Chapter 1: Preface
In St. Mungos a child was born. The small cries echoed off the white walls. Inside a father watched his child with interest, a mother happily held the child, and a Healer watched the happy scene. The mother looked down on her child, smiling. Her first child, a daughter had been born! She proudly looked down at her healthy baby girl. The child looked up at her mother with her big blue eyes. The baby reached up and grabbed at her mother's earring. The mother smiled again as the baby gazed around the room, her newborn eyes still blind.
The Healer smiled as he watched the joy on the parents face. This never got old. He sighed dreamily at the mother's joyfulness and the father's pride.
That's when the three of them noticed something strange, the baby started to float! Up she floated, until she was close enough to touch the ceiling. The Healer chuckled as he watched.
"Well at least we know she's not a Squib," the Healer laughed. He had seen things like this before, but this baby kept reaching up as she floated higher. He whipped out his wand and floated her back into the mother's arms right before the baby touched the ceiling.
The mother had watched in astonishment as her baby had floated out of her arms. She gave the Healer a grateful look as he floated her back down. She knew not a lot of babies showed signs of magic until they were much older, so she admired the already powerful baby girl.
The Healer had to take note of this, though. Powerful babies needed to be recorded just in case. While some became Aurors and Department Heads, some turned evil and wanted more power.
The mother knew nothing of this and just smiled at her baby girl. The mother then whipped out her wand.
"Expecto Patronum!" The mother called as a beautiful blue Pegasus burst from the wand. The Pegasus trotted around the room before coming towards the mother and child. The Pegasus bowed her head and touched her nose to the baby's small hand. Then with a toss of the Pegasus's head it spread its wings wide and disappeared with a flash.
The mother looked towards her husband with a knowing look. She gave him a pointed look and through their bond, they knew what the other was thinking. They turned towards the Healer and spoke simultaneously.
"Her name is Skylar." The two parents smiled as they said this in unison.
The Healer was a little creeped out by the parents' mind-reading or whatever they did, but wrote down the name with a flourish on his clipboard. Then he walked towards the new baby, Skylar.
"Welcome Skylar to the wizarding world!"
