[Red Undercover]

[Levi Gribble]

A/N: It's only been two months and I'm already writing crack-pairing fanfictions? Sweet. This will come across as a bit drable-y because it is. This RWBY hiatus has me on edge guys!

Also, side note here, who's ready for the reboot of Fruits Baskets coming this spring? I'm not prepared but it will distract my mind with things other than the long wait for the next RWBY volume.

Weiss' voice echoed through the hall as people stared at her performance in awe. Thankfully, people were far too distracted in her show to notice that Ruby left unannounced. It wouldn't be too long before team RWBY started looking for her, probably for the groovy dancing (as Jaune calls it) takes place.

Making her way past the crowds of Beacon students, she made her way through the doors and outside, where the moon was brightly lit, small stars surrounding it, though Ruby paid little to no attention to them. She was far too engrossed in finding her partner, though not the one from her missions…

Roman Torchwick stood behind a corner outside, carefully disguised in the shadows, a black jacket on him as he stared at the ground. Ruby cheekily giggled as she made her way to him, her red dress swaying slightly. In a way, she was thankful that Yang was able to pick a nice number for her. Roman looked up to see her covering her mouth, giggles escaping past her lips while she stumbled towards him in her heels.

"Well aren't you just the belle of the ball?" She hummed in response, a small tint of scarlet appearing on her pale cheeks.

"Aren't you going to tell me why you're here?"

"I thought I told you that was a surprise." She looked up to stare at him in his eyes, her lips pouting ever so slightly as she collected her hands behind her.

"I've waited long enough…"

"True." He reached into the shadows of a pillar and pulled out a bouquet of roses, handing them over to Ruby.

"Wow...they're so beautiful," she gasped slightly and clasped them in her hands, taking in the scent she was all too familiar with. "Isn't this a bit too cliché? I never thought you were the type, Roman." She smiled teasingly and watched as a guilty look washed his face.

"It's the least I could do, Little Red. Your birthday's next week, and unless you want me to go inside, share a dance with you and get shot during the process, this is all I can provide."

"You're too good for me." She said jokingly.

"I know I am." His smirk was no longer tainted sinister, but looked good on his face, despite Ruby barely seeing that look on him.

"You know...we may not be able to dance inside, but what about out here?" She visibly chirped as she embraced Roman's hands with her own. She looked into his eyes and saw brief hesitation before he smirked and snuck a hand behind her waist, pulling her close.

"Would you care for a dance my lady?" She wobbled on her heels before leaning close and whispering in his ear.

"Of course. Always."

They bagan swaying to the orchestra in the hall which faintly echoed past the walls of Beacon, Roman leaning ever so slightly to press a soft kiss on the crown of her head.

She hummed quietly as she grasped his jacket and squeezed her hands around Roman's. They danced in the shadows, though as their swaying tipped carefully into the moonlight, Ruby could see the look in Roman's eyes and she was almost too thankful for the moment.

Her heart pounded in her chest, and for a split second, she wondered if it would just burst out of her and run around the quad doing summersaults. His cologne was nothing new to her as she carefully pondered how something could be so authentic to him. She felt like she was home, and for some reason, she almost felt scared.

This new sensation reminded her too much of being a Huntress. The wild sensation of battling against the creatures of Grimm; it was thrilling. As thrilling as it was though, it also felt as if she was falling. The fear of getting caught, the fear of losing him were all too well planted in her mind. There was no way Ruby could give up what she had now, even if he was the most wanted thief across all of Remnant.

Nothing in her mind convinced her enough to give up what she had, to shake her enough to tell her what she was doing was wrong, when it felt so right. The age difference, the clear occupation, who they are. And yet, despite her mind being this aware of all the ways this could go wrong, his slightest touch could bring her so much comfort, something she wasn't sure was meant to happen.

Ruby looked up at Roman, outlining his face in the shadows as the piece was ending and as she was about to open her mouth Ruby felt herself spinning, her hand still locked with Roman's. She spun in the moonlight, looking exactly how he'd imagine she'd look like when outside the shadows; beautiful.

She grabbed his free arms tightly as she finished, and as the band stopped playing, he gave a chaste kiss to her apple-red cheeks before pulling away and staring at her. Out of all the times he's stared at her this one had to be the best, not that there was much competition with all of her other expressions. Her hair was shining beneath the moon, eyes glistening that looked like they shined brighter than the stars. Her smile on her cherry lips melted a part of him in a way he'd never imagined anyone could do before and he wondered how she'd always managed to look so stunning without even realising it. He made a quick mental reminder to tell her someday.

For a second he was oh-so thankful that he was a thief, because were it not for that, he would've never met a girl such as Ruby Rose.

She must've been the true meaning of ethereal.

Before any of them could speak a word, a voice broke them apart and struck a sense of fear into Ruby's veins.

"Ruby?"

Ruby swiftly turned in the direction of the voice.

"Yang?" Ruby's voice was laced with a concern she hoped Yang couldn't hear.

"Ruby! What are you doing out here?" Ruby itched her head behind her and noticed that Roman was gone.

"Oh you know...getting some air. It's way too crowded in there so I thought I'd take a breather." For a moment, Ruby dreaded the fact that her sister could read her like an open book. Thankfully, Yang gave her a puzzling look and didn't press on.

"What are you doing here?" It took Ruby a moment to realise that Blake was talking to Sun a few feet back, by the entrance.

"Blake's going to head back early and I've still got homework to do for Mr. Oobleck's class."

"I see."

"You coming with or are you going inside?"

"Actually...I think I'm going to stay out here for a little while longer."

Yang still had the I know you're lying face but replied with: "Just be sure not to catch a cold."

"Will do!" As Yang left Ruby's line of sight Ruby's smiling expression crumbled into a somber gaze.

She didn't need to look back to know that Roman had left the party. Ruby wasn't sure if she should be thankful or disappointed by that.

We may never be together, but let us have the now.

A/N: So, here it is. I suck at conclusions so I hope I tied it up well. Let's see if some of you can spot the hidden song reference in the story. It's a 2010 song reference. Teehee.

Anyways, take care this week. Don't forget to take your meds and get enough well needed sleep. You're amazing!

Until next time!
