I haven't wrote for a bit due to depression and the worsening of my asthma, and the fear of this pandemic. I've come to the conclusion this is most unfair to anyone who likes my stories so have returned to try to grasp my passion, the passion I have always had for writing even if my stories have never been as good as others, and while I will be multitasking between this and my Pokemon fic I will endeavor the one this I have had difficulty on this site, I will actually try to finish what I have begun.
This will not be a full fledged story, just a series of one chapter shorts based on what if's that occurred to me as I read this series, my favorite series from when I was a teenager, the storied that inspired me and kept me hopeful during my loneliest nights growing up. The Earth's Children series.
Without further ado and much anticipation, also lack of ownership on my part I present you...
"What if Ayla...?"
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
Curse her Goove, I want her cursed with death now the new leader gestured in anger. Right now Goove.
The new Mogur hesitated unsure of what to do, surprised more at Broud's anger then Ayla's outburst.
Brun was angry, livid actually but he was leader no more.
Creb could not bear to watch anymore and turned toward the cave, yet a movement from the corner of his one good eye made him hesitate, then fully turn back and stare in open mouthed horror, almost unable to believe what his one good eye told him was the truth.
Goove too appeared shocked at what Broud and most of the Clan had yet to notice.
A cave lion was slinking towards the new leader, no the lioness he corrected himself. Yet it was not just the appearance of the large feline that chilled him to the bone, no, it was more the creature had an ethereal quality to her, unreal, and almost undefined.
Creb on occasion had felt the spirits of the great Totem's that guided and protected the Clan from the everyday harmful spirits, and the malevolent ones that caused death and disease. This was the first occurrence he, or any Mogur he could recall ever seeing one outside of meditation.
Broud turned as the rest of the Clan begin distancing themselves from him, children were held close, most stifled cries of fear, a lot did not and cried out in open mouthed horror. He slowly begin to back away even as he gestured to Goove, his Mogur. Goove, calm the spirits, send them back to the world of spirits...Goove...GOOVE!
Goove cast a glance at The Mogur and only shook his head, his was only the ability to interrupt the will of the spirits, not to control them. The will of the spirits had always been their own, and he could no more control them then he grow another leg, nor change his own gender.
No, Goove thought. Broud had brought this upon himself, allowing a woman to drive him to such rage and petty revenge. The protective spirits of the Clan were upset, and more. It had been obvious from the start, back when Brun's Clan had found the injured and strange girl of the other's, they favored her and now made their displeasure known.
The she lion released a roar so great, the very cave they called home seemed to tremble...was in fact shaking as the very earth shook in convulsion. A saga antelope appeared next, then a wolf, roe deer, rabbit, owl, boar and several other's before Broud's own appeared behind them, releasing a roar of his own.
Broud had slumped to his knees as most of the Clan retreated from him, gathered around their Mogur and The Mogur, now Creb only in an attempt to seek protection from those who knew and spoke frequently the the spirit world. The Clan did not notice when they turned their attention from Broud, in their own eyes stopped seeing the new leader, not unlike a death curse.
Only Creb, Brun, Goove and Ayla now watched as Broud cowered before the angry totemic spirits.
Broud's fear of the unknown was soon replaced by anger as Spirit of Fox dashed his way, mouth open in a snarl of displeasure. He reached for his spear and shakily stood as the Protective spirits surrounded him in a U shape, only leaving his back free from their vicious onslaught. Striking out at the spirit, and much to his immediate dismay the weapon only passed through the fox, doing no damage.
No one during all of this noticed Goove vanish, even as the large tremors in the earth calmed, but everyone noticed as he returned.
Broud glanced back and made a pleading motion and Goove announced to the rest of the clan the reason for his absence. It is done Broud. The spirits have shown their desires, you...not Ayla are cursed, cursed with death. It was the most defiant act Goove had done, and with his motions there was a note of finality.
It was only then Broud felt a sense of dread creep into his heart, followed by the heavy breathing of the bear's breath tickling the back of his neck and turned, turned to see the largest Cave Bear he had ever set his eyes upon. Not even the cave bear at the bear festival came close to this creature in size...This was Ursus.
Walk with Ursus Broud, Brun gestured as the large beast swung a mighty paw and Broud only experienced the briefest moment of pain, before nothing, and he would experience nothing again. The spirits all vanished from sight as the mighty Ursus took Broud's body and both vanished from sight as well.
