I MUST ASK THAT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE GOING TO BE CHANGES MADE TO CERTAIN CHARACTERS AS IT HAS TO THE REASON THAT CERTAIN THINGS ARE GOING TO BE HAPPENING. IN ORDER TO TELL THE STORY THE WAY THAT I SEE FIT THESE CHANGES ARE COMPLETELY NECESSARY. I WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO THINK ABOUT THE THINGS THAT THEY ARE COMMENTING BEFORE ACTUALLY COMMENTING THEM DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE PERSON THAT IS WRITING THIS FANFICTION HAS A DISABILITY AND YOUR RUDE AND MEAN WORDS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS CYBER BULLYING DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE RUNNING THIS SITE DO NOT SEEM TO SEE THINGS THE SAME WAY. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE COMMENTS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TELLING OTHER WRITERS THAT THEIR FANFICTIONS ARE SO BAD THAT THEY SHOULD KILL THEMSELVES. WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE BEING SO MEAN AND CRUEL SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU DID NOT LIKE THE FANFICTION THAT YOU HAD BEEN READING? ISN'T THERE ENOUGH NEGATIVITY WITHOUT PEOPLE RESORTING TO BULLYING?
I MUST ASK THAT THOSE WITH NEGATIVE AND HURTFUL COMMENTS KEEP THEIR COMMENTS TO THEMSELVES. Lily Evans had been sitting by the river that ran past her house thinking about everything that her parents had just told her and her older sister Petunia. Even though Petunia had been the oldest out of the two sisters it had seemed that Lily was the one that the family had been hoping would inherit the family magic. Each of the members of the Evans family had sensed that there was something about Petunia that just would not work when it came to whether she should inherit the family magic and do whatever she possibly could to make her family rather proud of her. The problem was that each of the adults had known that this was something that they were not going to be able to control and if Petunia was in fact destined to inherit the magic then that was exactly what was going to be happening.
The truth about the Evans family magic had been kept a secret for the longest time. Since they had been living in a neighborhood that was completely full of muggles it was something that deep down Lily's mother had known would have to be done until Lily and Petunia were old enough to learn the truth about why certain things had been taking place. At the time it was obvious that the family magic could have easily gone to either of these girls which meant that there was absolutely no way that they would know these things until after one or the other had turned eleven years old. Even though Petunia had been hoping that she would be the one that was inheriting the family magic it was becoming obvious with each passing day that this was something that was not about to happen. Petunia was actually one year older than Lily and even though she had been showing signs of having a little magic there was absolutely no way that her magical abilities had been strong enough for her to start attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Petunia had started feeling rather jealous right from the moment that she had heard her parents and other family members talking about Lily and how they had honestly hoped that she would be able to show them that she was the one that they had honestly been waiting for. Lily had known that Petunia was bound to hear the things that their parents and other family members had been saying and when that happened trouble was definitely going to be starting. Trouble that Lily had not wanted to take place because regardless of the things that were happening Lily had honestly loved her older sister. Petunia had not seemed to notice these things which was something that Lily honestly could not understand throughout that entire time.
For a long time Lily had been attempting to do whatever she possibly could to help her older sister to practice her own magic and make sure that it had gotten stronger, at least strong enough for Petunia to realize that she could actually be strong enough to attend Hogwarts herself if she was only willing to do everything that she could to get her magic to the point where it was honestly supposed to be. Petunia, however, had not really seemed to be willing to work toward the things that she had always seemed to want, which had been to find a way to get their parents to realize that they could be just as proud of her as they had seemed to be whenever it came to Lily and her magical abilities. These things had only seemed to get worse once their newest neighbor had moved into the house across the street and he had seemed to become interested in Lily just the way that everyone else that was in the neighborhood had been doing for quite some time.
