Knock.. knock..
The sound of the door knocked from the outside of the Chief Representative's Office.
"Come in!" Cagalli said.
A tall and dark skinned man entered the office room. He looked at the person behind the table inside the room, she still focused on the paperwork in front of her.
"What's up Kisaka?" she asked, still looking at her paperwork, didn't bother to look at the person who just entered her office.
"You are supposed to meet the new Admiral tomorrow, however he is asking to see you now."
"Hmm, is it urgent?" Still not looking at him.
"Probably, actually I don't know, he just came and asked to meet you now. You can ask him directly though." Kisaka tried to secure his voice so she didn't catch any glimpse of a smile in his voice.
"Hmm, weird, you always knew. Alright, because I need to finish signing all of this paperwork this evening, maybe he can wait for a moment? You can send him in after 15 minutes." Still not looking at the person who talked to her.
Yes, Cagalli Yula Athha was so drawn to her work. After the second war ended a month ago, she tended to overwork herself. Not even wanted to be separated from it even for a second. Sometimes it felt like she was just avoiding social activities around her. After meetings with other reps, she just directly went to her home office and then read all the proposals or paperworks that had been waiting to be read or signed. She rarely ate meals thrice a day. Usually it is just twice or even once a day. She looked so thin and pale. Mana already told her to look after her health. However you know how stubborn she could be. Kisaka felt disappointed, she was just 19, however she worked hard everyday because she thought it was her duty alone, not only that, it seemed she also distanced herself from many people. She was not as cheerful as before. Her eyes seem so dull, not fiery like it used to be. The second war really had her. As her only aide, he knew he couldn't do much to convince her to look after herself. Kisaka sighed as he walked out of the room, he hoped the new admiral, at least, can make her look away from the paperwork.
15 minutes later, there was another knock on Cagalli's office. As she sighed, she told the guest to come in, still not looking at the guest, because the paperwork she worked on still not finished yet.
"So, do you want to report something? Or is there something urgent to tell? I've heard that you're supposed to be visiting tomorrow but you asked to visit today." She asked the admiral, still drawn to the paperwork in front of her eyes.
"Yes, it's kind of urgent Lady Athha. I really think that the sooner I talk to you is better. "
She froze at the voice, she knew this voice. However, she didn't believe what she heard. He is supposed to be at PLANTs. She wasn't brave enough to see the person in front of her. She was afraid that when she looked at the person it would be really him. So, after a few seconds of thinking what she was supposed to do. She asked again, yes still not looking at the person she talked to.
"Alright then, you can tell me. This paperwork still has to finish this evening. So if you want to tell me anything, just tell me. I'm listening."
"I think it is rude to not look at the person you are talking with, right Lady Athha?"
"Well, I think you didn't have any position to say that to me, don't you think?" Still looking at the paperwork, her voice was slightly angry with the new admiral. Well, only some people will talk like that to her, and now she was sure that this person is the person she thought he was. Yes, he is Athrun Zala. One of many people that will easily talk like that to her.
"Cagalli, are you really willing to avoid me for the rest of our lives?"
She was surprised. To be honest, she didn't think she could avoid him forever. However, she didn't really want to meet him right now. When she didn't prepare enough. She didn't know what to say yet. Silent filled the air, until Athrun broke it.
"Are you really willing to?" Athrun asked again.
After a few seconds of another silence, for the first time in this entire evening she looked at the person who talked to her.
"Fine, let's talk, but I really have to finish this today. Can we talk some other time?"
"No, it has to be today."
He sounded firm, he didn't want to procrastinate this any longer. The Archangel crew, including him, arrived at ORB two weeks ago. He tried to communicate with Cagalli as soon as he arrived, but whenever he called the office, she was always not there or she was too busy to pick up calls from him, her secretary said. Until one day, he met Kisaka at Morgenroete and he told him that actually Cagalli had been avoiding too much social interaction these days. Kisaka didn't know why for sure, but she seemed to close herself from the outside interaction. She was too drawn to her work, which made her neglect her health. Athrun didn't like it one bit. He decided to confront her as soon as possible, well of course not only that, there were other things that they had to discuss also.
"Why?" she asked him.
"Because you know we need to talk and avoid me or in this case everyone, will not solve anything, Cagalli.
Cagalli looked at the man in front of her. Before the second war, she never thought their relationship would be strained this way. They were not the type of lovey dovey couple like Kira and Lacus. They even tend to keep the relationship to themselves. Of course people close to them know about them, but it was not like they announced it to the whole world with some kind of public display of affection or anything. She believed, what they had was something precious, something that she believed would lead to a future. Well, in reality not every story is a fairy tale. She never believed in fairy tales before and now she was sure that she would never believe it. Not after everything happened at the second war. Fairytale and happily ever after just never exist in the first place. She thought he looked just the same as the last time she saw him two months ago before the Archangel went to the space to destroy the requiem. He looked troubled, she knew. Two years of practice, she just knew, he didn't feel right, but this time was not only him. She was troubled too. After many thoughts and much more on pregnant silence.
Cagalli sighed again and said, "Alright, how about tonight? I really need to finish this, really."
"Dinner then?" Athrun asked.
"Alright." She answered, not really sure about what would happen later.
"I'll pick you up from the manor at 7p.m." He informed her.
"Okay." She answered him again, without any emotion. Before she could turn her head again to the paperwork in front of her. Athrun had come closer to her and to her surprise he hugged her, tightly. She didn't hug back though. She couldn't process what just happened. She knew that Athrun had a tendency to hug her when he had something on his mind. However, this time, she couldn't tell what happened, their relationship was too complicated now in her opinion. Before she came back to her senses, Athrun already let go of the embrace and then he turned to the door, leaving the ORB leader in disbelief.
"Sophie. I'm done for today. Can you send this to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office today? It's due the day after tomorrow for the treaty in Scandinavia, I want the revised version on my desk tomorrow before noon."
"Yes, Lady Athha."
"Thank you."
