Diesen Traum hatte er oft und jedes Mal starb Christopher auf eine andere Art und Weise. Buck konnte nach diesem Albtraum auch nie wieder einschlafen. Er versuchte sich jedes Mal einzureden, dass alles in Ordnung sei, dass es Christopher gut ging, aber dies klappte nicht immer. Eddie hasste ihn. Der Tsunami folgte und, als er endlich einsah, dass „leichtere" Tätigkeiten unter Umständen gar nicht so schlimm waren, musste ihm dieser schleimiger Anwalt Chase Mackey die Idee einer Klage vor die Nase setzen. Als wäre das alles noch nicht genug war es auch noch Bobby, der ihn darin hinderte zurückzukehren. Wegen seiner eigenen Dummheit hielt er es zu diesem Zeitpunkt für das Beste, die Stadt, die Feuerwache und Bobby zu verklagen. Die Zeit während des Klageverfahrens war die schlimmste für ihn. Er hatte niemanden. Er fühlte sich einsam. Es saß oft in seiner Wohnung - wo sollte er auch hin, alle hassten ihn - und lies den Gedanken freien lauf. Es dauerte noch ein paar Wochen bis er seinen Fehler einsah. Die Stadt wollte einen Vergleich schließen, er selbst wollte jedoch nur wieder zurück in die Arbeitswelt und als Feuerwehrmann Leben class="Apple-converted-space" /span/span/p

Hen und Chimney waren die ersten, die mit ihm redeten. Halloween war auch der Tag, an dem er begann Bobby richtig zu verstehen. Sicher, in der Vergangenheit kam es bei Einsätzen hin und wieder zu kleineren Verletzungen, aber aufgrund der Gerinnungshemmer waren diese kleineren Verletzungen eben nicht mehr ganz so class="Apple-converted-space" /span/span/p

Bobby war Bucks Notfallkontakt und natürlich mussten sie diesen über die Situation informieren. Als dieser am nächsten Morgen im Krankenhaus eintraf, malte sich Bobby bereits das schlimmste aus. Buck erklärte ihm kurz, dass er sich ein paar Schnitte am Unterarm zugeführt hatte, als er der Person in der Windschutzscheibe half. Bobby verstand dann, dass die Uniform, die Buck während der Arbeit trug, keine Uniform, nein nicht einmal ein Kostüm für ihn war; Buck war so. Er trug sein Herz am rechten Fleck und half jedem und überall ohne sich um sich selbst zu kümmern. Buck war durch und durch gut./span/p