**********************
Severus Snape had known from the moment that he had moved into this house that his troubles with making friends was only going to get worse, especially since his mother had seemed to hate everyone that he had become friends with over the years. Severus could not really figure out a reason that his mother actually had for treating him the way that she always did for as long as he could possibly remember. The only thing that Severus could honestly remember his mother ever saying about him and the reason that she had treated him in the way that she did was that it had something to do with his father. She had never exactly gone into much detail about the things that had happened between her and his father, but Severus had been pretty sure that it definitely had been part of the reason that he had never seemed to be around during the times that Severus had felt that he was needed. There had been several different times when Severus had been attempting to ask his mother about the different members of their family that could have helped them during the times that Severus had been growing up and each time his mother had claimed that there had been absolutely nobody out there that had been willing to help them with anything because of the fact that his father had been a part of their life until he had learned the truth about who his mother actually was and what she had done.
Severus had not really given much thought to the things that his mother had told him about when it came to his father, but his mother had never thought about the fact that there just might be that one moment that Severus would need his father to be there regardless of how they had felt about each other during that time. It had been after Severus had been born it was completely obvious that his father was not going to be there for either of them especially after everything that had taken place when he had learned that the woman that he had fallen in love with and eventually had married was a witch and that she had somehow managed to use a rather powerful love potion on him during that time. The last time that Severus had heard anything about his father and the reason that he had left them all those years ago was during a time that his mother had told him that he was exactly like his father and that it would never have surprised her in any way that he would end up without the magical abilities that their family had often been so proud of. Severus had known exactly what his mother had been talking about when it came to the magical abilities and had decided that he was going to hide every bit of magic that he could from his mother knowing that she would never exactly understand the things that he was currently going through when it came to the people that he was attempting to become friends with.
When Severus had tried to get out of the way since his mother had claimed that she could handle all the things that had needed to be done when it came to moving in he had sensed that these were all things that were meant to happen for whatever reason. Even though he had hated the fact that his mother had insisted on leaving the town that Severus had grown up in and insisted that Severus say good-bye to his closest and dearest friends after everything that had happened during that time. Now that they were at their new house, however, Severus had realized that at least certain things were bound to change which was something that he was going to be dealing with throughout the entire time that they were living in this sleepy little town. He had not been quite sure if he would actually meet any new friends or even find someone that he would be able to spend time with that his mother would eventually approve of and stop giving him a rough time for the things that he was often doing. The minute that Severus had seen Lily come out of her house he had started thinking that she just might be one of the few people that he could become friends with that would eventually understand how important her friendship was to him and the reason that he was doing everything that he could to become the best friend that she had eventually ever had.
The minute that Severus had started walking over to where Lily had been sitting he had started to realize that she had seemed to be rather preoccupied with something and that attempting to introduce himself at that exact moment was probably something that was not the best idea. He had learned from previous experiences that whenever someone had something else on their mind, other than what they were supposed to be paying attention to, that they could often be rather distracted. The last thing that Severus had wanted to happen was for someone he was hoping to become friends with to become too distracted that they could not remember his name or the things that he had been telling them about himself and members of his family. He had been pretty sure that his neighbors had seen him and his mother moving in but at the same time there had really not been any kind of guarantees. All that Severus had really known throughout that entire time was that he was determined to make sure that his mother was unable to ruin the possibility that he was able to make a few new friends that would at least make the attempt to understand some of the terrible things that he had been dealing with for quite some time. Lily had seemed to be the kind of person that he could honestly see himself becoming friends with despite the fact that his mother had seemed to find problems with everyone that he had been friends with and he was pretty sure that this was something that just would never change no matter how much he had wanted them to do throughout that entire time.
After a few days of living in the house across the street from Lily and her family Severus had made the decision to walk over and introduce himself the next time that he had seen Lily spending time outside enjoying the sunshine the way that he had been doing since the day that he had moved into the house with his mother. Severus really had not been sure what to expect during the time that he would be spending with Lily and unfortunately her older sister. Severus had found out right from the very beginning that wherever Lily happened to be Petunia would not be very far behind. In some ways, Severus had wondered if Petunia had ever had any friends of her own since it had seemed that she was always spending time with Lily and whoever Lily just happened to be spending time with throughout that entire summer. Even though Severus had not exactly liked having Petunia around him and Lily all of the time he had done everything that he possibly could to talk to her and accept the fact that she would always be there whenever he was wanting to spend time talking to Lily about things that they might have found to be rather important throughout the entire time that they had been close friends. Petunia, however, had not seen things the same way and would often do whatever she could to keep Severus and Lily from talking to each other without her finding something out that she would be able to tell their parents about that might end up causing enough trouble for her sister that she would no longer be able to spend her time with the one person that she had honestly been able to become close friends with.
