A/N: This story will end up crossing over to the anime at some point. Also, this story may start off with a bit of a strange intro compared to what Mystery Dungeon games do, but it is surely a PMD story. Plot not based on any of the games.

"Life can really suck!"
A young male voice could be heard yelling through what appeared to be a large forest of sorts, the forest being incredibly dense with some sunlight shining through the cracks and gaps within the canopy of the forest. The person that the voice had come from could be seen running through as fast as they can.
"I mean, at least when I became like this I got some knowledge as to how to use my damn moves. But, still though! Why is this happening?!" The voice shouted to itself as they soon ran into an open space within the forest, which allowed for the light to show what the person that was shouting looked like.
The figure appeared to be a small pokemon that was running on all fours, having mainly a yellow and black body. He had ear tips, collar, and a tail that are black and angular. His pink cheek pouches seemed to spark small amounts of electricity, and his tiny nose looked like a dot. Though, his left ear appeared to have three spikes on the tip.
This pokemon was none other than a Pichu, and also the young man that was currently seemingly running for his life. The young man's name is Ray, a person that lived your normal everyday life of a ten-year-old kid back home, until this happened of course. He was running from what looked to be another pokemon.
"Alright, you damn Persian. Thunder Punch!" Ray shouted as he gained a tick mark on his forehead. He then reeled his fist back at the cream coloured feline pokemon that was running towards him, his small fist releasing large amounts of electricity that crackled before he then threw the punch forwards.
When Ray's attack made contact with the cheek of the Persian, the cat's face went comical as it was then sent flying off into the distance before disappearing into the sky as a he could have sworn he saw a star twinkle in response. Ray still had the tick mark on his head, though he sighed before sitting down on a rock.
"Don't know how a Pichu can punch so damn hard like that, but I'm not complaining. Man, what the heck. Why did I turn into this...?" Ray sighed as he then fell onto his back and stared into the sky. It had been around an hour or so since he had woken up in this new body as well as in this new world, at least he assumed it was as he knew pokemon didn't exist.
He could remember everything, so he didn't have amnesia at least. Though, waking up in this world and as a pokemon is definitely on his top list of weird things that have happened to him. He remembered waking up, freaking out when he noticed his change, and that soon led to him being chased down by Persian.
He only survived so long because it seemed that his brain automatically learned of things like the moves he could use and how to use them, though he was still having a bit of difficulty in using them properly, so he was going to need to work on that if he wanted to survive in this world. Who knows how long he'll be here, maybe even forever...
"This kind of reminds me of those games, like those damn mystery dungeon games or something, I forgot..." He could have sworn, this situation he was in right now was exactly what it was like in those games. He hoped that wasn't seriously the case. "Though, is being a Pichu or a human better... I don't know."
"Hm? Being a human? What do you mean?"
"Well, you see. I was actually-! What the?" Ray suddenly froze when he realised that there was someone else talking aside from him, and they were really close to him. He slowly turned his head while still laying down on the rock, to which he saw something that made him jump in surprise. "Holy crap!"
"Wh-What!" In surprise, Ray seemed to unconsciously release electricity from his cheeks as he seemed to zap himself, the other person having also seemed to be zapped as they were both in the air and jerking due to the shock before it suddenly stopped and they both dropped to the ground groaning.
"Ow~... I know my species shocks itself sometimes, but that's really annoying..." Ray groaned as he was facedown on the ground, his ears flopped as he was laying there. Small amounts of electricity sparking off his body as he groaned, he remembered doing this once before when he freaked out about changing into a Pichu when he woke up, it was not pleasant.
"Ugh~..."
"Huh?" Ray groaned as he turned his head upwards while holding his head with one hand. When he did, he finally saw who the person that spoke to him was. It appeared to be another Pichu, a female one to be exact and one that was probably his age. He didn't know how he knew that since they both looked practically the same, though he just did... pokemon logic. "Th-That was surprising..."
"Sorry about that... Who are you?" Ray decided to ask as he managed to sit up. The female Pichu doing the same as she looked towards Ray, both of them having half-opened eyes due to the little incident they just had. The Pichu seemed to stare at him blinking before finally responding after suddenly perking up.
