First of all, this is a little crossover between Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Fate Stay Night, but of course, it will be RWBY in major parts. Any of the characters from the first 2 said series will not show up literally. I just planned to mixed in their names and abilities. So, you can be reassured that no one will be OP as hell. Most will be from the original cast of the show while some will come from the Lore of Remnant. A bit ambitious, I know but hey, it sounds interesting right?
Also, this is a redo of the story of RWBY: Knights of Old Remnant. Jaune Arc Chronicles. It was my first fanfic… and complete epic fail but I want to set things right this time.
Anger…
All I felt was anger. I did not expect that my service towards the throne and the country I loved be wasted like this. I stand with the people. I fight for my kingdom. I defend the weak. I am a knight… and yet, I was branded to be a traitor. Vilified by rumors desperately spread by people who were against me. History has a funny way of repeating itself. It always starts from the humblest of beginnings, one that everyone shares of course, but then when it reaches the very peak of power, it all goes crushing down. That is what happened to my country. This is my story, one that should not be uttered by foul tongues.
This outcome is unacceptable. Sickening to a degree, which infuriates me to the core. I have no god and yet here I am, finding myself to be somewhat praying to someone to put a stop to this madness. To stop the killing. I will not bow down my head and kneel to someone who only wants to rule and take. Better of me to be called the fool than to be something my heart stands against. I will not live my life with regrets, so…
Bleeding I stood, weaken I prepare, desperate I continue.
"The throne exists for the people" I said, "Your greed has led to the ruin of this great city!"
"I can say the same thing to you. I lead my people towards a new era and yet here you are, stopping the evolution of our race…" he patted what little dust from his armor, and threaten to end the fight right then and there. Well, if it was a fight. To him, it was a mere Childs play, "Why can't you see that it's our turn to rule, to seat along the throne of gods"
"What throne!? And Evolution? This is a massac—" with lightning speed, just with a single slash of his sword I was blown away like I was some kind of twig. Hoping for something soft, I instead got a stone pillar to catch me. To my worse fear, it also broke my left good arm. It was really hard to parry his attacks. His strength is monstrous. I'm not sure how many more can my sword take it but those tiny little crack on the both edges of Clarent were enough to hint it.
"Just a little more, partner. You've endured far worse than this"
"Enough! This will end now… You are just one person. An insect beneath my feet. I was a fool to ever think that you'd be worthy of your title. Such a waste…" Mustering what little strength I have left, what little power I have left. I refused to yield and let everything end. Bleeding I stood, weaken I prepare, desperate I strike, "I don't care what you think of me!" I barked, "Turning my fellow knights against me. Sacrificing my men! All of them are now laying on the ground or 6 feet below it, dead. All for your greed of power!"
"Greed is the reason why a King exist, child. A king must be greedier than the rest. How can I rule over my people if I was not such? You are merely a child and does not understand anything. You barely understand what a knight is and here you are calling yourself one"
I did what I can to stall for time but even time was not on my side. The Ritual is almost complete; the formation of the 6 towers has all been formed. I just need him to take one step out of the chamber and we win. If I die, then we lose, if the spell is casted, we lose. This is unacceptable! I just can't beat him. It is not about the age, I know. The gap between power and skills is just too great. He out shadows me by a mountain to a tree.
And yet, I find it oddly baffling…
If he was that of a threat to me? Then why in the hell is he toying with me? I kept on attacking him but the king simply shrugs them like I was a ragged thrown at him, or worse, thrash. What is he waiting for? Our duel of fate already destroyed the castle's interior…
Not unless…
Dawning like a thunder, my eyes went dangerously wide and I smiled like a madman.
"Don't you dare…" He said, getting in a fighting stance. I'm sure he knew what I just realized, "As entertaining to watch your despaired look, all things must end"
"Well said, your highness… Ain't that the truth…" I grinned.
With my right arm alone, I raised my sword, "By going against the rules of the throne you took! The code of chivalry by King Arthur! For your betrayal, for the countless of lives you taken, the families you destroyed, for my country that you set ablaze! You have been judged!"
The afternoon sky turned bright red. The ground trembled with the might of a thousand horses. The wind ran wild like storm in the seas. Activating my lone skill, with all the magic cores I absorbed, it starts.