Sophie McNair has been her new assigned secretary since a month ago, a coordinator. So effective in working under pressure and a deadline. Never asked her about personal affairs. Cagalli really appreciated her works and was grateful for her intelligence. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, sometimes she reminded her of Mwu La Fllaga
"Do you need anything else, Lady Athha?" Sophie asked her, without much expression in her voice, just a duty.
"No, you can go home Sophie."
"Thank you Lady, have a good day."
"Yes, you too."
"Myrna, you don't have to cook me dinner for today. I'm going out with a friend." She informed her. She didn't want any food to waste, since she was going to dinner out with Athrun.
"Okay Cagalli-sama, but why?"
"Well, I will have dinner outside today."
"With Athrun-sama?"
"Eh? Why do you ask that?" she was surprised, how can Myrna asked something so sharp just like that. Sometimes she wondered if Myrna had some kind of superpowers to read others' minds.
"No, it's just a hunch. Wow, I'm so happy. Finally, you were going out again!"
"Yeah, I'm not that unsociable though Myrna."
"Well, not from what I can observe this past month."
"Alright. Whatever." She didn't bother to argue with Myrna right now
"Do you need to dress up or something? I can prepare some dresses for you."
"No, of course not! It's alright. I just need something casual. Not a fancy dinner."
"Are you sure Cagalli-sama? This date will be special right? Since you two haven't seen each other for a while. He is your fiance after all. If just that purple haired man did-"
"Myrna, please stop, it is not a date and he is not my-"
Ding dong, the front bell was ringing.
"I think he is here already, I will open the door." Myrna walked toward the front door excitedly. Cagalli wondered again if Myrna was really fond of Athrun, because everyday, since he went to PLANTs, she never had a day passed without talking about Athrun.
"Athrun-sama! It's really you! Ah, finally! I'm so happy to meet you again. I thought you will never come back, you know because of that purple haired jerk, so unfortunate, she was really upset, but you come back! Thank you for asking her out again! It has been a long time since the last time she went out!"
Athrun was surprised with Myrna's welcoming rant. A bit upset about the past she had mentioned too, but he tried to conceal it.
"Hello Myrna. Thanks for the update though. Is it really that long?"
"Oh, well since she came back from the disastrous wedding. She rarely ate properly. Oftenly she just passed out in her bedroom after coming home. Not bothering with any breakfast, sometimes too tired to eat dinner. Found her sleeping on paperworks was not something rare anymore. She also seems to be distant from people. I don't know, I'm sad seeing her like that. I tried to make her eat though, she almost fainted last week, So I kind of forced her to eat and I warned her that I would throw out all her pants and made her wear a dress everyday if she didn't listen. It worked! And today I'm really happy, she came home at five and she said that she is going out with a friend."
"Thank you Myrna. For taking care of her." He smiled at Myrna, he was really thankful though, he knew that Cagalli was a stubborn person, but Myrna had her own way to make Cagalli listen to her. One of the best traits Myrna has and is compatible with the princess.
"You know, she was really sad Athrun-sama, she was depressed when she had to marry that purple-haired annoying man, a moron he is. I've never been so sad in my life seeing her like that. Thankfully Kira-sama came at the perfect time, I will never forgive my-."
"Enough of the story Myrna or you will make him sleep. Let's go Athrun!" Cagalli came and stopped Myrna from telling another long story of her life, like she didn't know that it was embarrassing enough. She sighed in relief when Myrna stopped.
"See you Cagalli-sama, Athrun-sama! Have a nice date."
"It's not a date Myrna!"
They walked to Athrun's black sports car, after Myrna had closed the front door of the manor.
"So, where do you want to eat?" Athrun asked when both of them were already inside his black sports car.
"Anything is fine." She answered.
"Alright, I think I have an idea."
They rode the car in silence. Both of them were not a very talkative person, well she was in the past, but since she became the head representative she tried to press herself. Besides that, both of them are afraid of what they said will affect each other badly. After a half an hour ride, they arrived in a place, a small diner, but full of memories.
"We're here. Here, wear this. It would suffice."
"But Athrun, this place-, people will-" Athrun gave her a shade. She took it and immediately wore it.
"That is why I brought shades." He also put shades on his eyes, hiding his emerald orbs.
"Let's go." He asked her
They went to a small diner. Not a fancy restaurant she had in mind. A place for a talk, a comfortable one. Instead he brought her here. Her favorite place.
"Two kebabs with chili sauce please." He told the waiter and then the waiter went to the kitchen. Both of them sat down silently. Until Cagalli broke the silence.
"Athrun?" Cagalli asked.
"Yes?"
"Why do you bring me here?" She asked curiously.
"I thought you will love this place."
"Yes, but I thought-, don't you think it is too open for a talk?"
"You need to eat Cagalli, look how skinny you are. I just want you to eat your dinner properly first, that's why I chose this place, because I know you will like it"
She paused, she really hated this, why he cared so much about her, when they knew what would happen next. Actually, she didn't know how to act, but since Athrun cared for her, she decided to act friendly toward him.
"You're right, I really missed this. It has been a long time since the last time we ate here."
"See, I'm sure you would like it." He smiled at her.
"Well, thanks." She smiled back.
"You are welcome."
"So, why don't we start the talk?" Before Athrun could answer her, the waiter came with the food they had ordered.
"Why don't we eat first? We'll talk after dinner." He said after the waiter walked away from them.
"Alright."
While eating their food, they talk casually like old friends. They talked about how they were doing, about the politics, about ORB and ZAFT until the food was out of the plate. Athrun stood up, walked to the cashier, paid the food and went back towards their table.
"Come on Cagalli."
"Where?"
"A place to talk."
Cagalli stood up and asked again.
"Where are we going? And how much is the food? I'll pay mine."
Athrun didn't answer, he kept walking toward the car. Opening Cagalli's door. Cagalli went into the car. After that, Athrun closed the door. He also climbed in his car.
"Let's go, you'll know where. As for the food, my treat. I actually, I don't know how to begin." He said with some uncertainty in his voice.
"Then why do you want to talk in the first place?" She asked
"Well, actually you should be the one who gives me an explanation though." He said firmly. Almost mean.
"You're right" she gave up the conversation. She was not willing to talk again. After all, the talk was too serious and she didn't know if she could handle it now, but she had to. The air was changing dramatically, from friendly to grief. She went through her purse to get something, after a moment, she put a small box on the dashboard in front of them.
