The Girl Who Wasn't Rin
Chapter 1
Who Am I Now?
Summary: She apparently didn't need a heart to survive, but despite that she found she had feelings and butterflies in her chest. Somehow, she was in Nohara Rin's body and functioning as a relatively competent zombie Jinchuuriki. She definitely wasn't Rin anymore, but Not-Rin knew she wanted to change things.
If you had asked Rin several days ago, where she would be in the future, she would have blushed and stammered, murmured something about love, but clearly stated she would be a wonderful medic nin. Rin wasn't very strong, although she was talented in medical ninjutsu, but she made up for her downsides with her lovely personality.
Personality didn't really help when you were kidnapped by several Mist nin and made into a ticking Jinchuuriki bomb.
She was loyal to her village beyond everything. She loved her village, she loved her friends, her family, her team. So she thrust herself onto the jutsu of her friend. And she died, having aimed for his arm to go straight through her heart.
Yet some time later, Nohara Rin opened her eyes. But she wasn't quite Nohara Rin anymore.
.
Not-Rin was rather befuddled. She was a little fuzzy on how she got here-and where was here? But Not-Rin was a champ and took it like one. She trooped on through the woods, frowning at the unfamiliar clothes she was wearing. She wasn't sure why her hair was suddenly so short either, and had she always been this pale? But that wasn't really too concerning, she was a little more concerned as she remembered how she got here.
Two memories were clashing. She could remember a crash, an explosion of sorts. But she could also remember... turtle Godzilla? Turtle Godzilla.
"What is a Go-ji-ra?"
Not-Rin stopped, blinking and looking around the woods. Someone had spoke to her, but there wasn't anyone around. Rather, not anyone she could see.
"I'm not out there. I'm sealed inside your body."
Oh. Well, that certainly cleared things up, Not-Rin thought.
NOT!
"You have some very interesting memories for a human, here. I've been sorting through them, and they made me decide to speak with you."
Not-Rin scowled at the shadows in the trees that vaguely looked human. Was she losing her mind? She had to be. What, was she going to have to find something-was it a volleyball? She couldn't remember-to start calling Wilson?
"Wa-ru-so-n? Hm, a friend of this Gojira, then? No matter, human, I will introduce myself to clear up your confusion. I am, as you humans refer to us, the Three Tails of the tailed beasts."
Not-Rin blinked. So like, Naruto?
"I do not know this 'Naruto' but that name is more familiar than Waruson and Gojira."
Not-Rin hummed, "Weird." And it sure was weird when Japanese naturally came out. Come to think of it, it was incredibly odd that she was understanding the distinct Japanese voice in her head. She didn't speak Japanese.
"Fascinating. So the language in your memories is a real language, and not just gibberish?"
Okay, Not-Rin decided, suppose she did understand Japanese now. How had this happened?
And before the voice had a chance to say anything, there was a pain in the back of Not-Rin's head as she recalled some soft of crash again, followed by an explosion. The ghosts of pain could be felt against her clammy skin. And as that memory faded away, she could recall a moment she had watched from Naruto, except in real life, from an unfortunate perspective-then there was the Naruto perspective. A brunette girl, her friend killing her-and a boy going wild-
Obito!
Rin's heart tried to beat, and Not-Rin blinked at the sensation. Her body knew what to do as it summoned a green energy to it-chakra, Not-Rin fuzzily knew, wheeling at the sensation as her body's muscle memory took charge-and she brought her hand to her chest. She could feel inside her body, sense and see it almost, and that was how Not-Rin knew the heart in this body wasn't beating. Probably because this body didn't have a heart.
The hole in her chest probably should have hurt, but Not-Rin kind of pressed her hand to it in fascination.
"From watching your memories I've come to a conclusion."
And what conclusion is that, Not-Rin wondered.
"I believe that you are currently a mash up of two souls in a body that should be dead."
Not a very logical conclusion, thought Not-Rin. The voice pulled forward his evidence, the two memories of dying and the memory of watching the scene on the television. Not-Rin hummed, and aloud remarked, "So maybe, just maybe, you have a point."
