...Zelda! ...Zelda! You have to wake up.

Zelda could feel her entire body, floating in a shallow pool of deep blue elixir. Her long blonde hair curled around her waist, suspended in the thick liquid.

Zelda!

The voice whispered to her, a little more impatiently now. But she still couldn't regain her consciousness.

You must hurry!

It was a soft male voice. Her eyes fluttered open for a moment, and a searing light burned her pupils. She closed them again, drifting back to sleep.

Zelda! Please! I can't hold on much longer…

"Link!" Zelda exclaimed, jumping suddenly from the vat of elixir and wobbling as she regained her balance. Her legs prickled, unused to having weight put on them.

That's right. It's me, Link.

But who is Link? Zelda wondered. The name sounded so familiar, and she could tell the memories of him were just outside the grasp of her brain.

She took a few small steps forward, determined to escape from the dim, musty cavern she was trapped in. A faint glowing light emitted from a pedestal in the far corner of the room.

Use your Shekiah Slate…

She-what? Zelda wondered, annoyed.

On your hip…

Only then did Zelda notice she was only wearing underwear. She gasped and quickly removed the stone tablet secured with a belt to her side.

Put it in the slot…

Link prompted. She obeyed, placing the slate in a crevice in the podium. A bright orange glow flashed through the room as a map of Hyrule appeared, etched in the stone tablet.

Without being told she continued through the cavern, kicking open two identical wooden chests with her bare foot. She pulled a ragged shirt and a pair of dirty pants from them, dawning them hesitantly.

She soon came to a towering wall of stone.

Climb it…

She did, and to her surprise, it was rather easy. "Wow," she muttered to herself. Her footsteps echoed through the hall as she approached another podium.

She placed her Shekiah Slate in its place without being told.

The door in front of her slid slowly open, the warm morning glow sifting through the opening. She sheltered her eyes from the stinging, but beautiful, light.

Zelda sighed in delight as the ravishing kingdom of Hyrule spread out before her. An inviting warmth hit her skin. Insects chirped and birds sang. She felt a strong feeling of happiness burst out inside of her.

She ran up to a jutting outlook in front of her where she could see the whole kingdom. As she breathed in the clear fresh air, Zelda surveyed the world around her. Life seemed to continue in slow motion.

Zelda… You are destined to become a hero… Protect Hyrule…

...My love...
