Hey. So I had an account on this a few years ago that was really popular in the world of stars wars fanfic and stuff. Now I find myself with a new account just so I can get a fresh start and focus on some other topics. This isn't my best work, but I'm just getting back into writing after a very long and much needed hiatus. The Land of Stories is absolutely one of my favorite book series, so I decided to try give this a try. Hope you enjoy this, kind of a one-shot but it could be continued. I was trying to leave it more in the air so I could continue if people liked it. I'm also not sure what age group this community lies in, so maybe just as a warning towards younger readers, there is death involved. Comment if you think I should continue this. Thanks guys and enjoy.

Conner groaned as he flipped himself onto his back and landed on the cold floor of the fairy kingdom castle. His entire body ached, but more specifically his head. He had hit the ground and he had hit the ground hard. Stars had even begun forming on the outside of his vision. What had caused this? Why did he feel so terrible?

The last thing he could remember was his sister standing above him, protecting him from something. She killed it, he thought, Alex killed the monster. He didn't even know what he was talking about. What monster? He raised his head to his temple but felt a sticky liquid cover his palm. It was blood. His hand was covered in blood from his head.

"Well, that explains that." His wound seemed mostly external but he was certain he had a concussion. The stars around his eyes had left and for the most part his vision had returned to normal. Connor propped himself up on his elbows, just to get a better look around. For the most part, the actual castle looked intact. Of course there were chairs thrown on the ground and tree branches everywhere, but he didn't see unfixable damage.

Connor forced himself to stand and gather his bearings. Of course he was a little dizzy at first, but he quickly regained his balance. His mind was still a little foggy and the blood from his cuts were dripping more down his face, but it was nothing that some of Hagetta's fire and Alex's corny jokes couldn't fix. Alex! Panic immediately spread across his face, he needed to find his sister. Even though he couldn't remember exactly what was wrong, he knew something was wrong. He limped around the giant foyer of the fairy castle and searched everywhere for a trace of her.

The more he looked though, the more he remembered. The attack from the beast came as a surprise to the twins. It was a humongous bear sent by the witches who were attempting to kill Alex once and for all. Conner remembers hearing the bear growl at them and then placing himself between the bear and his sister. He was just trying to protect her. The bear immediately grew angry at that, slashing Conner's face and leaving him on the floor. That explained his side of the story, but what about Alex? She ran away for help and led the beast away. He remembered that much. She tried to use magic against him but he was too strong. Alex knew that this was not something she could handle on her own and she couldn't let him get another swing at her brother.

The witches. They had to be from the leftover witches. The deadliness of the situation kept growing, and with that, so did Conner's fear.

It was when Conner started climbing the giant stairs to the hallway of the castle that he started noticing the blood. The drops were barely noticeable at first, just bright red flecks left on the stairs. But then they started to grow larger and larger. That was when Conner heard the whimpering.

He saw the bear first, ripped apart and clearly singed. Then he saw Alex and his heart immediately sank. Two other fairies sat by her side, one trying to calm her down and the other clearly trying to heal her.

"Alex!" Her brother called, rushing to her side. She tried to turn over, but she couldn't. Conner slid next to her and gently lifted herself to him, Conner getting a view of her wounds for the first time. The bear had deeply wounded her and had left her deeply cut across her abdomen. He looked to the fairies across from him, but they just shook their heads.

"Go get help, now!" He ordered them to fly and get anyone or anything that could fix this. Alex was gasping for air and holding on tightly to her wounds, but that wasn't going to change anything. He was not giving up on her. Conner grabbed onto her hand and held it tightly.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. You're okay." He tried terribly to comfort her but it wasn't working. She looked at him, pleading for him to help.

"Conner, I'm not gonna mak-"

"Stop, stop. You're gonna be okay."

"No, I'm not."

"Alex, please, don't say that. Try and hang on. I need you to hang on." He was crying now, harder than any other time in his life.

"It was always meant to be this way. We were always meant to be seperated." She was crying too, but much lighter than him. Deep down she wasn't afraid. Alex was just happy it was her and not him. Conner ignored her words and held on tighter to her.

Suddenly her eyes started to roll towards the back of her head. Conner gently tried patting her face to pull her back to reality. Alex looked at him, really looked at him and only whispered three words.

"I love you." Her words slipped out of her mouth and her hand fell limp in his. Alex's eyes remained fixated past Conner. Conner felt something in his chest that he had only felt once before. When he lost his father. His head hung lower and he placed his head on her shoulder, just crying.

"Alex please. Please don't do this." He was begging her, begging God, his grandmother, anyone that would listen. But she didn't wake up.

For a moment it was just them. Before the fairy council arrived and practically pulled her body out of his arms to try and use magic to revive her, it was just them. Two people whose destinys had been practically intertwined since birth. It terrified him, the thought that he would have to go through the rest of his life without her, but he couldn't change the past.

They would never get their fairytale ending after all.
