2000 Miles

It was Christmas Day, 1991. Danny Tanner was leaving work after hosting a festive edition of Wake Up, San Fransisco!. He got into his car and drove off, in the direction of his house in San Francisco.
Danny had lost his wife, Pamela, four years earlier, to the bumper of a drunk driver. Even though Pamela's brother Jesse and Danny's best friend Joey had moved in to help Danny raise his three daughters, D.J. (now 14), Stephanie (now 9) and Michelle (now 5), he still missed his wife badly. It was unusually dull in the car as he drove home. In a move he didn't expect himself to make, he turned the radio on. Immediately, the slow jingles of a song in G-sharp major rang in, followed by Chrissie Hynde's sultry voice.
"He's gone 2000 miles It's very far"
This was strangely comforting. Although it was a woman singing for her man, Danny felt as though it was he in that song. He continued to listen.
"The snow is falling down Gets colder day by day I miss you"
And it certainly was. Danny could just about manouvre the car in the thick white foam that covered the road. And no matter how much he turned the heater up, the chill always seemed to find a way in.
"The children are singing He'll be back at Christmastime"
In spite of the loss of their mother, Danny's three girls seemed to have moved on from the pain, though they missed their mum as much as anyone else did. Danny had always convinced them that their mother was watching over them in Heaven.
"In these frozen and silent nights, sometimes in a dream You appear Outside under the purple sky, diamonds in the snow sparkle"
This was getting to be a little creepy, the similarity between Danny and Pam. Danny sometimes encountered his wife in his dreams.
"Our hearts were singing It felt like Christmastime"
It was always like Christmas with Pam around - no matter if it was December, or March, or July, her infectious laugh and her winning smile lit up even the darkest of caves.
"2000 miles is very far into the snow I'll think of you wherever you go"
Chrissie held the last word for a bit longer than Danny had anticipated. He continued to drive as Chrissie entered the original chorus once more. Eventually the song reached its end.
"Our hearts were singing It must be Christmastime"
"Of course it is, Pam," said Danny to his wife from below the heavens. "I just wish you were here with us tonight."