Chapter 1: Press restart
"Good morning City of Vale, this is Lisa Lavender coming to you with the latest news. The council of Vale has decided this morning to entrust the responsibilities of the entire security of the coming Vytal festival to none other than General James Ironwood of Atlas. The unanimous decision has said to be base solely over his actions during the Breach of our very own city walls. Due to his swift early response when the attack happened left the damaged to the city to a minimum. The same for the number of lives that could have been lost if the Grimm were able to spread further within the City. The General has been receiving nothing but thanks, praises and support ever since then. More and more people and local forces has now pledge their cooperation with the General plans and its aim to protect the celebration.
The General, yesterday evening, spoke at the conference pledging the same full support of Atlas on the protection of a Vale as the two Kingdoms stands united. Adding more troops, the Atlas has sent more of their forces to Vale as the beginning of the Vytal Festival draws near. With such combined strength of the two kingdom, surely, nothing could go wrong."
Ruby, the cute little cookie monster of Beacon has been caught off guard. Overwhelmed by the surprised, the young girl had no other choice but to force a smile. Like a clockwork doll, her body stiffed and her mind went in a state of panic. Failing at it, she can only feel more embarrassed. The girl's urge to run off somewhere was stop when everyone literary encircled her and shouted…
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" they all shouted.
She hid in her hood, burning red, "Come on guys, I'm 16 and you're all still doing this!?"
Nora, who somehow escaped ren's clutches, replied… not after stealing a bite of the frosting from of the cake, "Well, it was Yang's idea and who can say no? It's a birthday party! Look at this cake!"
Weiss had a deadpan look, "You already ate half of the cake!"
"I meant look at the other cakes! Ren lost it and baked like a dozen of them!"
Somewhere in the back, Jaune only took one look at the guy, and knew exactly what happened, "She forced you? "
"She forced me"
Both team RWBY and JNPR were together at Vale celebrating the little occasion. Given the time off before the 2rd semester starts, they'd decided to hang out together before going back to school. Seeing the opportunity to eat out like kings and Queens sponsored by Wiess, they headed first to the nearest source of glorious but unhealthy food.
A Diner.
"You can't say no to this, besides I already paid for the place, if we cancel this celebration, it will be bad for me. A Schnee has an image to maintain"
"Geez, Wiess. Way to kill the mood" said Yang.
"I'm just saying…"
"Look everyone, really" Ruby interrupted, "I appreciate having great and awesome friends!" Ruby waved her hands comically at all of them, "Thanks for this, thanks for everything. You all really surprised me… but we really don't need to celebrate it like this"
"Well, what would you like to do for today?" asked Pyrrha.
"Go to a weapon convention?" asked Weiss.
"Ride bumble bee?" asked Yang.
"Play video games?" asked Jaune.
"Bake cookies?" asked Nora.
"Read books?" everyone looked at Blake, "What?" when no one replied, the answer was in the air, "I mean normal books, or comics!"
Everyone laughed at the byplay, "There's still time, we can still do all of those thing" said Pyrrha, "Are you okay with that Ruby?"
The girl let her hood down, relaxed and let out a sighed, "Thanks, but… I'd like to visit Mom. I haven't got the chance lately with all the lessons and… training" Ruby lied, and then tensed when she realized everyone's eyes were at her again.
"Hey we can d—" Ren interrupted Nora by smacking another spoon filled with cake, "Nora, no"
Yang tapped the table, "Well sure thing, sis. I just remembered… I… I had something important to do with Blake!"
"We do?" the kick under the table said yes, "I mean we do, something so important. More important than this book I was planning to read this afternoon"
Yang leaned in, and whispered to her sister, "I'm saving her from drowning herself in smut"
Wiess raised a hand as well, "I'll be heading to the CCT to call Winter. Now that I think about it, she was asking how's my studies are doing"
Jaune came next while motioning to his partner, "I promised Pyrrha I'd treat her out on a movie. To thank her for helping me in training and stuff"
Pyrrha simply nod happily with that. Judging from the bright smile on her face, she was beyond excited. No one dared to ruin that. So much for being obvious. Meanwhile, Ren and Nora… everyone looked for them only to find the missing two at the corner of the room. Ren had a lot of used plates on the left arm, and whole cake on the right. It was enough to explain what was going to happen and there is no need to make excuses for it.
Seeing Ruby off, the gang, before heading their separate ways, gathered up.
Weiss crossed her arms out, angry as usual, "This is crazy. We had a plan" she hissed," What happened to 'Do what will it takes to help Ruby'?"
Jaune waved everyone to calm down, "Yang, are you sure this is okay?"
