"Damn," Jamie let the curtain drop back into place, "Its STILL raining."
It was going on the third straight day of showers for the city.
He stuck his hands in the pockets of his sweatpants, turning away from the window to avoid the chill. Family dinner was canceled for the first time in a few years due to all of New York getting washed out. Jamie and Eddie were hunkered down in the East Village, Danny and Sean in Staten Island, Erin in Park Slope, and Frank and Henry in Bay Ridge.
Eddie walked up from behind him and took a peek out the window herself, "Personally, I like the rain but not three full days of it. And I was really looking forward to Henry's stew! Perfect food for weather like this."
"Do you want me to try and make it for you?" he smirked knowing what her answer would be.
She looked up at him, "You and I both know that neither of us are the best cooks. Let's just stick to picking up some Chinese later."
He nodded in agreement, "Okay."
She grabbed his hand and led him back to sit on the couch, "So, what should we watch now? I think we've binged everything on Netflix in these past few days."
He grabbed the remote and flipped through the movies, "I saw one on here earlier that I thought looked interesting. I think it was called "No Escape" or something like that."
"There it is!" she called out grabbing his wrist, "You just missed it."
He went back up and chose it.
"What's it about?" she asked.
Eddie read off the screen, "An American businessman and his young family arrive in Southeast Asia to begin a new life. As his company plans to improve the region's water quality, the family quickly learns that they're right in the middle of a political uprising. Armed rebels attack the hotel where they're staying, ordered to kill any foreigners that they encounter. Amid utter chaos, the young businessman must find a way to save himself and his loved ones from the violence erupting all around them."
"Wanna watch it?" he asked. She nodded and he pressed play.
An hour and half later, the credits started to roll as Jamie switched the T.V. off. He pulled the blanket a little tighter over the two of them and leaned back.
"That was really good. I didn't think I was going to like it because of the first few minutes," he nudged her, "What'd you think?"
"It's crazy that those things actually happen," she said looking up at him, "Fortunately, we've never been in those situations. But it does make you see how far a person would go to protect their family. I mean, we don't have kids, but I know if someone jumped at my kid the way that rebel guy did, I wouldn't even think twice about taking him out. No freaking way."
He pulled her in closer to him, "I don't think anyone would, Eddie. My gosh, when Nicky was born, I was so protective of her. Me, Danny, and Joe. We were just waiting for someone to look at her the wrong way or to hurt her. Same thing with Jack and Sean. They're not my kids but man, I'd fight to the death to protect them. Those three brought out a protective surge in me that I never knew I had."
She nodded, "That guy just shot the rebel man like it was nothing. No emotion, no remorse, nothing. The few times I've had to fire my weapon on the job, I've always felt guilty."
"Which is completely normal. Nobody ever wants to take a life," he interjected. "But the difference between you and that guy is that he was fighting to survive. Those rebels were trying to hurt him and his family's chance at survival. Honestly, there's no limits when it comes to that. If someone was trying to hurt you or our kids, I wouldn't have to think twice about taking them out. Your safety has always been my top priority."
She looked down and picked at the fuzz of his sweatpants, "I know. That's what I'm really glad I have you Reagan, because you've always protected me, even when you didn't have to." She looked up at him, "I hope you know that I'll always do everything in my power to protect you, no matter what."
He rubbed her shoulder, "I do know that. You've proven it to me everyday."
She planted a kiss on his cheek, "Good."
They sat back on the couch enjoying the sound of the rain for a few minutes before Eddie spoke up, "Can you go pick up dinner now? I'm really hungry."
He patted her leg and stood up, "Extra spring rolls?"
"When don't I want extra rolls?"
He shook his head and walked towards the door, "Duly noted. I don't know why I even ask anymore."
She grinned at him, "I love you!"
He winked at her, "I love you too."
I hope you enjoyed! Always taking requests. Please review!