"O-Oh! My name is Chu! Nice to meet you." The female Pichu, now known as Chu, introduced herself as she had small sparks coming off of her cheeks. Ray nodded his head at this as he shook his head to clear his head, to which he then returned the gesture. "My name is Ray, nice to meet you too. So, where in the world did you come from? You surprised me there..."
"Y-Yeah, sorry about that. I was kind of walking through the forest exploring before I found you, I was curious and went over. I overheard you talking, so I was even more curious." Ray just nodded his head in understanding. Though, the next thing she said made him pale. "So, what did you mean by being human?"
"U-Uh... nothing?"
"Hmmm, you're lying! I can tell!" Chu pouted cutely as Ray sweatdropped. He was never the best at lying to people... She seemed to be quite insistent as she scooted closer to him as she pouted up at him. "What did you mean by it? I want to know! You said something about being human, so why?"
"I have no choice, do I?" Ray said to himself as he sighed. He could already tell that Chu was not the type of person to give up on something so easily, despite only knowing her for what? Two minutes? Ray then crossed his arms as he then responded by saying. "Basically, I am actually a human turned pokemon. Got that out of my system now..."
"I see, so you were human, but you transformed into a Pichu... wait, what?!" Chu widened her eyes comically as realisation suddenly struck her. She froze as she stared into Ray's eyes, who just was calm the entire time as he sat there with crossed arms, he was already expecting this reaction. "Are you... okay?"
"Yes, I am very sure that I'm okay..." Ray gained a tick mark behind his head as well as a sweatdrop as Chu placed her hand on his forehead, did she seriously think he was sick? Though, he could kind of understand since that would be shocking news. "I just woke up in the forest as a Pichu, I do remember being human though."
"I see, that's a hard pill to swallow... Though, that's pretty strange too." Chu said with a tilt of her head. Ray blinked in confusion and noticed she was looking at his ears, the left one to be precise. Were his spikes weird? He did know that a spiky-eared Pichu was special in the games, but was it the same here? "I've never seen another Pichu with spikes on their ears."
"Uhh~... Mind letting go?" Ray deadpanned as Chu was now suddenly next to him on his left side as she was pulling on his ear. Though, she wasn't pulling hard, but gently as he was feeling only a small tug as she curiously examined his ear in interest. "I know it's probably strange, but do you mind?"
"O-Oh! Sorry about that!" Chu let go of his ear as she gained a deep blush on her face due to embarrassment. Ray just waved it off with a smile, he could tell she was a curious individual, so he didn't mind that much. Ray then looked around before saying. "So, do you mind telling me why you were going through this forest?"
"Well... the thing is." Chu seemed flushed as she was tapping both of her hands together. Ray seemed confused, what in the world was she so embarrassed about? Was the reason that strange? Chu then looked around before sighing. "The truth is that I'm trying to get home. I know the direction, but the bridge I crossed to get here kind of collapsed..."
"I see, so you were pretty much lost. Though, in this case, you were trying to find an alternative way of getting back home, huh?" Ray stated. Chu sighed as she dropped her shoulder with a sigh, Ray just pat her on the head, causing her to look up. "Don't worry, is there another way you know you can get back? I'll help as much as I can."
"W-Well, I heard that there should be a passageway within the forest that appears like a circular cave, though made entirely of forestry. I believe it should end up leading near my home." Chu explained. Ray seemed to blink as he rose an eyebrow, a secret passage of sorts huh? That was interesting.
"Is that it?"
"E-Eh?" Chu blinked before turning towards the direction that Ray pointed his paw towards. When she looked, it seemed that he was pointing towards a circular cave-like entrance that lead into the forest, though it was a bit hidden due to the density of the forest. Chu stared at it with blank eyes before smiling. "Yes! Yes it is!"
"Huh, that was easier than I thought..."
"Let's go! My home awaits!"
"Wait, hold on a second!" Ray widened his eyes when Chu suddenly grabbed his arm and began pulling him towards the entrance of the supposed cave. She wasn't too physically powerful if the pulling strength was anything to go by, so he just walked as she was pulling on his arm. "So, this leads to your home? Which is?"
"Abarol Village! You said that you suddenly woke up here, right? Then you should come with me!" Chu smiled brightly. Now that they were both standing, Ray noticed he was a small bit taller than Chu was. When he heard this, he scratched the back of his head and said. "Are you sure? I don't want to intrude..."
