Hi, this is my first story on and has been a project of mine since I was eleven years old. I've always had an idea that made Link more of a villain while still being the hero of Hyrule. And, what game better for this story than my favorite LoZ game Twilight Princess?
For now, I want to try to update at least once a month if not more and slowly build from there. Also, let it be known that I am only just starting to write this first story. I wrote half of the squeal instead for some reason. Anyway, let's dive right into my new story!
Chapter One
"Have you ever felt a strange sadness as dusk falls?" Two men sat in the sand by the edge of the spring's water when the older of the two broke the evening's silence. Link turned to his mentor and shrugged not knowing how to respond to such a question. The man, Rusl, continued, "They say it's the only time ourworld intersects with theirs... The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of the spirits who have left our world...That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight." Rusl ended his strange speech with a sigh and before shaking his head a bit as if to rid himself of a bad memory.
Link decided not to respond feeling that this was the sort of time where it was expected to just listen silently. "But enough talk of sadness...I have a favor to ask of you, Link." He perked up at the statement immediately. Though he wasn't the biggest fan of doing other people's chores he was pretty interested in what he might be able to get from it. Rusl chuckled at the boy, "I was supposed to deliver something to the royal family of Hyrule the day after tomorrow. It was a task set to me by the mayor, but...would you go in my stead?" Link's eyes widened in surprise. He had expected to be asked to babysit Colin or something of that variety, not this!
"This has got to be a joke!" Link said, throwing his arms up in protest and laughing a bit, "Me in Hyrule? You know I swore to never set foot in the terrible land again!" Rusl stared at the hysterical teen, "I know you did, but hear me out I'm worried about leaving Uli by herself when she's so close to having her baby." Link growled, "But why me?!" The man smiled, "Who else?" He paused his anger for a moment before his gaze softened. "You do have a point…" Rusl nodded, "Right now you're the best person for this task. I know you vowed to not go there after what happened when you were a child, but please." He sighed while running his fingers through his hair trying to choose his words.
He looked at Rusl's pleading gaze and found that he couldn't say no despite wanting to. "Fine," Link said in an annoyed tone and crossed his arms, "But I won't like it!" His mentor smiled cheerfully at Link's decision, "Attaboy!" The man clapped him on the back, "Besides, it's just a few days. You'll be back before you know it!" Link rolled his eyes at that, "Easy for you to say. You're not the one who's going to have to ride all the way to Castle Town and back." The man chuckled at his complaints before turning his gaze to the sky. The two of them hadn't noticed how dark it was getting until just now. Though the sun was almost gone, the spring's water still seemed to hold some sunset colors in it's reflection. Rusl stood and began brushing the sand from his pants, "It's getting late...We should head back to the village. I will talk to the mayor about this matter."
Link followed suit and went to retrieve Epona from the other side of the spring where she was enjoying a nice drink of water after a hard day's work. He checked to make sure the firewood they had cut was secured well onto the mare's back. Everything seems to be in check, Link finished his inspection and grabbed her reins. With a smile he patted her nose with his free hand, "Good girl Epona. Thanks for helping us carry all this stuff." He turned around and led her back to where Rusl was waiting patiently for them.
They both walked home in silence. By the time they reached the small little clearing that held Link's house it was almost completely dark. Link himself was quite tired and it was showing on his face.
Link began helping take the wood off Epona's back when a yawn interrupted him. Rusl took note of the boy's tiredness and shook his head, "How about you just go rest up Link. I can handle the rest of this by myself." He looked at the man and stifled another yawn, "I'm fine, I'm not a baby." "No, I insist. You'll need all your strength when the time comes for you to go to Castle Town to meet with the royal family." Rusl gave Link a look that told him that his stubbornness would not be tolerated.
He rolled his eyes and shrugged, "Suit yourself." He walked away to the ladder where he climbed up. "Tell everyone I said goodnight!" With one last smile he went inside and slammed the door closed.
Bless the goddesses, Why was Rusl treating him like a child? I guess he just wants me to look decent in front of the royals. Link lit the fire in the fireplace and threw some broth in the pot hanging above it. After searching for a minute he found all the ingredients for the pumpkin soup he was going to make for dinner. He already had extra pumpkin ready in a jar from yesterday so he dumped it into the pot and stirred into the broth. Now there wouldn't be much else left to do besides add a few spices. Link opened a few small containers and added a pinch or two each.
Link watched as it boiled with a stressed expression on his face. Why in the world did I agree? Now I have to force myself outside my comfort zone and it's all my stupid fault. He held his head in his hands and growled in frustration. I should have just said no! No, I owe him more for what he did.
Soon the soup was down he was able to pour it into a small wooden bowl. He wasn't in the mood to go find a spoon so he decided to drink it instead. Ignoring the burning sensation, he finished it so quickly that he barely tasted it.
After he was done he climbed up a couple of ladders to his bedroom. Jumping into his bed he smiled. Two days left, He thought to himself, Two days left. Link sighed and let himself fall into a deep sleep for one of the last time's before his trip.
Thanks for reading this chapter!
