bye Bye!!
The door is slammed shut, leaving little Chad looking at it expectantly.
-Well I'm going to play again, I have levels to pass.
We turned our attention to Hellen now she was walking quickly down the hall of the building where she lived. Taking several bites of the apple she arrived at the exit and ran outside to get to a bus stop first. She finally made it before he left, the big yellow vehicle full of young teenagers demonstrating that he would be unruffled. Entering she grabbed the backpack straps on her back, walking through the crowd where some of them gave her a strange look. Ignoring the looks, she walked to the end of the bus. When she found a place she sat by the window and then took the cell phone out of the backpack, putting on the little headphones she stood looking out of the window watching the silhouettes go by quickly to the music. But you must be wondering what that girl would be living with such a little creature. Well show how they met, several months ago Hellen was on a college tour.
Several hours of traveling on a full bus, "really fun", Hellen was only doing it because it was worth a good grade. Constantly avoiding two other teenagers who were staring at her from a distance, Hellen already knew that more could happen on this "excursion". The bus finally arrived at its destination, so everyone inside was getting ready to leave when a teacher stood right in front of them to give a reminder to the students.
-Everyone here is reminded, the tour will have in order to study the rural region and how agronomy is worked in these fields. Oh one more thing when entering and leaving a call will be made to ensure that no one is missing so stay tuned.
When she finally finished everyone was dying to leave, one by one a large group of young people was formed outside. Hellen went out with the others with a notebook in her hands ready to write down anything of importance. At the moment they were in a small town, she looked at the book and saw what was scheduled for chores on the tour. Sighing she turned a page and wrote items, the group started to move and soon started to make their way out of town. The group was now on a trail that claimed to lead to local farms, for a time only wildlife was visible. Many trees and the sound of leaves being crushed by the feet of the large group of young people, the minutes became hours the feet of Hellen already hurt and that of several other students who started acting dramatically. Rolling his eyes, Hellen tried to ignore it. But at the same time something caught his eye, there was a roof at the bottom even covered by so many trees. It was not a small house, because the structure should have been big to stand out in a place like this. Hellen was now very curious, but she would have trouble separating from the group. Well, she makes an excuse later, she carefully waited for the group to move forward and when she was the last of the line, she slowly walked away. After getting rid of the group she headed for the "big mysterious house". She hadn't realized she was being followed, the various sounds of wildlife filling the air. When she finally arrived at the "house", she can get a better look now. The house was really big and very old, the place was surrounded by a high wall, but Hellen was looking through a very rusty iron gate. Hellen was analyzing the house when she heard the leaves being stepped on, when she turned around were two teenagers who had previously been staring at her during the trip.
-Well, it seems that the four eyes are quite brave lately.
-You really surprised us Hellen.
These young people were Sebastian and Diane, every room has good and bad students and in their case it is obvious. They seemed willing to upset Hellen, now she would have to think of a quick fix.
-Being so far away from the group does not seem like a good idea for someone who claims to be so smart.
- Again with that you two, if we had all worked together this would not have happened.
-If we chose the nerd to join the group it was for you to do, Hellen!
What lack of participation can do, they didn't want to help with their homework, Hellen informed the teachers that they hadn't helped her. But now it is clear that this has made them very unhappy, how far do they intend to go with this silly revenge? Hellen showed no fear and straightened up, the two looked at each other and seemed to still think. Soon Diane started acting strange, her face showed innocence.
-Oh! You see, Hellen separated from the group and entered a restricted area.
-I think we should call someone Diane.
Hellen understood what these two were up to and prepared to run, only in a flash Sebastian held her by the arms and Diane took Hellen's bag. Diane spun the bag without any care, and with all her strength threw it into the walls of the big house.
-Oh no! There she goes, come on Sebastian we need to call the teacher!
-I'm right behind you Diane!
Sebastian threw Hellen on the floor and ran to accompany Diane, Hellen got up slowly and tried to get the dirt off his knees. She looked over to where Diane threw her backpack, sighing she had in mind if she went in there she would be doing what those two wanted. But she now had a plan, to get in her bag and go back to the bus all before anyone found her. She looked for any gap to enter, seeing that at the gate one of the bars was missing she squeezed herself through, being thin has its advantages sometimes. Finally inside she searched as fast as she could for the backpack.