Not-Rin could remember most of her life. But as she tried to recall things from Rins life, things were fuzzy. She knew a lot from watching the Naruto anime, and her new voice in her head was rather good at pulling specific memories for her to remember in far more vivid detail than she had ever recalled a memory in her life.
Or past life, Not-Rin supposed.
Okay, Not-Rin could accept this. She had read fanfiction after all, so this was something she could totally wrap her mind around if you gave her some time.
"What is fann-fiku-chin?"
Not-Rin supposed she and her new voice-Isobu, that was his name right-had a lot of talking to do.
"Indeed." Isobu agreed.
Not-Rin thought, I much rather liked Turtle Gojira better though.
.
Between Not-Rin, Rin's memories, and Isobu, they were a relatively solid unit of a zombie.
"Such a ridiculous phrase." Isobu remarked, sounding more amused than anything.
Not-Rin huffed, 'I'm more surprised you're okay being stuck inside this train wreck.'
"I evaluated my options. I've met many terrible and boring humans, but you seem like you'll be an interesting container for now."
'I do suppose you've never met a reincarnated zombie before.' Not-Rin allowed.
"Should I decide to leave, the seal on you is rather weak and broken. I recommend learning fuinjutsu to touch it up before it causes us both to explode."
Bah, Not-Rin was a little salty as a Rin memory popped up, how come Rin had turned down her sensei when he offered to teach all his students his specialty? Then Not-Rin could have at least cheated.
"We have already decided our best course of action is returning to Konohagakure. There you can learn from that man, as you are his student."
'I still think getting into Konohagakure is going to be more than we expect. I mean, they're gonna take issue with you, and they're also going to take issue with my body technically being dead, and they'll also likely notice Rin isn't exactly Rin in personality anymore.'
Isobu was definitely satisfied as he said, "Between the two of us, Konoha won't stand a chance."
.
Konoha didn't stand a chance. But not against Not-Rin or Isobu. Not-Rin had the blessing of running into plot-worthy convenience. That being, Namikaze Minato showed up in a yellow flash. And Konoha didn't stand a chance against Namikaze Minato discovering his female student wasn't dead-kind of, anyway.
Not-Rin shrieked when suddenly there was a man and Isobu reacted with a hot flash of his own chakra. Not-Rin was rather glad she couldn't feel the searing red hot orange chakra that oozed over her arms and burned her skin off. Oh shit, was her skin going to regrow? She was dead!
"R-Rin?" a somewhat familiar voice asked.
Not-Rin squinted through the orange chakra, and she replied, "Minato...sensei?"
With a kind of relief in his voice that Not-Rin had never quite heard before, Minato said, "Rin, is that really you?"
Isobu pulled back his chakra and Not-Rin felt some of her skin start to piece back. She had stuffed some cloth into the hole in her chest to make it look less inconspicuous, but she was rather covered in blood. She kind of wanted to know what she looked like.
"Kind of." Not-Rin answered rather truthfully, "Things are... a little wrong and fuzzy."
"An understatement."
'Shut up, Turtle Gojira.'
Minato eyed her apprehensively. But Not-Rin figured everything should be in order. Well, except for the zombie part. Not-Rin was still trying to figure out how to explain that.
"It is you." Minato said after a moment, and Not-Rin was wondering how he came to that conclusion when all of a sudden he was hugging her.
"He likely sensed your chakra."
'Fascinating.'
Minato was speaking and Not-Rin tuned in only at the important part, "-and we'll have to get you back to Konoha so the hospital can take a look at you. You don't look so good-"
'I look fine.'
At least Not-Rin thought so.
"You absolutely do not look fine in human standards."
Once again, Not-Rin found herself snarking back.
'Shut up Turtle Gojira.'
.
Minato discovered the hole in her chest as soon as he went to pick her up. Not-Rin thought that she had never seen someone's jaw drop so far before, but then she was uncomfortable when Minato was suddenly hands in her chest hole.