"Athrun, I don't think I deserve this. Here, it's yours. I hope you can find someone who is worth it."
Athrun frowned at the box, he was disappointed, but he tried to be calm. He reached the small box and put it to his pants pocket.
"So that is the explanation?"
"The short version. Yes."
"Let's go then."
"Where are we going?"
"You'll know."
After a long hour ride. They arrived at their destination. It was a beach near the reverend Malkio's orphanage. They went outside the car. Cagalli walked toward the shore and sat down. She felt the breeze through her hair. Enjoying the weather. Athrun sat down beside her.
"Beautiful isn't it? The beach. I always thought that living at the seaside would be great. You know, just like Kira and Lacus with the orphanage." She said suddenly.
"Why?"
"Hmmm, maybe because it feels free? I don't know, maybe less suffocated?"
"Why did your explanation didn't make sense at all?"
"What? Oh that, I-I-, well that's the best explanation I can give to you."
"Can you give me the long version?"
"Hmm.. I don't know. I just realize that maybe we're not meant for each other, I mean romantically. You know for example, our first meeting was not a good start." She laughed at that, remembering the past event.
"I just don't know Athrun. I even asked myself, what you really have felt for me? Was it real? I keep asking myself and I thought maybe it was not, you're just confused. The second war made me realize it. Maybe all this time, it was just companionship from me that you need? I remember, when we started this, Lacus just broke up with you that time, she fell for Kira. So, maybe you just need me that time. I mean, you get what I mean right? Maybe there was no love, maybe we're just meant to be best friends, right?" She tried to suppress her tears on the edge of her eyes. She didn't mean it at all, she was very much in love with Athrun, but yes, maybe on his side it was just confusion. She didn't want to say it, but she needed to. She was not sure of this relationship anymore.
"What do you mean, are you accusing me to use you as a rebound?" He was shocked at what Cagalli just said. He didn't believe what he heard.
"No, it is just, maybe you're just confused. It was war Athrun, everyone needed their pillars. You need me at that time, as much as I need you. However, we confused it to be love. Well maybe it was love but between comrades not lovers. Just like you and Nicol or Me and Ahmed. You get what I mean right?"
"..."
"Athrun?"
"Nonsense. Bull." Athrun turned his gaze from her to the sea. He frowned, he was slightly angry. He didn't believe it. It was a lame excuse. He was so sure it was not confusion. He was never in love before, even with Lacus he always tried to be a proper gentleman, but it wasn't love with Lacus. Admiration? Maybe, but it wasn't love. However, it was different with Cagalli, she always brought out the honesty in him. He was Athrun when he was with her, not a Zala. He was happy when she was around, maybe she didn't realize it, but he was always so forward with her, even gave her a ring! He was serious about their future. Now, she just said it was all confusion. What kind of bullshit is that?
She reached his left cheek with her hand, trying to make him face her again. He turned to face her, but he closed his eyes. She saw disappointment on his face.
"Athrun, you are important to me, really, I think you are the most important person to me now, beside Kira. However, I betrayed you, by trying to get married to that bastard. You said you can understand, but can't accept it. I understand and I know it was unacceptable. However, you too re-enlisted in ZAFT without telling me anything. If we really love each other, if we really mean a lot to each other, wouldn't we at least tell the other person first?"
"Cagalli I-"
"But unfortunately we didn't."
"We've talked about this on the Archangel. I forgave you, you forgave me. I thought you understood the reason I re-enlisted." Athrun tried to reason with her. His voice was stern. His eyes now open to look at her again.
"Yes, we forgive each other, but I don't think we can continue this Athrun. I mean it is just too hard, this relationship and you really deserve someone better. Let's just be friends, a very best friend on that matter." She looked at him and tried her best to smile.
"You know we can't be friends. It was real at least for me. I don't know about you, but for me it is real. My feelings."His voice was cold. He didn't understand Cagalli's point of view. Of course she knew what he felt towards her was real. If it wasn't then why did he even bother to give her a ring. A promise ring. A promise that he will come back to her.
"Athrun, please."
"No, I don't want to hear it. You are being so unreasonable."
"Athrun, listen to me! You can be happy with someone else. Meyrin, she saved your life even though she knew she could get killed. She is a coordinator, beautiful and smart too. You can't miss this chance, you know? Compared to our relationship, it is a better choice for you. Do you think this relationship could last forever Athrun? Yes, maybe when I'm not the leader of ORB. Ask yourself, can it get real? Can we have a future together? You are a coordinator, Patrick Zala's son and you were a ZAFT soldier! "
"Don't start about Meyrin, you'll do the same, I don't want to hear it anymore. You're just being ridiculous!"
"Athrun, answer me, can you imagine our relationship in the future? No right? So, let's just be friends, no, best friends. It was not real, you are just confused about your feelings. I'm sure you will fall for Meyrin if you give it time."
"Give it time? Do you think I can fall for someone just because I spent some time with them? Don't you think it won't be fair for Meyrin if we're still friends and she knew that I still harbor feelings for you, but still tried to date her."
"You never love me Athrun!" She screamed at him, her tears already fell from her eyes uncontrollably. She didn't know why she cried, she just knew that it was sad. What she just said was sad.
"You're just assuming things! I always love you. Do you know who kept coming to mind when I re-enlisted? It was you, I always thought it was for you, to protect you and Kira and everyone! Don't you remember our dreams, Cagalli? It was the same, for me and for you too!"
Flashback
Two people sat intimately close to the window. The girl sat on the boy's lap, she laid her back onto the boy's shoulder comfortably. The two were looking at the sky from inside the girl's bedroom.
"Athrun?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you think Coordinator and Natural could really live in peace in the future?"
"Why the question?"
"I don't know, you know there has been some terrible news about blue cosmos lately and I wonder if peace can be kept forever. What do you think would happen if the war breaks again?"
"What are you really trying to ask here?"
"We've been keeping our relationship a secret since you came here, you even changed your name to Alex Dino. It just bothers me a lot. Do you think we can reveal this one day?"
"For now the peace is still fragile, and being a Zala was not very popular in the moment. Especially as the ORB's leader companion. If the war breaks again, then we will fight again to stop it. We will fight again until the peace can be kept forever. So, we can reveal this relationship to the public. I will fight for it. Cagalli will too, right?"

