Certain that the door had been locked and the windows had been fastened tight, it was a real shock that when Aina woke up the next morning, someone was in the bed with her.
A shriek of fear escaped her. Desperate to escape from the curtain of red that was devouring her alive; nearly smothering her to death, she rolled off the edge of the bed and into the floor. It hurt something awful, but Aina ignored it in search for the pepper spray in her side table drawer, only the bottle wasn't there.
"Chill out, babe; it's me."
She shot a glare at the blond in her bed. He chuckled, eyes barely open as he leaned off the edge of the bed to look at her.
"Text me next time, Kei. You nearly gave me a heart attack. I could have blinded you."
He chuckled again. "That's why I moved the pepper spray from your reach. And honestly, if you don't want someone coming in, you should stop leaving the spare key under the doormat."
Aina mostly left it for him to find – sometimes for her mother. The neighborhood she lived in wasn't too terrible, but for Keigo, she locked up every night before bed. He was a great hero; an even better lover, but even he admitted that he couldn't be around to protect her all the time. He rarely stayed the night – always busy doing his job – which is the reason she had been caught off guard this morning.
"Are you hungry? I can make you something before you leave." The clock on the side table read a little after 8.
Keigo faked a pout. "Do you not want me to stay? I'm hurt, babe. I thought you liked me."
"Such a drama queen," Aina said in a playful manner. Leaning up onto her knees, she rested against the edge of the bed and buried her fingers in his unruly hair. The two of them had been seeing each other for several months; of course, she liked him. "I'm just surprised is all. You're usually on the street this early in the morning."
He closed his eyes and hummed. "I agreed to a short break. Some of the other heroes wanted the early shift, so I dropped by around 1 to sleep over."
"You could have woken me," Aina stated with a gentle smile. He must have been tired.
Keigo opened his eyes. "But you're so cute when you sleep; mouth open like a little goldfish."
"And you snore like a bear," she grunted.
He laughed and scooted over, patting the mattress. Aina want to tell him no for teasing her, but honestly she couldn't. She felt tired as well; she may not be a hero, but long hours at work eventually caught up.
Retaking her spot, his wing devoured her again. The bright eyed girl chuckled and leaned against him, sliding her fingers back into his hair.
"So good to me," he mumbled softly. His tired eyes closed and moments later he was out cold.
Her heart felt heavy, but she smiled. He may not spend a lot of time with her because of his dream, but she didn't mind. It was the super soft moments like this that counted.
A sudden loud snore escaped him, making Aina pout.
I'd smother him with a pillow if he wasn't so sweet. No doubt about it.