"It's fine, the village is very welcoming. My parents would also not mind if you would visit us!" Chu assured. Ray seemed a bit conflicted, he really didn't want to intrude at all on these pokemon, but he really didn't have much of a choice right now. Ray smiled as he sighed. "Very well. It would be rude to not accept."
"Yay! Then we should get going!" Chu smiled brightly with closed eyes. Ray just smiled gently at this, it seemed that she was excited to get back home. She must have gotten homesick or something if she was this happy to get home as soon as possible. Chu then went up to the entrance before leaning in as Ray walked on next to her. "Oh no... could it be?"
"Huh? What is it?"
"This cave, I think it might be a mystery dungeon..."
'No... This is just like the games! Kill me now...' Ray thought to himself as a pulsating tick mark appeared behind his head. He had hoped he was wrong about the situation he was in, but it seems that it was useless. Mystery dungeons... core mechanics of the mystery dungeon games. "So, what's a mystery dungeon?"
"Y-You don't know?" Chu asked in surprise. Ray nodded his head at this, in truth though, he did know what they were. But, that would make him seem a bit suspicious about his story from before being a lie, so playing dumb right now was the best option. Plus, he wanted to make sure everything was the same here as it is in the games.
"They're basically areas in our world that many different pokemon are quite aggressive, always attacking on sight. We don't know why they act so aggressively, just that they do in these areas." Chu explained with a tilt of her head, it was weird, explaining something that was usually common knowledge.
'Good, it seems that it is pretty much the same to my knowledge. Well, it's actually better as she didn't say that these places change every time someone enters it, so no worrying about that at least.' Ray thought with a nod of his head. He then looked at the dungeon entrance. "So, do you know how strong the pokemon in here are?"
"Well, I'm not certain. But, I'm pretty sure we can take them on if there's the two of us!" Chu said with a smile on her face. Ray smiled before nodding, to which Chu then took hold of his hand before tugging at him as they walked in. He didn't know what they were going to find in here, so staying cautious was a good idea.
'How I didn't notice that bag is beyond me...'
Ray had thought to himself as the two of them could currently be seen inside of the dungeon, the dense forestry surrounding them everywhere. The walls were literally just the trees with the roof being the leaves, all being dense with very little light coming through, just what kind of terrain formation was this?
Ray was now watching with his arms crossed as he saw Chu happily picking up berries that had fallen from the trees and were now littered on the ground everywhere in the dungeon. It was just like the games, there were items that were just laying on the ground. They had found berries as well as seeds and wands, the weird stuff.
Though, what Ray was confused about was how he hadn't noticed the large bag that Chu was carrying with her that was swung on her shoulder. The bag was where Chu put all the items they had found, but what shocked him the most was that they had yet to run into a single pokemon, and they were in here for a like ten minutes already.
"Are you okay? That bag is looking heavy..." Ray asked as he walked on over towards Chu, who did appear to be struggling as she had puffed her cheeks out as she was trying to walk with the bag so full of items. Chu panted as she looked up at Ray. "Y-Yeah, I think so... The bag is just a little heavy."
"A little heavy? Doesn't look it." Ray deadpanned slightly. Chu just nervously giggled as she heard this, she knew that she was struggling. Ray then sighed before putting on a gentle smile, he then proceeded to take the bag from Chu before swinging it over his shoulder, it was actually really for him... "I'll carry it instead, rest yourself."
"O-Okay..." Chu replied. They soon continued with their walk through the dungeon as they collected the items that they came across, some of them being useful and some just completely useless, which they left the useless ones behind though. Ray was just glad the place didn't get any darker than it already was.
"Um... Ray?"
"Yeah? Something wrong?"
"I've been meaning to ask... But, back when you were a human. What were your parents like?" Chu wondered curiously. Chu noticed instantly that Ray seemed to gain a dark look on his face, to which she instantly became concerned as she might have asked something that Ray didn't appreciate. "Ray...? Are you alright?"
"It's nothing, just that my life with my parents wasn't exactly good... or anything really." Ray muttered the last bit so Chu couldn't hear it. Just thinking about his parents seemed to swell anger within his body, though he soon pushed it down. He then looked at Chu. "I'd rather you not ask about them."
"S-Sorry... It must be a sensitive thing."