Over the short amount of time that Severus and Lily had been the best of friends it had seemed that Petunia's jealousy had been getting worse and worse. She would do certain things in order to cause trouble and then when it had become obvious just what she was attempting to do Lily had made sure that certain changes had ended up being made. Lily had known that Petunia had been asking for help in her own way and yet for whatever reason she had seemed to be determined to not accept the help that people had been offering her for the longest time. Even Lily had seemed to know that Petunia had often had a difficult time with making friends even among the many kids that were in their neighborhood because everyone had seemed to think that there was something rather strange about Petunia. Of course, Lily had often told her friends that her older sister was shy and that it was because of this shyness that her sister had often had a rough time making friends of any kind. After a while, however, even Lily had started to wonder what the reason was that Petunia had not seemed to be at least trying to make a few friends of her own. Even their parents had seemed to think that Petunia had needed to start attending a local school away from her younger sister so that she would at least stand a chance of making friends and would eventually stop spending her time spying on her younger sister and the kids that she was spending her time with.
Right from the moment that Petunia had seen that Lily was spending her time with Severus she had made a decision that she was going to do everything that she could to make sure that Severus would be more interested in becoming friends with her instead of spending the time with her younger sister. Severus, however, had been able to see almost right from the very beginning just what kind of friend Petunia would have been and that was something that he really did not want to have to deal with during the first few days that he had been living in the same neighborhood. Severus had found himself spending more and more time around Lily and hoped that Petunia would soon start to realize that there was absolutely nothing that she could do that would get Severus to want to be friends with her. The fact that she was often using her jealousy to cause problems was another thing that Severus had found himself thinking about and the truth was that Petunia had seemed to thrive on everything that she had been doing.
Throughout the next year when Lily had literally been doing everything that she could to help her older sister it had seemed that Petunia had found other things that she would complain about when it came to Lily's friendship with Severus. Petunia had always hated the fact that her sister was able to make friends easier than she ever had and now with the news that they had found out about the family magic it was obvious that people were always going to be looking at Petunia as if she was second best no matter what was happening throughout that entire time. Lily had known that these things were bothering her older sister but it had seemed that these things had not bothered her half as much as the things about the family magic had honestly seemed to be bothering her for quite some time. What had made matters even worse, however, was the fact that Lily had received a letter from the school that Petunia had wanted to attend since the day their parents had told them everything about their family's magical abilities. Petunia had then started using her jealousy of her younger sister even more and had seemed to want nothing more except for Lily to end up in some kind of serious trouble.
********************
On the day that Lily had first received her letter from Hogwarts it had been completely obvious that there was something rather special about her. Severus had started to notice these things right from the moment that he had met her which was something that he had stayed quiet about throughout the entire time that Petunia had been around them. Eventually Severus had taken a few minutes to tell Lily about everything he had learned from his mother about Hogwarts and that he had honestly had the feeling that they would end up attending the same school together despite the things that his mother had seemed to think about him during that time. Severus had known that he would eventually be receiving a letter from Hogwarts, but the truth was that he had no idea that his best friend would be receiving the same letter telling her that she had been accepted to the same school.
Throughout the majority of the summer Severus had been telling Lily all about the school he would be going to and the things that he had learned through all of the books that he had been reading when they had not been spending time together. Severus had never exactly needed to read anything about Hogwarts and the type of things that they would be teaching him once the school year had officially started, but it was something that he had chosen to do since he would be unable to spend every waking moment with Lily the way that he had honestly wanted to do. Deep down Severus had know that his mother would not exactly approve of the fact that he was friends with Lily and had magical abilities of her own that nobody else had seemed to know about except for those that she had been close to outside of her family. Severus, however, had known that Lily would want to know about these things so that when the time was right she would be prepared for just about anything that would be taking place, even if it meant that he would be taking a chance of losing the one person that had honestly been his best friend throughout the entire summer.