"Sensei," Not-Rin began as she felt him man handle her empty chasm, "I wasn't joking when I said things are a little wrong."
"A little wrong." Minato repeated, a beginning of a hysterical note in his voice.
"Now I know that the hole is a bit conspicuous but once I get a new shirt I'm sure we can hide it." Not-Rin assured Minato, in a very not actually soothing manner. In fact, Not-Rin sounded more amused than anything.
"Rin, your heart is gone." Minato said, definitely hysterical, "I can see right through your chest out your back!"
Not-Rin nodded, "Yes it definitely is. But don't worry, apparently I don't need it anyway."
Not-Rin wondered if Minato was going to faint. Because considering this man was supposed to be an absolute legend, if he fainted, Not-Rin thought that would be ridiculous. And hysterical. She kind of hoped he fainted.
"His chakra is stable. He's just shocked."
'I mean, it's not like I blame him.'
Not-Rin smiled when Minato removed his hand, but she certainly wasn't smiling when he knocked her out. Or tried to. Not-Rin, in her new zombie body, didn't really need sleep. She supposed that it was some weird reaction that she promptly pretended to be knocked out. Not-Rin thought it was dramatic of her body. But while Not-Rin didn't really need sleep, she quickly found out that the act of sleeping, or pretending to sleep, or meditating, whichever Not-Rin was going for, brought her somewhere strange.
Her mind was an ocean, oddly enough. And Isobu was a giant, ugly, kaiju.
"Not that I care, but do not refer to me in a negative way."
'Your tails look unnatural. Wow. I hate how muscly you are where there isn't shell. Your face looks pretty badass though. Oh, don't frown at me like that.'
"I've met few humans, but I think there's something wrong with you."
'Not something wrong. Just something weird.'
Not-Rin wondered if Isobu was regretting his curiosity that kept him in her body. And by the sound that resembled a sigh that came from him, Not-Rin knew he was thinking the same thing.
.
Konoha was rather large, Not-Rin thought as she was smuggled in during the dead of night. She eyed the passing buildings as they silently hopped across rooftops. They were colorful with many rooftops in greens, reds, oranges, and yellows. A few blues could be seen, or maybe they were purple? They reminded Not-Rin of fallen autumn leaves, which is perhaps what the Hidden Leaf Village was going for.
"You are hysterical." Isobu said dryly.
'Thanks, I know.' Not-Rin agreed easily. Watching her surroundings change, Not-Rin was a little startled when they suddenly went in through a window and her new view was of a half dressed man with long white hair and red markings across his face. He made a face as Minato proceeded to stick his hand straight through Not-Rin's chest hole, and Not-Rin coughed awkwardly.
"Sensei, not that you aren't a very handsome man, but that is still my chest." Not-Rin said, sounding innocent enough that Minato immediately retracted his hand while the white haired man-definitely Jiraiya-stared in disbelief.
"Minato is that your student? Your dead one?" Jiraiya asked. Not-Rin thought he sounded rather incredulous, considering she was standing right there.
"I don't think I'm quite dead." Not-Rin said, and when Jiraiya just kept staring, Not-Rin added, "I think I'm a zombie."
"Zo-n-bi?" Jiraiya repeated, a questioning tone in his voice.
Not-Rin chirped, "Like, the undead. A walking corpse. A risen."
Looking suddenly exhausted, Jiraiya sat down on his bed where he had been when Minato had burst into the room, "Resurrection... it's not impossible but highly unlikely."
"I mean, I'm standing here, aren't I?" Non-Rin snarked.
"I did say it was possible." Jiraiya retorted, then he narrowed his eyes at her, "Rin-chan, you've never been this snarky."
Not-Rin pointed at her head, "Things are a little messed up in here. Being dead probably does things to you."
"I would imagine." Jiraiya contemplated dryly, then he looked at Minato, "And you're sure this is your student?"
"Yes." Minato confirmed, "Her chakra signature is the same, and you can't fake that."
"I know damn well that you can't fake a chakra signature." Jiraiya rubbed his face. Then he blinked at the bits of ink underneath the torn fabric cover her stomach.