-Where is it? It is no wonder that Diane has status in sports.
She walked until she saw that in the house now one of the several windows at the top was broken, biting her lips in disgust at knowing that now she would have to enter the big house. She went ahead to the wooden door and pulled hard on the handle, as she had thought, it was locked. Returning to the part that had windows, Hellen started looking for an open window and hopefully the second was. Entering slowly she can take a look it was dark only the windows gave light to the corridors, even though she knew there should be nothing more there.
Strangely everything seemed in order according to those who like "classic" things the feeling of the place was heavy. Reluctantly he swallowed and went on to find the backpack, walking the place with a squeak of wooden boards with each step he took. Going deeper into the house, the light started to get weaker and weaker the further it went, in her mind she had to find the stairs that led to the second floor. It was difficult to stay focused there, all sides that Hellen looked at had peculiar things. But what caught the most attention was when she arrived at a salon, there in the center of the wall surrounded by two huge staircases was a painting of an old woman with piercing eyes and cold as ice. In the painting the woman dressed as if she were royalty holding a crystal ball, Hellen felt a shiver to face the painting. Returning to reality she ran up wanting to avoid further distractions, she scanned the upstairs corridor and counted each room remembering which window it belonged to. And when she found the door she took a deep breath and opened it carefully, slowly but carefully trying to avoid a lot of movement when entering, she can see that this room seemed clear compared to the rest of the rooms. Taking a quick look, she saw her backpack in the center of the room with a few shards of glass around it, quickly she ran and grabbed the backpack and placed it on her back. She was getting ready to leave when she heard something running in the room, freezing in the same instant she turned and walked closer to the wall. She looked at each corner feeling her heart beat faster and her blood run cold, she saw a big bed, bookcase, closet, table, chandelier and a strange plant. Everything looked normal, but everything looked clean, it wasn't old or dusty, like a lightning bolt passed through his mind, someone lived in that room. Now she could hear her own heartbeat, listening for anything, and suddenly the books on the shelf flew towards her. Dodging the thrown objects Hellen ran for the door, but prevented from escaping when the door slammed. Alarmed by the situation, she ran to the window taking anything to defend herself, that plant seemed like a good distraction. But when she took the plant, the inanimate objects stopped suddenly, suspecting the situation she was preparing to throw the vase at that "someone". A voice began to sound softly, Hellen struggled to hear.
-Leave ... the plant where it was ...
-What?
-Let the plant where it was! …
Analyzing the situation again, a hypothesis came to mind. She had few options, it was that or nothing.
-Why should I listen to you?
-Leave the plant exactly where it was! -Sorry me but is this plant so relevant? -...
-I'm tired of playing games for today, you better stop it, otherwise I'll end this plant!
-NO!!
-I hope a better answer than that.
Hellen could hear a frantic rush from inside the walls along with nervous murmurs, she straightened up and waited patiently.
-Well Miss I… I didn't mean to hurt you, I just… I don't want humans here and leave the flower alone.
-Where are you? I want a decent conversation.
-Just don't freak out humans always do that when they know me, hehe ...
Searching for where the voice had come from, Hellen's eyes reached a small gray humanoid creature, with spiky hair and black as coal. Hellen slowly knelt down to try to get a closer look. When she was right in front of the creature, Hellen's eyes were wide, she was silent. The little creature seemed to be getting uncomfortable with the situation.
-Who? ... What are you?
-I ... I'm not very good at explaining, but I'm one of the creations of the lady who owns this house.
-How?
-It's complicated I know, but please leave the plant alone, it is very important.
Slowly Hellen carefully placed the plant in its original place, as he did not want to cause more torment. Turning to the creature, Hellen sat next to him, now her curiosity was at its maximum.
-How can such a thing exist? Tell me please?
-I…. Do not know…. You know it's basically magic what I'm talking about.
-Magic is the term for unknown science.
- Believe it or not, I say what I think.
-Does the housewife still live here?
-It's been a long time since I last saw her, but I don't mind never seeing that grimace again.
-I…
The moment Hellen was about to speak, a metallic creak came from outside. Running to the window, it was possible to see a police officer and the teacher being followed by the pair who tormented Hellen earlier. Looking everywhere for an escape route, Hellen looked at the little creature.