"It's fine, you didn't know. Anyway, what about you? How are your parents like?" Ray wondered curiously. Chu blinked at the question for a second before smiling, she was skipping next to him happily as they walked. "They're great! My mom is one that worries a lot for people, especially me, and my dad is actually pretty lazy, but he's caring..."
"I see..." Ray sweatdropped. What an interesting family she had indeed... He then thought of something as soon as he helped Chu get up a rather tall ledge, to which they then continued their walk as he decided to ask. "What is your home like? This... Abarol Village? What kind of place is it?"
"It's peaceful. All the pokemon are nice, most of them at least. They'll be more than happy to have another member of the village to be added!" Chu smiled with closed eyes as she said this. He knew that she was referring to him, but he really didn't want to cause any trouble by intruding. Would they really be okay with it?
"Sounds like a nice place. But, why were you in the forest? Were you just exploring?"
"Not really, more like I was running some errands for my mom. She had asked me to collect some ingredients for us to make dinner." Chu explained as Ray nodded his head. Chu then added. "That was the reason for me going into the forest. I heard that there were some Majuri Berries here, so I wanted to get some."
"Majuri? What are those?" Ray asked in a confused manner. He knew for a fact that there were no such things as Majuri Berries in pokemon, so was it something that only existed in this particular world? Most likely. Chu responded by digging into the bag that Ray was still holding before taking out a strange berry and holding it with both her hands.
"This is a Majuri Berry! It's really delicious!" Chu smiled. Ray inspected the berry, with the berry being spherical with a red stem coming out the top. The main body of the berry was yellow and it seemed to give off a rather pleasant aroma. It was actually rather inviting. "Here, taste it! You won't regret it!"
"If you say so." Ray took hold of the berry as he then soon opened his mouth before taking a small bite out of the berry. He was never one to eat much, so taking large bites wasn't exactly something he ever did. When it struck his taste buds, he widened his eyes considerably as he smiled. "Woah! These really are good!"
"Told you so! Amazing, right?" Chu giggled. Ray smiled as he certainly did enjoy the taste of this newfound berry, for him at least. It honestly tasted like a fruit that had been grown by a farmer with countless years of experience, done so in the best of conditions and sold when at the freshest. Chu also seemed to be enjoying herself.
"Here, you have some too." Ray voiced. Chu blinked as she then saw Ray break the berry in two before handing one half to her, which she stared at for a second before looking up at Ray. He just gave her a gentle smile, causing her face to flush a bit, though she did accept it and happily ate it with Ray.
"Well, we should probably hurry so we can get-! Look out!" Ray shouted. He then suddenly grabbed Chu before jumping towards the ground as they rolled to a stop, Chu was surprised by the sudden action as she had ended up dropping the berry she was eating. "Wh-What? What happened?!"
"Something just attacked, watch out!" True to his words, Ray had felt something rush past the both of them, barely missing them. They both looked to see what it was, and when they did, the figure revealed to be a pokemon that was far bigger than them and seemed to resemble a mushroom.
It has a huge grey stem-like body, fierce-looking eyes, and a large pink mouth. It wielded two Pokeball-like shields, which the pokemon seemed to be holding up at them as it held a hostile look in its eyes. Chu appeared to be scared as she stared at the pokemon, though Ray seemed to just narrow his eyes.
"Amoonguss, huh? Mind telling me why you attacked us?" Ray asked with a calm yet serious tone. Amoonguss just gave a cry before seemingly taking a breath, to which it then fired out a gust of purple spores towards them. Ray widened his eyes before grabbing Chu and jumping out of the way and behind Amoonguss. "That was close... Poison Powder. Nasty stuff."
"Wh-What do we do, Ray?" Chu stuttered. Ray stared at her for a second, it seemed that she was not used to actually fighting other pokemon, he wouldn't be surprised if this was actually the first time she had faced something this big in a battle. She didn't know what to do in this situation.
"Just stand back."
"E-Eh?"
"Keep this safe, I'll deal with this." Ray said, much to Chu's shock. She then saw that Ray gave her the bag as he turned to face Amoonguss, who was glaring towards their position. He didn't deter from the gaze though, he just hardened his own as he narrowed his eyes. 'I'm not like the protagonists like in the games. I'm not getting my ass whooped!'