"I will never give up, to keep the peace, because after all the peace is what we need. You won't give up too right, Cagalli?"
She smiled at him
"Yes, I won't give up too."
"Then our dreams are the same." He smiled back at her.

"You remember right? I won't give up. You said it too that you won't give up."
"But I just can't Athrun. For now please let's break it off. I really want to heal first."
"Cagalli!"
"Athrun please, the second war really had me. I'm just really tired. Please?"
"Alright. If that's what you want. Let's have a break, but I'll wait for you."
"What? No! I don't know how long it takes! For Haumea sake Athrun, can't you make it easier for me?"
"I'll prove it to you Cagalli. My feelings are real!"
"Athrun, don't make it hard for me, please?"
"Cagalli, I'm hurting too. Can't you see?"
"Athrun.."
"I'll wait okay? It doesn't matter how long it takes. I'll wait, so take your time, Cagalli."
"You know I can't promise you anything Athrun."
"I know."
"There is a chance I will fall for someone else in the future."

After that talk, Athrun did many things he never did in the past when they were really together. Well, he was being affectionate and he showed it to other people. Okay, it was maybe because he was no longer merely a bodyguard named Alex Dino. He was now an admiral for defense and technology advances military of ORB by the name Athrun Zala. Yes, he came back as Athrun Zala. The first time he revealed himself, everyone was so shocked. This is Patrick Zala's son we are talking about, the one and only. Many people were debating the meaning of his presence at ORB. He was gone for two years after the first war, and he came back as ZAFT soldier at the beginning of the second war, and then he stayed at ORB at the end of the second war. Many people were asking for his true intention, the most of all was why was he so close to the ORB's princess Cagalli Yula Athha. There were rumors circulating about the true relationship between the two, that actually they were romantically involved. It was true that they were friends since the first war, along with Lacus Clyne and Kira Yamato, their closeness however made many people wondering if the rumors were true.
"Lady Athha, do you have any comment about your relationship with Admiral Zala?"
"Lady Athha, is it true that you have a romantic relationship with Admiral Zala?
"Is it true that Admiral Zala was your bodyguard named Alex Dino after the first war, Lady Athha?"
"If you really are in a romantic relationship with Admiral Zala, is it for political purposes? Since he is a coordinator?"
Cagalli sighed and walked past all of the reporters around her toward her car. She had a really bad day. Everyone was asking her nonstop about this since Athrun came back a month ago and used his own real name, not to mention what he did after the talk. Just like today, a bunch of reporters were waiting for her after work. After she got in the car, the driver immediately stepped on the gas headed for the Athha Mansion. Arriving at home, Athrun was already waiting for her in the study room.
"What a great day Athrun Zala!" She jeered at him
"I'm sorry."
"Oh yes you should be!"
"I've had enough of hiding." his voice was calm.
"But Athrun did you really have to give me flowers every week? It was so humiliating you know?"
"I told you, I've had enough hidings."
"We are just friends now, you know that right?"
"Dinner?"
"Don't change the topic!" She yelled at him
"I'll pick you up at 7p.m sharp."
"Hey, I don't even answer that yet!" Cagalli looked at the closed door in front of her, she sighed again for the hundredth time today.
"That stupid coordinator really make me want to throw a fit. Aaaaaaaargh."
"Athrun, you know, you should stop asking me to dinner."
"What's wrong? There is nothing wrong with friends going to dinner together."
"Well yes that's before you announce yourself in front of the National TV that you are Athrun Zala, I felt so embarrassed for every question those damn reporters asked me. Can't you be more considerable?"
"What makes you feel embarrassed? Being friends with me? Or the scandalous relationship with a coordinator?"
"Athrun, you know what I mean. It is never about your race. Why did you say something like that?"
"I don't know why, because you felt ashamed maybe?"
"Listen Athrun, you know we can't be something like in the past anymore and you know that."
"Cagalli. Let's stop talking. Please just eat."
"Athrun-"
"Just eat please."

