Don't own marvel or characters.

So this is my first (probably only) take on an alternate storyline for The Age of Ultron.

Funny fact: I watched Endgame (but I missed the first five minutes so I didn't see the Bartons disappear), then, Infinity War, then, Age of Ultron, then The Avengers.

Even after I realized that Clint was married I shipped Clintasha. Still do.

Anyway why does Laura have to be his wife? He hid her all these years, why show her now? How do we no it's just part of Clintasha's cover?

I'll let you read now.

She heard it (somehow). She felt his pain in her side, like it was her own (how could she feel it?). In her mind she saw the blue-grey blur run past him. She turned in time to watch him fall, clutching his side, into the snow. "Clint!"

The Black Widow dashed forward with one intent - Agent Romanoff drooped everything as she raced towards her partner - But it was Natasha who skidded to a stop beside him.

Hawkeye. Her partner. Her friend...

The Black Widow stopped the ragged wound with steady hands to keep him from bleeding to death. Agent Romanoff called "Clint's hit!" into her comm. Then when no one answered she asked "Somebody want to deal with that bunker?"

The Hulk crashed through it and she smiled. "Thank you."

On the whole she was extremely calm. But to one who could read her well, Natasha was saying something far different from the 'everything's fine, Cap, Barton's just got his hit for today.' Her eyes betrayed her worry to the wounded man, even as they threatened, 'Don't you leave me, Birdbrain, or I'll kill you like I should have the day we met.'

"Clint's hit pretty bad, guys. We're gonna need evac." She informed to the rest of the Team.

He was in big trouble.

At the Tower she stood beside him as he lay on the table under the tissue regenerator.

"You sure he's going to be okay? Pretending to need this guy really brings the Team together." She commented as she watched him.

'There's no possibility of deterioration. The nano-molecular functionality is instantaneous. His cells don't know they're bonding with simulacrum." Dr. Cho assured the worried agent.

"She's creating tissue." Banner told her.

"If you brought him to my lab, the regeneration Cradle could do this in twenty minutes." Dr. Cho reminded everyone.

Tony walked in with Clint's drink. "Oh, he's flatlining. Call it. Time?"

That man! She still couldn't believe She hadn't snapped his neck yet!

"No, no, no. I'm going to live forever. I'm gonna be made of plastic." Clint rolled over to face Tony.

"Here's your beverage." Tony answered coolly.

"You'll be made of you, Mr. Barton. Your own girlfriend won't be able to tell the difference." Dr. Cho assured with a smile him.

"Well, I don't have a girlfriend." Clint slured, still delirious, or rather still pretending to be delirious like a normal person would be.

"That I can't fix." Dr. Cho turned around with a smile.

The Black Widow heard his 'I don't have a girlfriend,' and bit back a laugh and swallowed her threats.

"Not anymore." Agent Hill told Steve as she handed him a tablet.

"That's a negative. I answer to you. Yes, ma'am." Clint spoke into his phone.

Steve interrupted him, "Barton, we might have something."

"Gotta go." Clint muttered to the person on the other end.

'Who was that?' Cap asked.

'Girlfriend.'

She rolled her eyes at Cap's back when she head her partners ridiculous excuse. 'Girlfriend'. Cap didn't notice and Clint just smiled cheekily.

She wandered the corridors of the Red Room facility as she watched herself and the other students train. Watching helplessly as her former self completed her graduation ceremony. "You'll break them." She whispered.

The scene shifted and she again relived the countless horrors she had committed, but this time as a silent viewer. She observed in mute terror as a younger version of herself casually set fire to a children's hospital. Natasha shook repulsively as the younger Black Widow smiled. 'Only the ones that can be broken..."

Drakov's daughter lay dead as a slightly younger Black Widow stood with a knife in her hand. Natasha stood still as her past replayed before her eyes. ' ...and you are made of marble.' Madams voice echoed through her head. 'We'll celebrate after the graduation ceremony.'

'What if I fail?'

You never fail. Sloppy. Pretending to fail. The ceremony is necessary for you to take your place in the world.

"I have no place in the world." The younger girl whispered.

"Exactly."

But then another voice broke into her mind. Familiar. Masculine. Soothing. Singing a Russian lullaby. Clint's voice sung her song, while he rocked her in his arms. "Nat, Nat..."

"Come back to me...please."

His grip tightened around her, as he held Natasha to his chest. Whispering her name into her ear over and over. "I'll tear her to pieces." He growled as his partner stood unmoving in his arms.

Memories stampeded past her barriers, and Natasha began to wonder if her past was really gone or if she wasn't the same, under another name, killing for a different organization.
