A/N: Borrowing characters from the TV show "The shield" The strike team are teenagers in this story.

He holds a nervous but steady gaze under his cap. Sergeant Morris' beady little eyes had found a flaker. He watches the Sergeant walk over. This "New kid" is almost as tall as him. But Eli can see that he looks weird. Not scared, but unsettled. He can see it in the way that he free hand tremors at the upper leg.

"Not my fault Sir, the rifle broke"

"We don't deal with excuses in this establishment Groff!" Sergeant Morris yells. Sure, he harder on the newbies, but Morris is one of the good ones. He's not pervy, or violent, or throws buckets of different types of shit on you for fun. He's professional. "It can be tricky..the first time" He nods. "Get some of your peers to help you"

"I don't need help" The new kid tells him. Eli smiles. He gets the feeling this kid is a loner. He feels like doesn't need anyone or anything. In military school that solo cowboy shit will get him no-where. He'll need help. He'll need colleagues. He'll need friends.

"Everyone needs help solider. I can ask around" Sergeant Morris says.

Eli licks his lip and crosses his fingers. When Sergeant Morris doesn't ask, or tell, he decides to go to Vic. It took him six months to become part of the strike team, but when he finally got to the top, it was so, so worth it. They had their own headquarters, they had phone and Wi-fi access, they could get alloted hours gaming, fast food, even girls on the sly. Although right now girls were the last thing on Eli's mind.

The New kid was tall, cute and had one of the fittest bodies he'd seen in this shit hole. He'd like to see him join the team, he wanted him on it now. He knocks on the clubhouse door. The special knock. The beginning of the Teenage mutant ninja turtle theme song. The door opens and he marches straight past Lem who was ready to enjoy a what looked like a fifty pack of McDonald's chicken nuggets.

"Hello to you too" He smiles, offering him a nugget. Lem is one of the most coolest, nicest guys on base. Not fake nice, but nice, nice. He was the guy that brought Eli in. He'd have no problem with New kid. New kid might want to fuck Lem though. That was the only problem. Lem was a tall guy at six foot foot four, with the natural blonde quiff that made him look even taller. He was the heart-throb of the group without a doubt. Not that that really mattered in a mostly male school.

"Vic, that new kid. The one that had a shit rifle?"

"Groff" Vic states looking at him with a blank stare.

"Yeah. I think he'd be good for us" Eli inquires.

"No fucking way! We're cool as a group of four!" Shane whines. Shane Vendrell. The most non-pc of the group. Racist sexist, homophobic and was against people of colour and women serving. How he'd become friends with Vic, god only knew. With his trashy views on LGBTQIA, Eli always kept a safe distance. If Shane ever found out that he liked people, instead of just blonde skinnies with tits, he'd be toast.

"New kid looks like a warrior. Someone, we can have on side" He nods.

"That's what we've got Lem for!" Shane points.

"What? I thought I was only eye candy!"

"I'll look into Groff. See what skeletons he's got in the closet" Vic decided.

"We've gotta talk to him. Get him set up in our bunk room, before Morris puts him somewhere else" Eli offers.

"You'd love that, wouldn't you faggot?" Shane grins.

"I'd call your sister, but her pimp said she wasn't available. Do you want me to put the feelers out? Get some contact going?" Eli asks Vic.

"No. I've got it covered. We'll keep an eye on Groff. From a distance. I'll be the only one that talks to him. Understand?" Vic asks.

Eli nods while holding a disappointed sigh in.