"Yes… I'm more concern now than before" said Pyrrha, "It's only been 2 weeks since the breach of the walls. Ruby hasn't recovered—"
"Everyone relaxed" the older sister started, "We all know and had plans for today, I know. Stop breathing down my neck, Weiss" She scurried her away, "Look, we all agreed to do what we can to help Ruby. Our constant pampering and these special treatments are not going to work. She's 16 now, not 10. Ruby is not okay, I know, I'm her sister. I really want to help her but comparing it to what I want for her versus to what she wants to do" She shook her head.
"I'm not going to decide for her. She's growing up and right now, this is just one of the road bumps she is just trying to overcome"
Everyone relaxed for a bit but their faces still looked concerned.
"As much as it pains me to let her go like this… I…" she sighed, not wanting to continue, "Let Ruby decide for herself"
Blake pinched the bridged of her nose, "What if something bad happens?"
"Like what?"
"The White Fang attacking her? Seeking revenge for what she did?"
Jaune placed a hand over Blake, "Right now, I think everyone here knows what the worst thing that could happen"
The answer was in everyone's mouth, they just refused to say it. Ruby leaving Beacon…. Quit being a huntress. Yang clenched bot her hands tight that they went white.
"Then let her make the choice. We can't force her to keep doing something she won't be happy with. I refused to see her suffer any more of what happened. If she decides to quit, then it's better that way"
Somewhere in Vale…
The city has that effect, really. More developed and on the side of economic progress despite the ever growing population of the urban jungle. The city had more shops, business and malls than military outpost or any walls to divide social status. For someone new to this kind of jungle, it can inspire him or her to be brave. To be confident to try and succeed.
Sadly, it wasn't just that. It had a shadow. A big one that can only be seen by people who know what to look for. Anyone who is anyone can find the hints hidden in plain view and see what monsters lurks in the dark. Even the average citizen is giving that vibe. Discrimination and corruption, the sickness that plague the city.
No wonder the Grimm was able to breached the city. The negativity here is like the perfect recipe for the monsters. Good thing it got contained and stopped though. If it were not for Atlas military presents in the capital, things would not be like this. Otherwise, it would have been Mountain Glenn all over again.
Such was the problem for the entire kingdom. It doesn't have its own military. The one thing that stands to defend them were the Huntsman population. There may be a lot of them, though, it is understood as well that these people are still divided by their own allegiance. Unless you have the perfect government, you will still have to earn money to live. Sadly, slaying Grimm isn't one of highest paying jobs. For most of the huntsmen and huntresses, it was actually treated more of a community service.
Only few would pick their weapons up and stand for what is right and just. Only a few.
On the other side of Vale, a certain passenger plane landed not an hour ago carrying some of the passenger from Mistral. Witnessing such atmosphere though, a certain a tall, young woman, possibly in her thirties sipped her can of cold coffee and kept on walking while eating a bag of melon flavored bread, "So… this is Vale?"
Taking a quick look on the people's faces or mood, it was not like how she would have imagined it. The traveler is new to the city, yes, but she has not seen anything like it, really. Comparing again with Atlas, Mistral and god forbid, Vacuo, Vale is the worse.
"Its just like what he said… too many shadows" the woman whispered.
Taking a sip, she noticed someone waving from the distance right over the exit of the arrival section. The stranger had his hood of his jacket up, wore shades and a facemask. Despite that, it didn't take a minute for her instantly recognize the size and build of the man.
"Hey there" the big man greeted, "How was the flight?"
"Oh, it was fine, a bit bumpy than usual but otherwise, it was alright perhaps." The lady answered.
"Glad to hear that, here. Let me take those" He reached for the luggage, "I got the rooms ready for you. Do you want to have lunch first?"
The lady smiled lovely, but shook her head, "Sorry to arrive late Tukson"
"Hey, not a problem. I just waited for what? 20-30 minutes?"
"Well you still waited…" Taking a quick glance on the left and right, "Has he? He hasn't arrived yet?"
He nodded and gestured to follow him, "Yeah. I thought he'd be here first but its been 2 days already and here you are. First to arrive" he placed the bags down and checked the time, that was without making sure first no one was listening, "Wasn't the plan to meet at my house? The last time we checked in on one another, he was closer to Vale than you were"
"Well he is taking the journey on foot. And remember? If there's someone in need that came across his path…" gesturing for him to continue.
"He'd help them first and then continue…" he sighed and picked up the bags again, located his car and went off.
Feeling that the ghost was clear, the smile on woman's face disappeared, "How the situation here?", she asked her driver almost halfway towards the highway taking the busy traffic as an advantage.
"So far so good" he replied.
"Meaning?"
"It went according to plan. It went… too well" he said.
