This is my first attempt at fanfiction. I apologize for any mistakes. This chapter is rather short, I'd try to create longer chapters later on.

Chapter One

Bella

Dearest Cullens,

Tell Renesmee that I said happy birthday. Attached is a present for her. I apologize for it being a little late, I had been a bit busy. Please come to Volterra. Especially Alice and Renesmee, for I want to show them someone. But if you can't come, I can come here with her. Thank you for reading my letter.

Sincerely,

Aro, Leader of the Volturi.

"Can? But we didn't even say he could come!" I whispered at a volume no human (or half-human) would be able to hear. We couldn't let Renesmee know.

"Technically, Bella, he's allowed to. He's the ruler of vampires." Edward whispered the word "ruler" with quite a lot of hate, scrunching his face up.

"Can we just tell him "no"?"

"Probably not."

"So what would happen if we say "no"?

"Bella, we ca—"

"Just humor me," I growl-whispered, cutting him off. "So, Edward what would happen?"

"Well, if he's in a particularly bad mood, he'd probably start planning a surprise attack."

"If we gather together the vampires who agreed to fight for Renesmee—"

"Me?" Renesmee said, walking out of her room, with Jacob behind her, trying to drag her back in.

Maybe I wasn't talking as quietly as I thought so.

"No," I lied, "I said 'Renée, Esme'."

Jacob frowned at the unnatural way I said those words. He knew they were lies.

But at least Renesmee didn't. After all, she had only turned one about a week ago.

"Go play with Jacob." Edward said.

"Sure," she replied, giggling as Jacob dragged her into her room.

Once the door was closed, I turned to Edward. This time, I made sure my voice was as quiet as I could possibly do to let Edward hear.

"As I was saying, or rather, whispering, if we gather together the vampires who agreed to fight for Renesmee, we'd probably be able to defeat the Volturi."

"Bella, it's a surprise attack. He'd wait until we've let our guard down, and then, they'd strike. Besides, can we start talking about another part of the letter? Like that 'someone'?"

"We can worry about that later. Right now, we should be worrying about the letter itself!"

"Fine, then. Bella, we have to say yes."

"But what about the others, Edward? They don't know about the letter, yet." Coincidentally, the letter had arrived when we were the only Cullens in Forks. Carlisle and Esme were in England, Emmett and Rosalie were in France, and Jasper and Alice were in Italy, but far from Volterra. Before they were gone, Esme had asked us to receive their mail while they were gone, and we found Aro's letter.

"We'll tell them." he said and went to get the phone.

After he finished all the calls, he turned to me.

"Alice can't see anything about it, but that would probably be because of Renesmee and Jacob."

I frowned. We had lost our greatest advantage: having a seer.

"They all agreed with me." Edward continued. "Saying no would be catastrophic."

I was tempted to argue more, but I realized that they were right.

"Fine," I murmured, "We'll go."