He apologized, "Sorry Rin-chan, but..." and he tugged on the fabric, peeking at her belly and looking aghast at what he found, "Minato, she's a bomb."
"A what." Minato responded with a sputter.
Jiraiya was already unsealing a set of fuinjutsu of supplies. It was extensive, with many brushes, scrolls, and inks. Jiraiya nodded to himself, "There's likely the Sanbi sitting in that seal, oozing volatile chakra into her and influencing her thoughts.
"Actually," Not-Rin began, ignoring Isobu as he said, "You fool, don't you say what I think you're-" and she finished, "He is a great conversation partner so far."
Both men now looked very alarmed.
Isobu stated, sounding agonized, "Why are you like this."
'I revel in subverting expectations. Plus, look at their faces!'
Jiraiya started to sort through his supplies faster, "Okay, time to fix up that seal. Rin-chan, lay back and give me access to that seal. Minato, go get her some new clothes for when I finish. Also, you might want to alert the old man."
Minato was gone in a flash, and Jiraiya very seriously started to study Not-Rin as she just ripped open the hole in her clothes to extend across her abdomen. She asked, "Can you make sure the seal still lets me talk to him? Oh, and let me get some of that sweet orange chakra too."
"Rin-chan..." Jiraiya began, and stopped when big brown eyes-had they always had that blue in them?- sparkled in his direction.
Jiraiya ran a hand across his tired face, "I might regret this, but I'm sure you have your reasoning. Minato says you're a bright one... It's dangerous though."
"You're a seal master." Not-Rin dismissed, "Just focus on making me not explode."
Then they got to work with Jiraiya folded her shirt upwards to get access to her belly. There was less of a draft now on her chest hole which was nice, and Not-Rin was sure it was a slight distract. She would fine it distracting if she was trying to focus, anyway
Jiraiya tried to knock her out too, so Not-Rin gave him the benefit of she pretended to be unconscious again.
"I can't believe I'm stuck with you as an interesting human." Isobu was complaining as Not-Rin focused on the odd feeling of the calligraphic fuinjutsu brush stroking across her skin. She thought it was a great feeling despite how much she had to focus on it to feel it. Her senses were more than a little off, which Not-Rin figured was a result of her being a zombie now. Isobu grunted, "Are you even listening?"
'Kind of. I'm curious what Jiraiya is doing. He's mumbling to himself but with all those brushes in his mouth, I can't make out what he's saying.'
"Part of the seal was destroyed when your chest was damaged. He's likely trying to build a solid seal without the use of the two gates that are damaged."
'Do you know about fuinjutsu, Turtle Gojira?'
"I will not answer to that ridiculous name."
'Fine, Isobu then. Do you?'
Sounding pleased, Isobu answered, "Not enough to teach a human. I happen to enjoy calligraphy."
'How do you do calligraphy!'
"I have hands."
Not-Rin, in her mental scape now, gestured towards his large clawed paws, 'Those hardly classify as hands!'
Isobu flexed his phalanges, "They are hands. I can handle a brush with them."
'What brush is large enough-' and as they spoke, a brush materialized for Isobu. He rolled back and on a materializing scroll, he wrote a long kanji that consisted of many beautiful strokes.
Not-Rin sulked, 'Okay, you proved your point.'
Isobu snorted, but looked rather pleased with himself.
.
The sealing took about the length of Not-Rin's patience. When Jiraiya was done, Not-Rin promptly sat up to look down at herself. Jiraiya had painted the seal across her entire abdomen, reaching down past her belly button. It was a rather interesting piece of body art, with beautiful scripted kanji and strokes. Not-Rin wondered what each of the seals meant.
Jiraiya, as he leaned back to observe his own work, said, "The seal is anchored to the two strongest gates, so hopefully it will hold."
Not-Rin felt at her belly, surprised when the ink didn't even smear. It was like it was tattooed permanently into her body now, which Not-Rin was sure it was. Not the sexiest tattoo, but Not-Rin supposed Rin hadn't been a tramp stamp kind of gal.