"They must have been too confident in the White Fang to be so trusting" the lady said but the man dismissed the comment, "Or the White Fang being expendable. Not trusting. These people don't know the meaning of trust"
She hummed at the thought, "Control through fear then?"
"To a degree… For the White Fang this is a one-time chance—"
"Which made them desperate" she interrupted.
"Very" he delightedly agreed, "Any ways, what do we do with him? Is he okay? I mean, if this is going to be something that delays our plans—"
"Relax, it won't" she waved her hand, voice uncaring if not tired, "He has goals to accomplish here. No matter the cause he will make everything work. He's like the living manifestation of destiny"
The man let it go and continued to focus on driving, "Fine… I read the newspaper this morning and watched the news too. He's good. Really good. Able to sneak pass even with a tight security personnel, even the surveillance cameras. Not a shadow, not a sound. If he wasn't who he is, he could be the best thief that ever lived!"
He kept on going about how skilled and great the person was but his lady companion wasn't exactly listening properly. In fact, she kept her eyes at the rear-view mirror, looking at him, finding a glimpse under the mask and the hood. Something didn't fit right, "Hey…" She called him, once the man leaned back to look at her, the lady quickly snatched the masked off his face.
Unfortunately for Tukson, he couldn't do anything about it. He made an attempt to take it back but she was seated at the back and he was still driving.
"Oh…" Not finding the right words to say, the woman winced painfully as if she could feeling what she is looking at, "Please tell me you didn't do this to yourself…"
He cleared his through and stared at the road, "You told us that your cover was blown but you never told us about that" she reached for his face, aiming to feel how bad the damage was but he caught her hand, "You didn't have to do this. Why go so far?"
"…." He hesitated a reply. Under the hood was a face. A face that was destroyed and if Remnants greatest and most specialized doctors has to say anything about it is that, the damage is beyond repairable. He lost his left eye as a massive claw mark lined or carved the flesh out from the left top of his forehead down across his face. A huge portion of the skin is gone and there were flesh missing as well as the lower jawbone peeked out of the wound. He looked like someone from a zombie movie.
"Answer me, Tukson" she asked again, angry this time. She even punched the man's arms.
"Those kids that tried to kill me were good. Professionals even. I tried to fight desperately and stage my death without hinting any trick but it wasn't easy. After the drug took effect and the blood flowed from the wounds thinking I was dead, they decided to looked around my place and made it look like a rubbery. They found nothing of course. I made sure to erase all and any evidence that I was in contact with you all. I made sure to destroy all leads and notes but there's one thing I had to make sure off…" He tugged the hood down and continued, "I had to make sure to erase my face and create a new identity. Changing only my name won't work. Whoever the White Fang is working with, they have a complete control of the criminal underworld here"
"You didn't have to do that! There could have been another way"
"Well it's too late to argue about this. I made it look like a Grimm did it" He tried to calm her down but failed. The lady was furious. The glare she gave him is fiercer than any Grimm he saw, "Besides…" he swallowed.
Pulling the car over for a second, he carefully explained, "I can't put the two of you in danger. I have complete utter faith on what you are trying to accomplish here in Vale. I hope the change you are aiming for is something that the White Fang can embrace. I thought the organization was the key for the equality for all human and Faunus kind but I was wrong. Ghira Belladona's White Fang embodied that fight… Not Sienna's… not my sister"
Pinching the bridge of her nose, frustration clearly visible, "I may be mad at you for what you did to yourself but just wait until 'he' sees you. I can already imagine what he'll do" she whispered.
"I can't say I approved of this. I know you are just thinking about us, for the change, but you won't get a 'thank you' from me"
Well that was better than nothing. Honestly, he doesn't need their forgiveness towards what happened on his face. He needs their help for what they can do. To stop what's about to happen to Vale.
"Come on. Let's go, we're burning day light here"
"Where are we going again?"
With her temper cooling down, she let out sighed and smiled sadly, "To visit an old friend"
At the lone hill with the greatest view of the horizon in Vale, Ruby sat alone on an isolated spot in between the path towards Beacon and the city. Content with the scene, silence and peace with nothing but the elements, our little huntress hugged her knees and started to break in tears.
Ruby really wanted to go back to patch and visit her mom but her legs refused to take another step.
"Hey mom… It's been a while" she whispered, wishing her mom sat beside her.
*Sniff*
She begged for her voice. All she wants was for someone to say something. Everything was a mess. Her heart ached and her mind is blurred. All there was left were the unchecked emotions. Ruby continued to cry alone, letting it out like a dam. Everything hurts, her soul, her eyes, her body. Everything seems to be swelling up and she couldn't stop it.