-I need to get out of here!
-What?
-Please, I have to get out of here!
The creature ran to the window, jumping and climbing easily.
-Oh no! The guards are at the door!
He ran to the head of the bed and started fiddling with a small old chandelier, when he took the chandelier out of place crackling noises started. Something started to move, the bookcase now moving, opening a passage of stairs.
-A secret passage?
-What did you expect in a big old and mysterious house?
Rolling his eyes at that comment, Hellen started walking towards the passage. But it was for the moment when the creature jumped in front of its legs, getting close to the edge of the passage.
-Wait!
-Hmm?
-I go ahead, there are some traps that I set some time ago, in fact there are in the whole house.
-What? Don't tell me that all this time something could have happened!
-One thing you said right, it could have happened. But it looks like you're pretty lucky.
-I wouldn't call it luck ...
-Hey can you bring that flower pot?
-But you didn't say that-
-Forget!... I ... prefer to keep my eyes on this thing.
Taking the vase carefully, Hellen followed the little creature through the passage that now appeared to be connected to an underground tunnel. Accompanying the little creature, details started to run through Hellen's mind questions like how long does he live here, what was his goal and he was alone? She was feeling foreign to this, what was this empathy for? Looking at him once more, the creature realized this and searched the surroundings for something to distract himself.
-Hey girl, what brings you here? I mean why did you come here?
-It's not a cool thing to tell.
-...
-This flower, why is it so important to you?
The creature seemed to be in conflict to speak, but took a big breath and looked at Hellen.
-This flower is ... the only thing that can keep me alive.
-What? Is this really true?
-I wish it wasn't …
-Well… how exactly does this happen?
-You ask a lot of questions, but ... when the lady of the house raised me, something went wrong. The petals of this blue flower have something that allows me to live. I was supposed to be different.
-...
Now the creature looked at the ground, seeming to be deep in thought, the silence that was now interrupted by clicks. Looking around, Hellen looked for the source. But his attention turned to the creature who now seemed to be holding a laugh. Raising an eyebrow, Hellen questioned the sudden change of mood.
-Hehehe...
- Was it a trap?
-Yep, those people are not lucky, and by the sound it seems that they activated the ink catapult.
Hellen tried not to laugh, but ended up giving in. Chuckling, but she quickly covered her mouth.
-Hey! You can smile, who knew.
-I'm sorry, I usually have more control.
-He! In case you want to know, I'm taking you back to the city.
-Well... thank you?
Having an idea in mind, she looked at him and asked something that she wouldn't have thought would take them both that far.
-My name is Hellen Edwards, what's your name, little guy?
-I ... I'm Chad.
-Chad?
-Yes?
-How much do you know this region?
-Hmm?
A while has passed now Hellen was sitting on a bench beside the bus writing in a notebook when the rest of the group returned. Being able to see right in front of the teacher and the police guard covered in blue and green paint being followed by the pair of troublemakers who were also stained with paint. Hellen took a deep breath to get control not to laugh, otherwise they would have suspected that she had something to do with it. She got up with the notebook in hand, and walked over to the teacher.
- Professor Evans, what happened?
-Well Miss Edwards! Your little friends said that you broke up from the group and entered a restricted area and-
-Ah! I ended up forgetting my notebook on the bus and went back to get it. But I ended up a little lost in the woods, only that I finally found my way and until now the work you asked for was finishing.
-Well… Hellen, always early isn't it? Diane and Sebastian! You two better have an explanation for this because I'm calling your parents!
The pair looked at each other looking like they wanted to run and from there, Sebastian muttered bad words and Diane continued to try to convince the teacher. Hellen only knew that now she was even with the pair of troublemakers, only that she did not suspect that the new and unusual friend decided to accompany her back to the big city. That's how this friendship between human and probably magical creature started, now after
living together for so many months discovering more the true identity of each, Hellen decided to help Chad find a way so that he no longer needed the flower. She researched everything
she could, but little was found getting back to the old house and combing through the various books that were accumulating dust.
Until finally she found something, just traces, but still hope for Chad. They waited patiently, for the right moment, now a journey awaited them to a place that a modern-age teenager would ignore in history class.
-Hellen… are you sure about that?
-Don't worry Chad, I'm prepared for that.
-If you say.