By the time that the end of August had finally arrived it had been Severus and his family that Lily had found herself spending time with when it came to getting the things that she would need throughout the school year. During the time that Lily had gone to Diagon Alley with her parents and with Severus and his mother Petunia had been left behind with one of the neighbors who had been told about the reason that Petunia was unable to join them on this particular shopping trip. Lily had been pretty sure that Petunia had not really understood the reason that these things were happening and for many other reasons Lily had wished that she could get her sister to realize that just because she was unable to do certain things did not mean that her family did not care about or love her for any reason. Of course, Petunia had not seemed to see things in the same way that Lily had and during the time that Lily had first received her letter from Hogwarts she had attempted to do everything that she could in order to get the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, to permit her to attend Hogwarts just the same way that Lily was going to be doing only to find out that there was absolutely nothing that could be done. This had only caused Petunia's jealousy to get even more out of hand and start treating her younger sister even worse than what she had done during that time.
Throughout the entire time that Lily had been on her shopping trip with her parents where she was able to spend more time talking to Severus it had seemed that Lily had honestly been thinking about everything that had happened during the summer. Petunia had been Lily's closest friend throughout the entire time that they had been growing up and for quite some time there had been no signs of the jealousy that Petunia was currently feeling just because Lily would be attending a school that their parents had always been talking about over the years. Severus had seemed to know that the separation from Petunia was something that Lily would have to get used to but there had been more to the things that were happening that Lily had never seemed to talk about throughout the entire time that they had been the best of friends. Lily had known that the majority of Petunia's jealousy had started around the time that Lily and Severus had become the best of friends. Lily had known that it was often rather difficult for Petunia to make a few friends of her own and it was because of that reason alone that Petunia would often do everything that she possibly could in order to spend time with Lily and her friends. When their parents had started telling Petunia that she had to make friends of her own everything had seemed to change and Petunia had been able to see it during that entire time. Now that Lily was the one that had proven to be the one that had made their parents proud of the fact that she was a witch Petunia knew that she would be expected to attend one of the local Muggle schools where she would be expected to forget about the magical abilities that she had been showing for quite some time.
During the time that Petunia had been staying with one of the neighbors while her sister and parents had gone to Diagon Alley in order to get the things that Lily was going to need for the school year the only thing that she had been able to do was think about the letter that she had written to Dumbledore begging him to let her attend Hogwarts with her younger sister. Petunia and Lily had never exactly been away from each other during the school year with the exceptions that they were often expected to take different classes since Petunia had been exactly one year older than Lily throughout the entire time that they had been in school together. Both girls had seemed to know that there just might be that one time when they would be attending different schools but it had only been Petunia that had seemed to find a problem with these things, especially after Lily and Severus had started becoming the close friends that they currently were. The neighbor who had been a woman in her early to mid thirties had tried to do whatever she possibly could to make Petunia feel better about the things that were currently taking place, but for whatever reason these things had not seemed to really help matters when you had considered that Petunia had been completely overlooked when it came to the family's magical abilities.
The fact that this particular neighbor had seemed to know about these things had been something that Petunia had been rather surprised about. She had known that there had been different members of her family that had heard about the fact that she had proven to be a bit of a disapointment and yet at the same time Petunia had found herself wondering if there was honestly any kind of reason that she would have been considered a disappointment to her family for that reason alone. At different times Petunia had wondered if she could honestly find people that would understand the things that she was currently going through and yet she had often found herself wishing that her parents had made the decision to make Lily stay home instead of allowing her to start attending Hogwarts the way she was going to be doing. Everyone that had known Lily and Petunia had already known that it was not going to take long before Petunia had realized that there was honestly something special about Lily and no matter how much she had wanted things to be different there was absolutely no way that these things would be happening the way that Petunia had honestly wanted them to happen regardless of the things that Lily had seemed to be so excited about during that entire time.