"Are you sure about this? That Amoonguss looks strong!" Chu asked in a very worried tone of voice. She had only met Ray not too long ago, but he was definitely a good friend of hers! He was nice too! Ray just turned back and gave a thumbs-up with a smile on his face. "Don't worry, just stay there. I'll finish this quickly."
"O-Okay..."
"Prepare thyself, mushroom face! Thy ass shall be kicked!" Ray declared. Amoonguss gained a tick mark as he rushed towards Ray, Amoonguss's right arm then glowed white as it swung its arm towards Ray. Chu watched with widened eyes as she expected Ray to be sent flying from the attack.
"Ray! Are you al-! Woah!" Chu stopped herself as she held her hand over her mouth in shock. What she was witnessing right now was shocking, Ray held one arm forwards as he seemed to managed to hold the attack back. His feet dug in the ground slightly and his body slid a bit back as it dug the ground up. "How...?"
"Thunder Punch!" Ray then enveloped his right arm in electricity before punching the Amoonguss, making it roll back as it released a cry of pain. Chu was shocked by the power that it had, being able to send a pokemon so much larger than them flying back that much. How could a Pichu be so physically powerful? "Quick Attack!"
Ray's body was covered in a silver light before his body shot forwards at incredible speeds, to which he soon appeared next to Amoongus, surprising the pokemon. Ray then smirked before holding one hand on Amoongus's side, to which his cheeks then gave a spark Amoonguss widened its eyes as it knew what he was going to do.
"Thunder Shock!" Ray shouted as his body released an immense amount of electricity. The powerful electricity shocking Amoonguss greatly as it began to spasm due to the shocking, Ray was actually surprised by the amount of power he had when it came to electricity. He remembered that Pichu's usually had small cheeks for storing electricity.
"Amazing..." Chu was shocked by the power that Ray had. His physical prowess being far greater than any Pichu she had ever seen, no Pichu or even a Pikachu or possibly a Raichu had such physical strength, yet here was Ray with that strength. She was glad he was here more than ever, she wouldn't have been able to go through here alone.
"Wow, that was easier than I thought. Though, if life is anything, than it's something that goes from easy to kill me now status, so I better still keep my guard up for the future." Ray said to himself as he saw that the Amoonguss was no longer conscious as swirls had replaced its eyes. "At least that's over. Well, let's get going, Chu."
"R-Right..." Chu muttered as she still had eyes wide as possible in shock. Ray just blinked at this as he took hold of the bag before throwing over his shoulder again, he then waved his hand in front of her face, bringing her back from her trance as she shook her head. "Th-That was really quick."
"Meh. The quicker the better."
It had been around an hour or so since Ray had defeated the Amoonguss, and during this time, they had managed to get all the way through the mystery dungeon. On their way to this point, they had encountered many more pokemon that ended up attacking them, Chu was actually pretty strong, surprising Ray.
She wasn't strong physically, but her electricity was powerful, on par with him actually. Was it normal for Pichu to be this strong? Or were they special individuals? He knew Pichu's aren't this strong in the anime or games, maybe it was just this world of something. Though, there was really no point in thinking about it right now.
"There it is! Abarol Village!" Chu cheered. They were now walking over towards the ledge of a large cliff that overlooked a large landscape, Chu was staring down with sparkles in her eyes as Ray walked up next to her calmly as he was still holding the bag full of items. "It looks beautiful, right? Ray!"
"Definitely looks peaceful." Ray smiled. From what he could see of the place right now, it was a decently large village with many different buildings that were scattered around. There also seemed to be a river running through the village as well, and what he assumed was a bridge extending over it.
"Look over on the left! That's my house!"
"The one with the yellow roof?"
"Yep! That's where we will be going!" Chu smiled brightly. Ray narrowed his eyes to see if he could focus his eyes on the house, though it was difficult due to the distance that separated them. He couldn't properly tell the size nor the clear design of the place, to which he then soon blinked when he felt his arm being tugged. "Let's get going, Ray! I want you to meet my parents!"
"Sure, I guess... They're probably worried about you too, it is getting a bit late if the position of the sun is anything to go by." Ray said as he looked up towards the sky. The sun did appear to be going past the midday point as the place was getting a bit darker. "Then let's get going fast then!"
"Alright. Calm down, I'm coming."
Ray looked once more off of the cliff before smiling as he then ran on after Chu, who was waving at him with a big smile on her face.
