I cannot remember how I died. I cannot tell you how it was that I ended up so deep in the cosmodrome that when you found me all I was, then, was a distant nameless memory. All I can really remember was a general time and from what I can remember, I can try and find my purpose.
You woke me, Ghost.
Do you remember it?
The day we met…
"Guardian? Eyes up, Guardian."
Chapter 0: A story must start somewhere...
The sound of distant beeping and flashes of light caught her eye as she slowly stirred awake. "It's already 11 am, Guardian. Are you going to get up?" The sound of her tiny ally's voice herald the day. '11 huh?' She groaned in thought as she pushed her aching body from the warmth of her barrack's sheets. The cold steel floor beneath her feet was enough to wake her for the time being. She would need a shower and possibly a meal.
"You have a few new messages from the vanguard! Shall I read them to you?" Ghost called as he hovered behind her into the bathroom. "No."
"One's marked urgent from Zavala-!"
"I said no, Ghost."
He dissipated from view - possibly just to merge with her body or Spirit or however it worked. He was literally part of her DNA now. She couldn't escape his nagging even then. "I know you are taking some down time, but radio silence with the vanguard probably isn't a good idea," Ghost's voice rang out in her mind as she climbed into the hot water. With how much time they had spent together, she was already able to tune him out well enough. She raked her fingers through her purple stained hair. It was a mess - most combat ready guardians rarely looked good out of armor. Except the Awoken. They looked good all the time.
It had been several months since she and her fire team had slain Oryx. However, his Dreadnaut still hovered over Saturn - bringing more questions and chaos than a normal ship should. She had worked privately with Cayde-6; the Hunter vanguard. His wit and ease with approach seemed to fit her personality well enough but she knew he had eyes for a warlock. Not to mention that warlock was her friend all the same.
She smiled a bit to herself amused by her own train of thought in the morning. "But seriously," Ghost's voice caught her off guard from her daydream, "Marked urgent?"
"Fine Ghost! Jeez. You don't need to be an old lady about it." Aliza grumbled in defeat. She had no patience for his nagging. The message played aloud in her mind:
Guardian. It has been too long since you last checked in - we need your help in assessing the darkness from the Dreadnaught. Report in as soon as you possibly can. We cannot afford any more time away from the matter. It is of the utmost importance.
The message ended there. As did Aliza's interest. However she knew she served the Vanguard and she noticed a few extremely worried messages from the New Monarchy head, Hideo as well. She bit her lip in thought of it; she hated making him worry more than anyone. "Ghost. Suit up. We're headed to the tower."
"Finally!" Ghost exclaimed. In a scanning flash of light, Aliza's armor was built upon her body. Her steel colored chest piece along with the other pieces that followed. Her most prized possession, however, was the gun on her hip. The Hawkmoon. It's lovely silver barrel etched with it's spiral like designs. It was a beautiful piece; deceptively so. No one knew exactly how much power this tiny package held and in the right hands it wasn't hard to figure out why it was named after a bird of prey.
The final piece to her armor structure, hung from her right hip and belt all the way to her midcalf, was her Sunbreaker Titan mark. She smiled a bit beneath her helmet at it's reflection in the body length mirror of her barracks. She never felt more accomplished as she did the day she pulled the Hammer of Sol from the Forge. "Let's go," She spoke as she and her ghost departed heading for her Awoken airship. She had also earned it while hunting the wolves for the Awoken Queen, Mara Sov.
The name made her chest tighten and her head lower in respect. Mara Sov, Queen of the Reef and her brother Uldren Sov had reportedly been K.I.A with the battle against the Taken King. It baffled many that she had so willingly gone up against a foe she knew she could not win against. The Queen was prideful but she was not an idiot...or so most of her people had believed. Why pit herself and her army against a foe that could so easily over take her? Aliza never understood it but she did respect the queen for it.
The hum of the engine caught her attention now as Ghost spoke, "plotting a course for The Tower. I also took the liberty of informing Zavala that we were on our way."
"Gee, thanks."
"You're welcome."
Aliza wished to be able to smack her little companion around a bit but he had already vanished before she could manifest the idea into being.
Message from the author;
I do not own Bungie's and Acitivisions' baby. In any way. I am simply enjoying writing - when I can - parts of it. This is an AU. Not cannon in the least! Thank you so much for reading!