"Can you hear me still?"
'Looks like Jiraiya did keep communication open like I asked.'
"The seal feels stronger now. Your mind is also clearer and less jumbled."
Good to know.
Not-Rin looked at Jiraiya cheerfully, "Can we get something to eat now?"
"Do you still feel hunger?"
The answer was no. Not-Rin didn't want to admit that though.
'In my heart.'
Isobu snorted, "What heart?"
Jiraiya blinked thoughtfully at Not-Rin, "I suppose it would be a good idea. Minato and sensei should be back soon and after we deal with that, then we can eat."
"Great." Not-Rin beamed. As if summoned, Minato landed in the apartment with the Third Hokage standing casually beside him. Not-Rin was a bit surprised to see he still had color in his graying hair, as that clashed with her memories of him. Rin's memory though had him with a full head of brunette, so Not-Rin supposed this was fine.
Sarutobi Hiruzen wore what appeared to be rather comfortable looking pajamas with his formal robes tossed over them. He hadn't bothered grabbing his hat, but he was lighting his pipe as he observed the situation with vaguely interested dark eyes. After taking a deep inhale from his pipe, he asked, "What is the situation?"
"Rin-chan's seal has been fixed. Her cognitive status is entirely her own with no influence from the Sanbi, nor the mind compulsion seal that was drawn in."
"A compulsion seal?" Hiruzen breathed, smoke coming from his mouth and nostrils.
"I wasn't able to take out the seal due to it being integrated within the sealing, but I nullified it with a layer over it." Jiraiya frowned, "It's also in an incomplete state. I fear that the seal may be the reason Rin-chan is a little... not herself."
"What do you mean?" Minato asked, alarmed. He had been holding some folded clothes that were likely for Not-Rin, but he wasn't handing them to her. Instead he was staring at her new tattoos with critical blue eyes.
Jiraiya sighed, "While sealing I noticed Rin-chan's chakra, aside from her new jinchuuriki status, is imbalanced. An unnatural amount of spiritual chakra is running through her system and reacted badly when I changed the seal. My theory is that this extra chakra is keeping Rin-chan alive, and if I further tamper with it then Rin-chan might die."
Not-Rin blinked, "I have my own theory, actually."
All eyes were on her now, and all of them were intense. Isobu muttered something along the lines of "What are you going to spew now?" as Not-Rin looked between each of the three men.
Then she said, "I'm not Nohara Rin."
All three of the men blinked, and Isobu sighed deeply. Not-Rin continued, "Completely, anyway. While I definitely am Rin in body, and I have the memories of Rin, there is some extra memory in here. In fact, this extra spiritual chakra are probably these extra memories I have. I think I was brought back from death... to save the world."
"I am surprised at how well you lie."
'It's not lying if I sprinkle some truth in there. They don't need to know that I'm definitely not Rin. I need them to still want to help me, and I need them to be receptive to what I say. So I need to play myself as Rin trying to help despite the atrocity that was committed against me.'
Minato was the first to recover, "Can you... elaborate, Rin-chan?"
Not-Rin beamed, "I have knowledge of a particular set of events that will be triggered from my death. Specifically..." Not-Rin pointed to Minato with a serious look in her eyes, "On October 10th, the night your son will be born, you and Kushina will be killed by a masked man who will unleash the kyuubi from her weakened seal upon the village. This will set many terrible tragedies in motion, and I think I have been revived with these extra memories to be able to stop this future."
"I may not be... entirely the same with these strange new memories." Not-Rin forced tears to well in her eyes, "But please, listen to me. I'm still in here."
All three men were pale, and Hiruzen looked like he wanted a second pipe to deal with this situation. Instead, Hiruzen put his pipe down on the table and he breathed out the last of his smoke, "This is... a big claim, Rin-chan."
Not-Rin stared into his eyes, "These memories know many things, Hokage-sama. Past, present, and future."
"Can you prove it?" Jiraiya asked.