Cagalli was drawn to her paperwork, her office phone was ringing. She picked it up and it was from her secretary.
"Lady Athha, there is another bouquet of roses for you. This is the third time this week, it is from Admiral Zala. Would you like to put it on the vase?" Sophie said to her.
"Yes please, thank you Sophie."
"And lady Athha, Admiral Zala asked if you can go to lunch with him this afternoon, since he can't go to dinner with you."
"Tell him no, I can't go to lunch with him today. I have some paperworks to finish."
"He said he will pick you up at 1p.m."
"That bastard! I don't even agree yet. Tell him Sophie, I-"
"He already hung up, Lady Athha."
Athrun never had the tendencies to be romantic, he was never a romantic. However, three years ago he tried to change. He wanted to show his feelings to Cagalli. At first, it was embarrassing for him, very embarrassing. However, the first time he gave her a bouquet of flowers, Cagalli was slightly shocked, but she smiled happily at it. So, he decided to do that more often. Even though after that she was yelling at him for giving her the same thing every week. She said it was not necessary and useless, but for Athrun her ranting was so amusing and that is the other reason why he kept on doing that stunt.
Last week, Lacus and Kira's wedding invitation came to him. He really wanted Cagalli to come with him. He has been trying to persuade Cagalli to go to the wedding with him this past week. At first, of course, the Representative refused boldly, she did not want the rumors about them to become worse, but Athrun did not care, he wanted Cagalli to come with him.
So since his first request was refused, Athrun sent flowers to Cagalli's office more often, which was usually once a week, now became three times a week. Athrun also sent Cagalli's favorite chocolate box every time he sent the flowers. Athrun promised to stop if Cagalli would come to Plants with him to attend the wedding of Lacus and Kira.
"Lady Athha, there is a special package for you from Admiral Zala. I think it is chocolate, since I know the shop address. It is a popular chocolate shop."
"Thank you Sophie, you can put it there. I will call that jerk soon."
Cagalli had enough, she was really annoyed at Athrun. Not only did he give her flowers everyday, he sent chocolates too, some other day he sent some stuffed bear, and that was really literally annoying, since he already knew that she didn't like stuffed bears at all. The rumors at her office were too loud now, everyone was giving her a smile or grin with the underlying motives behind it. She picked up her phone office, she was trying to make some sense to this man.
"Yes, Admiral Zala here. May I help you?" the man picked up the phone.
"ATHRUN! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE, ALRIGHT I'M GOING TO THE WEDDING WITH YOU, SO PLEASE STOP EMBARRASSING ME IN MY OFFICE!"
"Okay, I will arrange the schedule then. Kira and Lacus will be happy."he smiled giddily.
Tonight, Athrun came to the Athha mansion to have dinner with Cagalli, usually they will eat dinner at the mansion, once in a while Athrun asked her to dinner out.
"I don't believe it. How can you not feel ashamed of what you did?" Cagalli said in disbelief.
"What did I do?"
"Playing dumb here?"
"No, I'm just asking."
"Athrun, can you imagine everyone was looking at me with a grin on their faces because you sent me some stuff! You know that!"
"Relax Cagalli."
"HOW CAN I RELAX? YOU ARE MY FRIEND NOT MY BOYFRIEND ANYMORE! SHOULD I EMPHASIZE THAT?"
"Cagalli, calm down. The maids are looking at us."
"Stop it Athrun really. You can give me anything, but please don't publicize it."
"I can't promise you that though. I'm making my way to you. I can't give up now. At least I promise you I won't send it everyday now, since you agree to come to the wedding with me."
"Athrun, we've talked about this"
"Yes, and I have told you that I'm taking that risk. Ah, and one more thing, I really want to know what will be the ORB's opinion if their leader marries a coordinator and a Zala."

