A/N: Got inspired to write this because I watched the most recent SMOSH reenacting fanfiction video, and y'all suck at this. If you're going to write fanfiction about people at least make it about the people and situations that could actually happen in their lives. That is one of my biggest fanfiction pet peeves. Quit with all this random person, in random location, at random age, in random occupation who has nothing to do with the actual person you're writing about, but because you say it's a SMOSH fanfiction and the character's name is Courtney it's supposed to be Courtney. It's fucking dumb and cut it out. If you want to write an OC, just write a fucking OC. AU shit is ridiculous. Don't at me.
Also I am writing this purely because I hope one day SMOSH will find it and reenact it. This is all just a joke and I hope you guys think the ending is funny. I know that Shayne and Courtney are just really close platonic friends but it's fun to write stories and fun to know I can write a ridiculous piece of fiction that one day might get to them. Just tryna make the SMOSH fam laugh. Also I have no idea what the SMOSH cast members actually do other then be in videos, so I'm just making this shit up as I go. That is all. Now, I hope you will enjoy this fanfiction that I have written. :)
The office was nearly empty, it was late and almost everyone had left. Everyone except one Courtney Ruth Miller, and Shayne Robert Topp, that's right I'm throwing in the middle names. (which both start with R's might I add, Shourtney confirmed!) Shayne had headphones on and was watching a smosh pit video they would be releasing the next day. It was just a silly video of him and his friends being ridiculous. He really was so lucky to have this job. Doing what he loved with the people that he loved. Especially one person. As he watched the video he found himself frequently pausing it at scenes of him and one of his best friends Courtney. They were a very close group and weren't shy about expressing their fondness physically. They were often seen leaning on one another, hugging, and even the occasional butt slap because they were a family here at SMOSH. On the day the video he was watching was filmed, Courtney had been particularly touchy. He paused the video at scenes where she had leaned on him, and even at one point where she hopped on his back and he gave her a piggy back ride. Every time he paused the video, he remembered that day and it's events with a fondness. She was so effortlessly beautiful. She was silly, charming, confident, and didn't care what the world thought, which made her even more remarkable. He recalled the first time he saw comments from Shourtney shippers, and laughing it off with the others as such a ridiculous idea. Even though from the first day he met her at that SMOSH audition he'd known she was the most extraordinary woman he'd ever meet. Every time Shourtney was brought up Courtney always got quiet so Shayne did as well not wanting to make her think he wished it too, since she obviously didn't see him that way. Suddenly a figure appeared behind his computer monitor. Shayne looked up at his friend Courtney.
"Hey I just finished, do you want to get a bite?" She spoke casually, as if her words meant nothing to him.
He stared for a moment too long before responding. "Oh, um sure."
"Whatcha workin on?" She asked playfully looking over the computer screen in front of her. Shayne moved his hands swiftly to play the video so she wouldn't see the still frame of the two of them.
"Nothing, just screening this video before tomorrow. It's a good one." He spoke rushed and nervously.
"Oh yeah, I remember that one. That was a fun day." She laughed when the piggy back scene came up, "Oh my god, we're going to get so many Shourtney comments on this one"
Shayne forced a laugh as well "Yeah, haha. Whatever works for the views I guess haha"
"Yeah" Courtney looked at him sideways, "Hey is everything okay?"
"Yeah, so food?"
"Okay?"
The two left the office together and drove through jack in the box for some dinner.
Courtney looked at her friend in the passenger seat. She'd known him for years, but somehow he still had the ability to make her feel like that little girl who wrote those diaries in middle school. There was something so admirable about Shayne. Sure anyone could look at Shayne and see he was a good looking guy, blonde hair, blue eyes, large muscles what wasn't to like. But that's not what she liked about him. Shayne had to be the most well rounded person she had ever met. He was incredibly funny, unbelievably smart, a huge reader, very perceptive, his background in psychology made him one of the most understanding men she'd ever met, and his work ethic was impeccable. There was something contagious about Shayne, as if just being around him made your day better.
Courtney smiled at Shayne, "Hey smile" she said pointing her phone's camera at him, he made a silly face holding up his food for the camera.
"What's that for?" He asked leaning over to look at her phone screen.
"Just something to drive the fans crazy." She laughed as she typed the words 'first date kinda nervous' over the picture and posted it on her Instagram story. (no clue if that's a thing where y'all live but it's a big thing where I live. If you've never heard of it, it's just a joke people do. They post pictures of their friends who they obviously aren't on dates with and say first date kinda nervous.)
Shayne laughed nervously at the screen, how he wished this was a date.
"The whole Shourtney thing is so ridiculous right?" She said laughing
"Oh, yeah, totally ridiculous." Shayne forced himself to laugh but stopped, he didn't want to lie to her. "Is it though?" He asked suddenly semi serious.
She froze and stared at him, "What do you mean?" she asked genuinely confused.
"I mean, why is it so ridiculous? We're two attractive young people, we have a lot in common, we have very compatible life styles, and I mean we do care about each other a lot. I mean as ridiculous ships go, there are far less plausible couples."
"Well, I mean it's ridiculous because we obviously don't have those kind of feelings for each other," she froze trying to read his face "Right?"
"What do you mean right?"
"I mean we don't do we?" She tried to confirm but he still wasn't giving anything away.
"You tell me, do we?"
"I'm so confused right now" Courtney spoke.
"Just forget it." Shayne spoke, embarrassed, he'd hoped maybe she would admit some fondness for him, but apparently not.
"No, Shayne," She could tell she'd upset him somehow and the idea that she'd caused him pain caused her pain. "Ok, fuck it. You know what, I'm just going to throw this out there. Do what you will with it, I don't expect any kind of response or anything, I just wanted you to know that I think you're really amazing, and" She couldn't think of the words to describe her feelings for him so instead she leaned across the car and kissed him on the cheek. "So there you go, now you know that."
She looked away from him down toward her window embarrassed. What was she thinking? Of course he didn't like her that way. Now she made things awkward and their friendship would be weird, ugh she just ruined everything.
Shayne sat in a stunned silence, his hand feeling his cheek where her lips had just been. What did she mean by that? "Courtney, wha-"
"Just forget about it. You don't feel the same, that's totally all right. Let's just go." She said turning the key in the ignition to start the car, she wanted out of this situation.
"Wait," Shayne spoke, reaching his hand across the car to hold onto hers over the keys. "Courtney, I think you are one of the most amazing human beings I have ever had the privilege to meet. You are so strong, and talented, and caring. How could I not.. Courtney, I've loved you since the moment I met you."
Courtney felt warm all of a sudden as a blush set over her face and she beamed in a smile. "Really?"
"It's always been you Courtney." He spoke sweetly.
Their hands moved into an interlocking hand hold over the center console of the car as they smiled at each other. Both content just being open in the presence of their favorite person, feeling that love in return.
The internet was going to loose it's damn mind over this when they found out.
"Also, something completely unrelated, but I know a girl who I think would be perfect for Damien. Tall, red hair, a mega nerd, funny, likes to write, a little younger but has an old soul. I think they would really get along."
"I bet he already knows who she is, he is psychic after all."
"Oh, right"
"Now let's fuck."
"Definitely"