Minato put a hand on Not-Rin's shoulder, "She already has. Rin-chan shouldn't know Kushina is pregnant, nor do we know the gender of our baby, and no one should know that Kushina is the jinchuuriki of the kyuubi."
Not-Rin wanted to prove a point, and so she pointed to Jiraiya who jumped at the sudden movement, "You have three other students in Ame. A girl named Konan, a boy named Yahiko, and a boy named Nagato who has the Rinnegan. If it isn't already too late, Yahiko will be killed by Hanzo and it will send Nagato and Konan on a spiral of revenge." Then Not-Rin turned to Hiruzen who watched her finger point to him warily, "Shimura Danzo commands ROOT, which is what has turned Hanzo against the three orphans who created the Akatsuki organization for peace."
Not-Rin had effectively caused Hiruzen and Jiraiya to fall silent, both looking pale and alarmed. Hiruzen said, "ROOT... should not be known to a chunin."
"In the memories, you disband it." Not-Rin says, and Hiruzen's eyes flicker to her with unreadable emotion in them, "And Danzo ignores the order and runs it underground, as his own army."
"These are big claims." Hiruzen finally says, closing his eyes, "However it appears that... none of them are wrong."
Not-Rin nodded seriously, "I plan to change things from this future that I know."
"What will your plan be, after convincing these humans?"
'Honestly? Not even there yet. Getting Jiraiya, Minato, and Sarutobi on my side is likely harder than-'
Minato hummed, "Well, I believe you Rin-chan. It's hard to believe, but you wouldn't lie to us. You've always done what is best for the village, so I will put my faith in you."
Not-Rin blinked in disbelief at him, while Jiraiya ran a hand across his face. Jiraiya nodded slowly, "It's true that it's hard to wrap your head around, but you know things that you shouldn't know. I wouldn't go as far as putting all my trust in you so soon, but I will take your words into heavy consideration."
Hiruzen was silent. Jiraiya, having said his piece, sat down on his bed and crossed his legs, leaning back on his hands. Not-Rin looked down at her seal again, and she mentioned, "There is also the matter of... this." Not-Rin pulled up the fabric that had been mostly covering the gaping hole in her chest. Hiruzen's eyebrows shot up, and he suddenly looked significantly more tired.
He smoked his pipe for emotional support, "Minato... when you said Rin-chan had a hole in her chest, I had not thought you meant... this."
"It's not terrible." Not-Rin said.
Jiraiya disagreed, "No, no it's pretty terrible."
Hiruzen massaged his temples, and then pulled out a chair to take a seat. He breathed smoke as he observed the hole in her chest, "That... is fatal."
"I don't have a heart anymore." Not-Rin chirped morbidly, "But apparently I don't need it anyway."
Looking like he wanted to be anywhere but here, Hiruzen looked out the window.
He nodded, "Yes I think this is the perfect time to end this discussion. We can all sleep on it. For the time being, Rin-chan you are not to leave this room and only the four of us know-"
Minato sheepishly said, "Kushina is... on her way here."
"Five then." Hiruzen pinched the bridge of his nose, "In the meantime, tomorrow I have other matters I wish to discuss with you Minato. Please return me to my living room."
Minato nodded firmly, "Of course sir." and he took hold of the Third's bicep before he looked towards Not-Rin and shot her a quick, and surprisingly genuine small smile, "Rin-chan, if Kushina gets here before I get back... please don't mention anything about the future you saw." Hiruzen looked like he approved of this.
And then the pair were gone in a flash. Not-Rin looked at Jiraiya, who blinked tiredly at her sudden look, and she frowned, "Wait if I can't leave... does that mean no food?"
"Your priorities are not in order." Isobu sighed.
.
Uzumaki Kushina was beautiful. She had long brilliant hair that Not-Rin immediately yearned for as soon as Kushina swept into the room energetically. Not-Rin had changed into the pair of clothes Minato had dropped off and she had stuffed some cloth into the hole in her chest in an effort to even herself out. This worked enough, because Kushina didn't notice anything wrong as she swept Not-Rin into a bone cracking hug.