"People… A lot of p-people…" She further broke down, "They all died because of me!"
Still… no answer.
"I'm the leader… I was… was supposed to… I killed all of those people!"
The Breach had taken more lives than they'd thought it would. Team RWBY had accompanied Prof. Oobleck on a mission where the front of the task is to scour the ruins of Mt. Glenn but in truth, its objective is to find any hints of White Fang activity. To their luck, they were able to find what they came for, but that was all it. A luck which only struck once.
Upon realizing the entire plan of the violent extremist, they were too late as it all started before they even got the chance to call for help. Roman, for some reason, acted ahead of scheduled. The criminal started the entire operation where Ruby was forced to act on her own. The rest of her team along with the professor failed to get to the girl and got left behind at Mt. Glenn.
"How can I be a huntress!?" angry, she kept on going.
Ruby, though despite getting captured, did her very best and escaped her captors. She fought hard and long against the White Fang without her Crescent Rose but sadly it just wasn't enough. When the train hit the inner wall, the blast exceeded the expectation and took out almost the entire neighborhood. Adding to that, more of those stolen mechanized paladins wreak havoc on the people further stirring the negativity, the panic and the fear in everyone.
And then after that… the Grimm came.
When those monsters came, nothing could've stopped the ball from rolling. Almost ¼ of the City got infested by those creatures and as a result, hundreds of lives were lost. The reports went up to five hundred but media said it was more than that. Of course, thank the heavens for the small mercy, the Atlas military lead by General Ironwood was able to contain the attack. The spread of wide panic and chaos got stopped when the drones, the airships, the soldiers marched in pushing the Grimm back. After almost 3 hours of none stop offensive, the Breach was secured and the hole got finally sealed.
Even then, it was too late. The damage has been done, and the purpose behind it has been accomplished.
"A huntress is supposed to saved everyone but I failed. Too many died…"
A conference was held in result of the attack. The Headmaster of Beacon Academy did what he was best at doing. Stalling and swiping the entire mess under the rug. Prof. Ozpin, during the entire debacle, avoided all and any utter of first year students being sent for that mission. With his way with politics and words, the blame was only shot at the White Fang. He kept on insisting that such a plot couldn't have been stopped and that Beacon had done what they can with what little information they all had.
After the attack that was later named 'The Breach', Prof. Oobleck did his best and took all the responsibilities, all the fault at the said attack. True, he was the professional huntsman and that he should have acted more cautious with his students but it wasn't enough to correct anything anymore.
Ruby Rose kept on blaming herself for such failure. Thus, after 2 weeks, what came back from Mt. Glenn was not the energetic, optimistic, brave 15-year-old girl. It was broken Ruby Rose.
"I should have stayed… Like what I was told to... I caused this"
She begged… she kept begging for her mother voice. She wants to be wrapped by her arms again. Ruby didn't want to make her friends worry. It was a Huntress job to be strong and stand firm. To be a symbol of hope but right now, she is everything that is the opposite, "I am a failure…" she told herself, "I…" She breathe deeply and shouted, "I'm no huntress!" The girl did not know until when she can keep the face she wears around people but something tells her that it will not be for long.
Little did the poor sad, angry rose knew… Someone stood not too far from her. Who listened, who watched, who sympathizes with her. The words she spoke were just like his. Identical even, different in language but the same in meaning.
A teen who stood by over the trees, hiding, "Life often teaches us to adapt… it'll will enlighten you, empower you, but as time goes on… You will suddenly find that pain is greater. That lost is and will always will be the true teacher," he whispered.
The stranger stood there, watching. The girl in front sat in the ground lashing out and kept shouting her lungs out. Blaming herself repeatedly. Pity, he saw himself in that manner too. It was too much. When the girl took something from her pockets, he saw what was going to happen next.
Ruby raised her left arm and made a throwing gesture. Just before the point of that throw, a hand extended out and grabbed her arm.
"Quitting is not going to solve anything either" the stranger said.
Caught again by surprised, Ruby's eyes went wide and confused. The hand that grabbed her arms was small, including the actual person who just appeared out of nowhere. He was smaller but the strength of his grip was strong. He took the I.D from her and let her arm go.
"Ruby Rose… 1st Year Student of Beacon Academy. Huh, cute name" he said.
He held out a hand and smiled, "Nice to meet you, Ruby. I'm Oscar, Oscar Pine"
Just a brief opening, nothing major and action-packed events. A change from my usual errors but let me know if there's anything I did wrong. Seriously, please.