Today is the wedding day, Athrun and Cagalli just arrived at Plants exactly one hour before the wedding. They had so much work to do, that's why they arrived a bit late. Cagalli made her way to the make-up room to meet the bride. She couldn't wait to see Lacus. She wanted to meet Kira too, but she thought that maybe Kira needed Athrun more than her now, you know brothers talk, man to man. She opened the door she headed for, and saw Lacus on her beautiful dress. She was amazing, she couldn't help to feel a bit jealous.
"What a beautiful bride! Kira is so lucky to have you."
"Cagalli!" Lacus shouted at her as she was surprised to see the blonde at the door.
"I'm sorry I'm a bit late"
"I'm so happy Cagalli you've made it! Really, it meant a lot." Lacus came toward Cagalli to hug her. She missed Cagalli so much and in an hour Cagalli will become her sister in law.
"I'm sorry I didn't come often." Cagalli said bitterly.
"It's alright, we understand, we didn't visit much either. Sometimes we were worried, especially Kira. Are you still skipping meals?"
"No, someone made sure I had my meals three times a day. No need to worry though, I'm really fine." she smiled at the pink hair lady, but a bit frowned at the next question she asked her.
"How long will you keep him waiting for you, Cagalli?"
"What?" she didn't believe it, Lacus talked about this on her wedding day.
"It has been 3 years, hasn't it?"
"Uh, oh, yeaah.."
"Are you still hesitating? After what he has shown to you?"
"You knew what he did?"
"Oh yes, Kisaka told us about it on his last visit. You yell at him every week."

"Hmmm, I think it was the opposite. Just be patient."
"It has been three years Kira."
"You know how stubborn she is and the fact she still didn't strip you from your position after what you did this three whole year means she tried to accept you being part of her life."
"I hope you're right."
"I'm sure I'm right, call it twin things? Things with ORB are nice too right? According to the news, they kind of accept it."
"Yeah, they took it well surprisingly. However, about Cagalli, I really hope you're right, let's go, it is time for you to get married."
"The wedding is so magnificent! I love how they decorate the room. Lacus is just so beautiful, I'm a bit jealous. They look so happy right, Athrun?" She smiled wistfully.
"Do you want to get married?" He asked calmly. Looking at the married couple at the garden. The couple were so happy talking with guests.
"What?"
"Do you want to get married? You said you were jealous." His voice is still calm.
"You know, funny thing is, I'm already married to ORB." She giggled although she didn't know what was so funny about that.
"One day, you will get married eventually with a real person." His voice changed to be stern. He was serious but still not looking at her.
"What if I don't?"
"I will make you then." He smiled, his gaze unfathomable.
"Hmm, yeah, maybe I will get married one day." She said jokingly. However the man really took it seriously.
"Yes, you will."
"I'm not so sure though. No one has courted me this past three years. The last one I remember was Yuna." She laughed bitterly.
"You didn't count me in."
"You were different."
"You know, ORB's opinion is surprisingly so nice toward me. Some magazines even already guess what will be the haircolor of our child if we really get married. Will it be green, since your hair is blonde and mine was blue?"
"Athrun! Don't you dare with that again. You know-"
"I will make sure you will get married Cagalli, I promise you." Before she could finish her sentence, he said that. He looked at her earnestly for a second, she was taken aback with his gaze, she couldn't say anything after that. After a couple seconds of silent, he returned his gaze to the married couple once again.
Cagalli looked at the man beside her. He was really different now. He was so sure. Sometimes, she wondered if they really meant for each other. Cagalli had tried to move on, but this man kept on staying beside her everyday. She knew she still loves him, despite what she said that they were only friends. However, she didn't know, for her, their past relationship was too much to handle, she didn't want to feel the same heartbreak like three years ago. However this man, with no sense of doubt just said that he would make her get married one day and of course she knew what he meant. He already said that he would wait for her. All of his flowers, chocolates and other gifts he gave her, just meant one thing, that he wanted to get her back. He wanted to start over with her and he would make sure she would end up marrying him. Now, looking at him like this, made her doubt herself, if she was doing the right thing?

