The cave was big, that was all twelve year old Izuku Midoriya thought as he regained his footing. He had fell down here when Katsuki had left him behind in favour of furthering his exploration campaign of the forest. The child had tried to follow but had somehow fell down a hole in the ground. Was this perhaps an unexplored cage system? Izuku couldn't help but smile in excitement as he realised where he was. Maybe he could find something cool! That would show Katsuki that he was a 'deku'!
Izuku eagerly wandered and discovered that it was way bigger than he imagined. The deeper he went, the bigger the cage system became. He didn't know how long he had been in the cage, but he could deduce that it hadn't been very long. His emerald eyes adjusted to the darkness within the cave. The walls were made out of rock, the floor was smooth, as if it had been paved.
"Are you here for the Thorn?" The voice was smooth but yet held a boyish tone. The sentence echoed across the cave, entering his ears several times. Straining his eyes, Izuku was able to make out a silhouette. It was if average height and seemed to wear some sort of cloak, but the silhouette held a calm aura. The aura was so thick that the child believed that he could see a physical form.
"I don't know what this 'thorn' is? I'm just exploring," the silhouette chuckle, it's laughter echoed once more across the caves rocky walls. He sounded amused, as if finding his obliviousness funny. "Sorry, it's just that your obliviousness is amusing." Izuku nodded is head in understanding, used to being mocked "But that oblivious is not a bad thing, I was once oblivious too, you know."
"Really?" Izuku looked hopeful, as if pleased that the silhouette was complimenting him. The figure nodded in an easygoing way "Of course, I made many a friend by being oblivious." Izuku smiled, conversing with someone who wasn't his mother in a positive way was refreshing. Even if said person was lived in a cave. "Anyways, back to my original question... do you want the Thorn?" Izuku was generally confused about what this 'thorn' could be. Was it a roses thorn?
"Judging from your clueless expression, the Thorn is the remnants of Enryu's powers."
"Who was Enryu?"
"I knew you were going to ask that," the silhouette mumbled "Enryu was a god among men... he was able to control shinsoo directly without effort, teleport anywhere and increase his overall power."
"What is shinsoo?" Izuku had no clue what the silhouette was saying, but eh was gradually gaining an understanding of the thorn. Although, that in itself was hard to understand. "Shinsoo is all around us, allowing us to breath and live. It can be transformed into any element, even light and and can harnessed through a baang." As he spoke, the figure opened his palm, a small ball of blue energy had formed just a few centimetres above a his skin and changed into into a ball of fire. Before the child could ask what it was, the silhouette continued with his explanation.
"This is a single baang of shinsoo that can be used for attacks. Right now, I'm adding as little power I can."
"So, can I use that?"
"Of course, but you still haven't answer my question... do you want the Thorn?" Izuku looked at the silhouette with a bit of shock. This figure was asking if he wanted to have the remnants of Enryu's power. A so-called power of a 'god among men' With the Thorn, he could become a hero. He could save people! His throat was dry, the nerves bouncing in his stomach like butterflies but the child nodded. "I'll give you the Thorn, but answer my last question... why do you want it?" Izuku wastes no time, his face converted with an unusual seriousness for someone his age.
"I-I want to be a hero that inspires hope to those who are suffering... like All-Might."
"All-Might? Never heard of him before, but I haven't left this cave for over a thousand years, so that's understandable." The silhouette mumbled under his breath, his concerns unknown to Izuku "Well, I guess you have passed my test. The Thron is yours," with a single click of his fingers, the silhouette disappeared. It was surprising, to be alone once more, but yet, he could feel something beyond where the silhouette stood.
He wandered once more, drawn by the feeling. The fast cave ended and a small crack resided the rocky wall. Without wasting time, Izuku squeezed through, the walls of the crack surprising smooth, like the floor beforehand. He sidestepped through the crack for a while, before he felt a soft breeze touch his skin. He sidestepped faster, eventually he squeezed out of the crack and found himself before a large spike. It was massive, about the size of an metre ruler and was blood red, a small blue ring surrounding it like a halo. Even if he was young, the child could conclude that this object was the Thorn. This was the object that held Enryu's powers that made him a god among men. This would allow him to hero.
Izuku walked towards it hesitantly, as if the object would blow him away. However, when he was within arms reach, the child realised that it seemed to call for, as if wanting him to touch it. He didn't refute it, as his child-like hand touched the surface of the Thorn. He felt his heart lick uo speed and a flow of energy coarse through him.
Then his vision went black.
When Izuku woke up, it was in a hospital bed. The doona covered his body, his hand encased in his mother's own cubby fingers. He was connected to an IV drip, the liquid entered his body via a plat is to be embedded in his wrist, where his vein was. The child hadn't visited the hospital much, the last time he did was to treat the burn marks on his arms. His emerald eyes looked to the ceiling, where the Thorn floated above him, out of reach to anyone else.
"It hadn't been a dream," Izuku muttered in absolute awe, a small smile on his face. The Thorn seemed to glow more to his sentence. The child remembered the silhouette's baang, the small ball of shinsoo that was the minimum of the figures power. He did say that he could achieve that feet too. So Izuku pulled out his palm, trying to will some sort of energy to it. He pulled very fibre of his concentration into the effort.
A minute passed and nothing happened. He kept trying, his eyes almost burning holes into his palm. Five minutes passed before an incredibly small ball of shinsoo appeared. It was as big as a eraser, which was smaller than what the silhouette had showed, but yet, Izuku smiled. The shinsoo felt cool, as if it was a light autumn breeze. He willed it away (though that too was slow going) and the baang of shinsoo dispersed back into the atmosphere.
"Now let's try this with the Thorn," he mumbled in curiosity, ready to experiment with the gift he received from the silhouette. The Thorn's edges begun to move, as if a fire was trapped on the outskirts of an object. The small halo became much wider and multiplied by two, he willed shinsoo into his palm once more. The blue ball was much bigger, about twice the size of the silhouettes, even if the figure was using the minimum of his power.
"Now to change it," albeit, that was a bit harder. He had almost no experience with utilising shinsoo, but he willed it to become a ball of flames. His eyes never left the baang and within minutes, the shinsoo became alit with flames. He couldn't help but let out a full blown smile. Despite what his childhood friend says, with the Thorn by his side, he can become a hero.
