A/N: This is a retelling of a one-shot I did on one of my OCs. This is based on Chief AKA Arlong the Black and it takes place during the "Void Century". I hope all of you will like it. I do not own One Piece! That will always belong to Eiichiro Oda! I only own my OC, Chief.
The rain was coming down in sheets mixing with the blood of the dead that littered the rocky shore as thunder boomed and lightning flashed across the sky. Arlong the Black, chieftain of the Shark Clan stood a few hundred feet from his warriors. Standing 9 ½ foot tall he was a giant powerful black sawtooth shark with arms roped with muscle and decorated with Tribal tattoos. His long grey hair was braided with brightly colored beads and around his neck, he wore a gator and crocodile tooth necklace. He wore loose-fitting tan pants and gator skinned vest that was adorned with beads. Dark eyes scanned the dead that was scattered along the shoreline, Fish-men, and humans.
Why? he asked himself as he felt the loss of pain growing in his heart. Why are they doing this? We have done nothing for this to have happened
The Tenryuubito had come to his island home without reason began slaughtering not only members of his clan, but other the clans that lived on Fish-men Island. It angered the shark clan chieftain as word spread throughout their island home of families that were torn apart, their loved ones slain for no reason. It happened not only to his clan but to the other different clans that made up the Fishman race and even the merfolk fell victim to these cruel humans. Finally, Arlong declared war on their enemies vowing to make them pay for what they had done. Hearing of what the shark clan chieftain planned to do, the other clans were, soon joined him and together they left their homeland chasing their enemies to the very island they now fought on. For two months they warred with both sides gaining nothing as the losses grew.
"Chief?"
Arlong turned his head slightly as one of his clan brothers slowly approached him. The blue shark had a bloody bandage over his left eye, and he was covered with scars. Seeing that the chieftain heaved a mighty sigh before he placed a hand on the other's shoulder. "My friend do you wish to continue this foolish war?" he asked.
"As long as I have breath in my body", the blue said. "I will continue this fight."
"Do the others feel the same?"
"Chief, you know they do."
He feared that. He knew if they continued this war, they would eventually lose, and all would be lost. He reached up his fingers to caress his necklace as his thoughts drifted to his beloved wife and their precious three-year-old daughter. What would become of them or any of their people if they failed? He shuddered at the thought and images that flashed through his mind and slowly the one and the only choice came to him. "What is your name, brother?" Arlong asked.
"Taran."
Arlong nodded as he removed his necklace and placing it in the blue's hand. "You are to take this and the others back home," he said closing the other shark's fingers over the item.
Taran looked him his good eye widen in sudden realization. "Chief, I can't do as you ask."
"You can and you will," Arlong said in a stern and commanding tone. "Do you understand?"
Taran nodded struggling not to show emotion and failing at it. The shark clan chieftain pulled the blue into a fierce embrace before releasing him. Knowing he had been dismissed, the other shark man turned and with a heavy heart walk away. The shark clan leader watched him go before he walked down the shoreline toward his destiny.

All the enemy camp lay asleep when Arlong slipped in under the cover of darkness. He carried a Naginata double blade with blades that were 14" long and the weapon was designed to come apart. With skill he gained over his years the sawtooth moved in silence as he went to the tent where the Ternryuubito lay sleeping slipping inside. There were three of them and the black saw shark killed the first two so quick that they didn't have a chance to wake. He would have done the last one if the man hadn't suddenly woke up with a snort and at the sight of the shark man he screamed. Arlong had hoped he could have finished them all without alerting the entire camp but that was now impossible. With his Naginata in both his hands, he readied himself for what he knew would be his final fight just as the first wave of defenders came into the tent. Blood splattered the inside walls of the tent the saw shark hurled himself head into his enemies. The giant of a sawtooth drove his enemies back as the storm that had come had suddenly intensified as the lone fish-man faced impossible odds. Blood mixed with mud as the battle raged.
As the surviving Ternryuubito watched, the shark chieftain was slowly cutting his way to him and he began to sweat in cold fear. Arlong was in fury mode and nothing or no one was going to stop him from achieving his goal. The man turned and ran for his life, but it was a costly mistake because he found himself at the edge of an overhanging cliff and there was nowhere else to run. He turned around paling in pure absolute fear at the very sight of the bloodied figure that was his enemy. The black shark was a nightmare sight to behold his body been pierced with arrows, cuts and slashes from swords and spears covered him from head to toes. The clan chieftain paused as he reached for the spear that was deep in his chest and broke the shaft as if it was nothing. Though his steps were wobbly he moved forward steadily.
"Please," the Ternryuubito said clasping his hands together and shaking like a leaf in the wind. "Let me go and I swear, we will leave your people alone!"
The shark chieftain looked at him for the longest time as his blood ran from his wounds and dripping from his fingers. Slowly he moved aside which would allow the man to pass him. "Ternryuubito", he rasped out. The man paused to look at him. "I never said you could leave."
The last thing the man ever saw was the flash of lightning that seemed to make the fearsome teeth of the sawtooth flash as if they were made of metal.
The storm passed giving way to the dawn that came. Arlong staggered to the shoreline and to the sight of the rising sun. Dying, the Fishman slowly made it back to the rocks that had marked their abandoned camp. With what little strength he had left, the shark clan leader sank to his knees before resting back against the rocks. The first rays on the sun-kissed him but he didn't feel it nor feel the cool spray of the sea as it splashed against the rocky shore. Arlong the Black, chieftain of the shark clan and hero to his people, had finally gone to the home of his ancestors.
Taran with a few others of their band would find him later only to discover the disgrace that had been done to him. Those of the Ternryuubito family had arrived with their slaves and soldiers to aid their family members only to find them all slain. They searched the shoreline and found the deceased sawtooth and, in their revenge, they cut his nose off knowing that was the very pride of any male sawtooth and sliced part of the flesh away from his chest. His nose was forged into a dirk that was known as Bite of the Shark which would be passed down through human lineage until it would one day be recovered by the Fishman race after a battle.
Arlong the Black was taken back to his beloved clan who mourned the loss of their chieftain. His burial was overseen by the elders of the clan and one of the elders would later return alone. It was this elder who used very ancient and forbidden magic to place a spell upon Arlong the Black's resting place with the words etched on the wall. When what was taken returned and made whole shall the great chieftain awaken once more. Words that were sadly forgotten by the generations that followed and the very name of Arlong the Black would soon be lost and forgotten as would his great final heroic battle for his people.