"So, Athrun-san, will you join us for dinner? It has been a long time since the last time we met" a girl with redhead and pigtail hair asked him.
"Come on Athrun, it has been a long time since the last time we met." Lunamaria, the sister of the redhead pigtail added.
"I would appreciate you for accompanying me, since I'm the only man in the group." Shinn said jokingly.
Meyrin, Luna and Shinn visited ORB for military purposes. They met Athrun accidentally at the Onogoro Military Headquarters. It has been a long time since they met. The last one was at Lacus and Kira's wedding. It was one year ago.
"Alright, I'll join you, but I would like to have a call first if you don't mind?"
"Of course, it's alright!" Meyrin squealed.
"Hey, I can't go to dinner with you today, but I'll make it up tomorrow alright?"
"..."
"Oh, it's Meyrin, Luna and Shinn. They kind of insist."
"..."
"No, I will make it up to you. I'll come at 7 a.m tomorrow."
"Are you mad? If you say something like that I'll go straight to you after dinner."

"Oh yes, I will. No, you know I will. See you." He hung up the phone.
"Is it Cagalli-san?" Meyrin asked curiously, she couldn't think another person could make Athrun Zala talk so casually like that.
"Ah, yes. She would be mad at me if I didn't tell her first."
"So, you and her really?" Luna asked curiously
"What?"
"In a relationship? The rumors were true?" Luna said again with surprise in her tone.
He smiled at the question and just shrugged it off.
"Let's go, I'm hungry." he said, making the three stand up in silence.
A pillow flying toward him. It hit him on the face. Cagalli was furious.
'How dare he come here. He was having dinner with Meyrin, why did he have to come here? Alright it's not only with Meyrin, however still. Wait, why do I act like this? Am I jealous or something? I need to stop. We are not a couple anymore. He can go to dinner with whomever he wants to. Why am I so angry? It is his fault. I drew a line, but he always kind of erased it. I didn't know why I had to be so jealous. Now, everyone said that we were like an old married couple.'
"What do you want?" She asked angrily.
"I told you I will come straight to you after dinner. I know you didn't like it when I mentioned Meyrin."
"You are so confident aren't you? How do you know I was angry when I didn't?"
"Hmm, you kinda snort if you hate something you heard."
"You know what Athrun Zala? You can go to dinner with whomever you want! You can date any girl you want and you can marry them if you want! Now, if you'll excuse me, I want to sleep! So, get out!"
The man just smiled, he walked towards the bed she was lying on and he laid his body beside her. Hugging her from the back. Cagalli was surprised, after they broke up, he never had the urge to do something more than a hug. Of course, after all they were just friends.
"Cagalli."
"Go away! Don't hug me! Why do you always hug whenever you want!"
"You are the only person who had this kind of power over me. I don't know why, I seem to be relaxed around you, and that made me want to hug you every other time."
"Can you get permission first at least? This is my body, you are hugging mister Zala."
"If I asked you first, you wouldn't allow it."
"Since you know the answer why you hug as you please."
"Because I need it. Sometimes it gets so lonely."

"I'm sorry Cagalli, I know you're mad, but at least listen to my explanation first."

"Why do you have to explain this? I already told you that I'm not your girlfriend anymore. Why do you have to do this? Why can't you make things easier for me Athrun Zala?" she felt her voice cracked, she didn't know what to do anymore except to surrender to her unwanted feeling.
"Cagalli?" he heard it, the sadness in her voice.
"I have my doubts okay? So, please I just, I don't know, let me sleep will you?"
"Cagalli what you just said? What doubts?" he was surprised, what he just heard is it true?
"Athrun please."
"Are you reconsidering our relationship now? To start over?"
"Athrun, stop okay? Let me sleep."
"Let me hug you for a few minutes then." he smiled, she was reconsidering their relationship. Athrun was so sure of it.
"Hhhh.. If I'm asleep you know where the exit is."
"I know."
"Don't sleep here!"
"Okay. Night, Cagalli."
"Night."
And then she fell asleep. When she woke up in the morning, Athrun had gone. Not too long, because he promised to pick her up at 7 a.m. It meant he would have breakfast at the mansion. Oh yes, Maana and every other worker at the mansion already knew about their relationship, maybe even after the first war. They already knew something suspicious between their leader and her bodyguard, sometimes they even caught them in an intimate hug in the past, however they never mentioned it, they just knew. These days, Athrun came almost everyday, if not for breakfast then for dinner. If he didn't come it is almost likely due to his works or maybe other various reasons, but he always made it up, like showing after dinner hours, or gave her some kind of gifts. However, you can count with your finger how many days he was absent. He is almost never absent. He really makes sure that Cagalli will talk to him everyday. If he really can't come because he or she needs to go abroad for work, then he makes sure to call her. Yes, everyday, Athrun Zala makes sure that everyday Cagalli Yula Athha will see and talk to him.

