Chapter 1:Prelude to Dawn

Imperial Year 1185

31st Lone Moon

Two figures arrive at the ruins of the once-great Garreg Mach Monastery. One dressed in a red dress with gold highlights,
a long red cape and gloves and golden pieces of metal on black boots, and a golden circlet shaped to look like horns resting on white hair wrapped in buns.

The other wearing a black coat plated with metal for protection with the right sleeve torn off,
a metal shoulder pad and a vambrace on the arm with its sleeve still intact all dyed black to match, and white markings spiraling down the skin of the right arm,
centering on a symbol in the palm of the hand, the same color of white as their messy hair that reaches down the back of their neck.

The two are standing in front of one of the three homerooms that once held many students of the once renowned Officers Academy.

"To see the homeroom of the Black Eagles in this condition pains me so." said the one in red as they peer into the now ravaged room.

"I still remember when Byleth had to carry Bernadetta to class because she wouldn't come out of her room.".

"Yeah, Seteth didn't let us hear the end of it, I told her that she was only scaring her and all she said back was 'She was late.'

then continued walking with Bernadetta trying desperately to escape her grip." replied the one in black.

"I'm going to see if anything is left, let's meet back here in 5 minutes. Okay, Edelgard?" they said to their companion.

"Very well I shall see if Hubert has found anything" Edelgard responded.

While walking to the cathedral, the one in black spots many corpses, most of them were bandits.
As they continued to walk they realized that a few of the corpses had died very recently,
as well there were fresh blood-soaked footprints headed towards the Goddess Tower.

Deciding to investigate they followed the footprints,
as they climbed up the stairs of the Goddess Tower they wondered who could have killed all those bandits, they could think of a few who could, himself for one.
Before he could think of any more people who could have killed those bandits he drew his sword just in time to block a spear being swung at him,
if he didn't block that attack it would have gone straight through his neck, killing him instantly.
As he turns to face his assailant he's forced to block a second strike aimed at their heart.

"What are you doing here!" his attacker shouted, only then does he recognize his assailant. Wearing heavy black armor,
a long blue cape with their raged blond hair and an eye patch covering their right eye, there's only one person who would look like that.

"I could ask you the same thing, Dimitri." He says as he evaded another one of Dimitri's attacks.

"Why? Why did you join her? I thought we were friends?" Cries Dimitri. "Why? Why? WHY?" With each question, he swings again each one harder than the last.
He finds that if this keeps up, Dimitri would eventually land a hit on him, he has to do something. As he blocks an attack he grabs the shaft of the spear,
then using Dimitri momentum against him, he pulls the spear out of Dimitri's hand.
Shocked that he had his spear taken out of his hand Dimitri is unable to dodge the kick aimed at his head.
Dimitri hits the wall hard and before he is able to get back up they find that their opponent is charging up an orb of lighting.
Just before he uses Thoron they feel someone grab his arm.

"Stop! What are you doing?" Someone tells them. Both him and Dimitri turn to the one who interrupted them. Upon the sight of the at the one who stopped him,
he dropped his sword

"I-I thought Rhea k-killed you." As Dimitri stares at the two of them, he can't believe what's happening, first him then…

"Byleth? Y-you're alive? I can't believe it! they exclaimed.

"You've changed brother." said Byleth.