Feeling her spine crack after about fifteen seconds, Not-Rin greeted, "Hi, Kushina-san."
"Oh Rin-chan!" Kushina half sobbed, pulling back and squishing her hands on either side of Not-Rin's face as she stared at Not-Rin, "It really is you, dattebane!"
Kushina had a beautiful face too. Round and cute with a button nose and big ocean colored eyes. Not-Rin wished Rin looked more like Kushina. Although she supposed she had cool purple squares on her face.
Right, Kushina was probably expecting a response, "I'm glad to be back, Kushina-san."
Kushina released her grip on Not-Rin and turned to Jiraiya, who was relaxing on his bed scribbling away into a notebook, "And you, Jiraiya-san! Minato mentioned something about a seal?"
"All taken care of, hime." Jiraiya said, not even looking up.
That ticked Kushina off, "Well, what was it, then?"
Not-Rin went to open her mouth and Jiraiya sent her a look. Then he answered passively, "When Minato gets back he might be able to tell you."
"I think Kushina-san should know." Not-Rin said sagely and Jiraiya frowned as Not-Rin announced, "Kushina-san, I am now the junchuuriki of the Sanbi."
Kushina choked at the nonchalant way Not-Rin delivered that.
"Or perhaps," Isobu remarked dryly, "She's shocked to hear of another jinchuuriki."
'Are you able to tell she's a jinchuuriki without the prior knowledge?'
"Yes. My brother is also likely aware that I am here."
'Can you two like... talk.'
"The seal that Kushina-san has prevents Kurama from contacting me." Isobu sounded upset. "Despite not being close with my siblings, I am still upset to see them in deplorable conditions, sealed away like they are." Now he sounded defensive.
Kushina managed to blink herself back into existence from her shock, while Isobu grumbled to himself in the back of Not-Rin's mind. Then she inhaled deeply, "It will be okay Rin-chan. It's scary, and trust me I know. I'm... I'm a jinchuuriki as well."
"I know." Not-Rin chirped, "Of the kyuubi."
Nodding slowly, Kushina said, "Of course, Minato must have told you. But well, we'll get you through this Rin-chan. I will share my years of experience with you."
Not-Rin brightened, "Can you reach me sealing?" Since Rin had been a dumb bitch and hadn't taken up her sensei's offer in the past.
"Are you sure you'll have time? I'm sure you'll want your hospital shifts back." Kushina warned, "Fuinjutsu is an art that is serious, and requires dedication. It's not something that can be learned halfheartedly."
Not-Rin was confident that she wouldn't be allowed back in the hospital for some time, "I don't think I'd be... safe, as a medic with the Sanbi's chakra. My control and balance has been... offset." Not-Rin thought that was a pretty good, and convenient, cover for why she was going to be learning the basics again. Sure she had Rin's memories and muscle memory, but Not-Rin was still not used to chakra, nor used to really anything Rin did with her life.
Off topic, but Not-Rin wondered if she counted as alive in this state.
Kushina was nodding to herself again, a sad expression on her face. She hugged Not-Rin's head to her chest and rubbed her back soothingly, "Things will be okay, Rin-chan. Things will get better, and go back to normal."
Not-Rin didn't really care that much. She was actually having a pretty good time so far. It was cool seeing characters in real life, and honestly, she was willing to change the plot now just because she wanted Kushina to be able to make pretty red haired babies with Minato. Kushina was nice and motherly, and deserved better than what she got in Canon. Minato seemed nice and Not-Rin supposed he deserved better. Jiraiya was pretty okay too. Isobu was a great head-space sharer too.
"sure." Isobu grunted, sounding like he was still disgruntled from being defensive earlier.
Not-Rin thought to herself, yes, she was fine if things would be changing for her now. Not-Rin wasn't Rin, despite no one really knowing that.
Besides, normal was overrated. And Not-Rin was certainly not normal.
There was no normal to return to.
AN:
I just wanted to write a fun story about a badass Rin-who-isn't-Rin as a zombie fixing things. She's totally gonna smooch Obito.
Updates will be... sporadic.