"So, today we will talk about our lovely couple. Do you know the rumors, Will?"
"What rumors are you talking about, Sean?"
"The one including our beloved representative and her best friend, admiral Athrun Zala."
"Ah yes! That was quite an epic story don't you think?"
"Yes, I never thought the admiral would be a romantic man."

Cagalli hugged him, he was shocked. She has never been so forward in a skinship. It was always him to do the first move. So, he was quite taken aback now. He heard soft sobs on his shoulder. He knew Cagalli was crying. He hugged her back, tightly.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry too, I feel like I didn't deserve you. I want to let you free, I want you to choose someone who can make you happy." She said, still sobbing.
"It's alright, I'm the one who is sorry. I was a jerk."
"Stupid." She lifted up her face to see him.
"I know, I don't care."
She smiled at him, the wide one. She finally was honest with her feelings. He reached for her cheek wiping her tears and then lifting her chin up toward him, he kissed her lips with a sense of longing in his kiss. She returned the kiss with the same sense. The kiss was not fierce, it was a chaste one, but a loving one. They love each other, but it was never easy, because of their race, their background, their different personalities and their duties. Both of them were selfless, trying to find happiness in peace. It was not easy to patch things over, but he didn't give up. He waited until she realized that she shouldn't give up either. They broke the kiss and looked at each other lovingly before coming to hug each other again, more tightly than before.
A pair of a man and a woman just get out of their car. They held each other's hand as they walked to the Attha mansion. Just in front of the door, the reporters which were already waiting for them anxiously since morning showered them with every question on their mind.
"Lady Athha, so it is true that you have a romantic relationship with Athrun Zala? For how long?
"Admiral Zala, what will you do to your relationship? Based on Natural and Coordinator relationships, you two are very famous people. Do you think it will affect the treaties?"
"Admiral Zala, please tell us since when have you fallen for the princess?"
"Hime-sama, are you happy?"

"Hmm, I just remember, you know, I was crying when I was about to marry that moron."

"Yes, and it was not a happy tear. I was remembering memories." She didn't realize a tear just dropped from her eyes.
"Cagalli.." Lacus try to help her wipe her tears
"I was remembering my relationship with Athrun, I was crying so hard, it was almost too hard to fake it with a smile." She tried to smile and hold another tear to fall. "I just didn't believe it. After all we went through in the second war, he still managed to marry me." She just chuckled after that.
"Listen, you should forget about the past. I know the second war had you and Athrub badly, but two of you have overcome it. No need to make it hard for yourself. Okay? Now, it's time for you to be happy."
"Thank you Lacus, I really hope this would work." She smiled genuinely
"See, that smile was much better. Of course it will, you didn't test out his patience for five years just to prove that it all just won't work right?"
"Yeah, I hope." She giggled at that.

Athrun was very happy indeed, he would never regret it, even if he had to wait for five years or more, he will always love this woman to bits, and there was no one who can replace her. Cagalli may never have been a sweet girl, but she always cared and honest with the people she loved, she was always selfless. She could sacrifice her happiness for the people she loves. That is what he loves about her, and not many women have those traits. She is a princess, but she is not the spoiled one. Never. Cagalli always tried to help people, even sometimes it was a stupid act, but she really like to help. Athrun smiled at the woman in front of him who was still busy working on the paperwork in front of her, even though it was Sunday.

"Oh really?" Athrun got up from his chair and walked towards the woman in front of him. He knelt before Cagalli, readying his hand beside her waist and then he just tickled her waist.
"Athrun that tickles, stop! Ha ha, Athrun stop!" He didn't stop, now he tickled her belly. She was on the verge of crying as she laughed so hard.
"Then say it."
"No-no! Athrun ha ha ha, come on ha ha ha"
"Oh, you will regret this." His hand moved from the sides of her waist to her neck, the most sensitive part of her body and then he tickled it.
"Athrun! Please, ha ha ha , alright, alright fine I'll say it, just stop!" He stopped but still knelt in front of her.
"Hmm?" Waiting for her answer.
Cagalli looked him in the eye, she reached his cheek with her left hand, this man is her husband now. After their separation, it was not easy for her to accept him back, she was too afraid that she would be hurt like the last time. Feeling romantic towards someone may be the happiest feeling in the world but it also occured to be the worst feeling in her life. Cagalli didn't want to be someone who cling into the past, if Athrun had moved on, she would have tried to be happy even if it means that they would never be together again, she always knew, she can't always be with him, and she can't be selfish. Athrun deserved better, she thought. She was ready to give up on him, but the thing is he was the one who was not ready to give her up. He fought to get her back, to convince her that he would never hurt her again. Even though she was the one who hurt him first, he forgave her, he still wanted to be with her. After five years, she realized that no one will love her as much as he loves her. There are doubts of course, but they vanish as time tells that Athrun is always there for her.
"I love you, always and of course you knew that."
She smiled as she closed the gap between them, showering his husband with kisses on his lips from the bottom of her heart. She will always love him. Even if he left her, even if he forgot about her. She will still love him, she just realized. That is how deep her love for him, just like his love for her. In the past, for now and forever.