************************
When the summer holidays had come to an end Lily knew that it was almost time for her to start getting ready for her trip to Hogwarts which had always ended up with Lily feeling rather nervous. She was still dealing with Petunia and her jealousy every time that something had been brought up about Hogwarts or even Lily's current friendship with Severus. Lily knew that something was bound to happen that would cause bigger problems, especially when it came to Petunia and the jealousy that she had often been feeling. Most of the time that Lily had been waiting for September 1st to arrive she had been spending time with Severus hoping that there was someone out there that would eventually understand the things that she was dealing with whenever her parents had not been around.
Throughout the time that Lily had been talking to Severus she had learned that there had been a number of things that had been bothering her sister, and yet Petunia had refused to talk about the real reason that she had been feeling the amount of jealousy that she had always felt about her younger sister and her magical abilities. The fact that Petunia was currently attending a local public school was another thing that Petunia had often found herself thinking about as their parents had brought Lily to King's Cross Station where she would be getting on a train called "The Hogwarts Express" which would be bringing her to the school that she would be attending until the Christmas holidays had started. Deep down Petunia had felt that Lily had deserved everything that was happening and yet at the same time Petunia had hated the fact that she would no longer have her younger sister as her best friend. At least that had been the things that she had thought about for quite some time. Every time that Petunia had thought about these things she had also thought about how her parents had treated her throughout the entire time that Lily had been around. All that had seemed to matter to their parents was the fact that Lily had inherited the family magic and she would eventually be the one that would prove to their family that this was something that was meant to happen whether Petunia had used her jealousy to stop it or not.
While Petunia had been dealing with these things and eventually making every attempt to make a few friends at the school she was attending, Lily had been spending her time riding on a train and doing everything that she could to learn more about each of the houses that students would eventually be sorted into once they had gotten to Hogwarts. Severus had honestly hoped that Lily would be sorted into the same house that he was sorted into and yet at the same time he knew that there was no way of knowing these things until after everything had taken place. Severus had told Lily all about how important it was for the sorting ceremony to be taking place since it would let each of the new students know where they would be spending their free time when they were not attending the classes that they would need to complete before they were able to continue on to the following year. Severus had not realized that Lily was seriously considering everything that she had learned about the houses and just which house would honestly be the best for her during that time. Lily had sensed that Severus had wanted her to be sorted into the same house that he was in but at the same time it was obvious that there had been multiple reasons that some of these things had been taking place. Severus had never given much thought to the things that would be happening during the school year and that had included the things that would eventually be taking place once Lily had met James Potter and started spending time with him after classes.
Right from the very beginning Severus had sensed that Lily had been considering a number of different things and one of them just happened to be the fact that she was thinking about how Gryffindor was definitely a better house than any of the others that she had been hearing about during that time. Severus knew that if Lily had ended up being sorted into Gryffindor or even one of the other houses that there was a pretty good chance that he would end up losing his best friend which was something that he had not exactly wanted to happen. Lily might have been considering a different house during the time that they had been on the train but Severus had known right from the beginning that he was going to be sorted into a house that would eventually prove to be rather respectful of the talents that he had seemed to have throughout that entire time. The fact that he would eventually find his friendship with Lily coming to an end was something else that Severus had been thinking about. The last thing that he had honestly wanted to happen was for his friendship with Lily to come to an end but he also knew that if he was sorted into Slytherin the way that he had honestly believed would be happening that there would be absolutely no way that he would be able to remain friends with her once you had considered the fact that Slytherins and Gryffindors were not exactly permitted to associate with each other during certain times of the school year.
After Severus and Lily had gotten off of the train the first thing that they did was find their way to the boats that would be taking them across the lake to where the castle currently stood. Dumbledore was the one person that had been trusted to bring the first year students across the lake even though there had been several rumors that he would be taking over as headmaster in just a short amount of time. Severus had been hearing about these things from his mother even though there was no way that she would have been able to know about these things unless she had read about it somewhere in the wizarding newspaper The Daily Prophet. Either way, Severus knew that this was the last and final stop before he would find out exactly which house Lily would be sorted into and exactly what his future was bound to hold.
