Author's note: Hello. I haven't written here anything yet, but my current obsession with Grey's Anatomy kind of brought me here. Let's see if you like it. Thank you guys.
Chapter 1.
Things don't always work out. Situations don't always turn out the way we want. That's life. It is full of suprises and sometimes we aren't strong enough to face them.
How are we supposed to go on when we think of the past and regret certain decisions we've made? Do we hope for the better? Do we surrender and just go on like inothing has happened?
Who among us doesn't wait for the next wind of change to hit? How long does it take- a few days or years even- to witness that expecting change in our lives ? We are human. We are born to make mistakes. But how do we go on from there? There's an essence to our being , a heart and soul in the fundamental nature of our existense. Sometimes we bury it deep at the bottom of the ocean just to avoid the hurt. Sometimes we just forget how it is to be truly happy.
To not lose hope we need to have faith that an unexpected spark might hit us. Sometimes it only takes a knock on a strangers door. A phone call to an old friend or college buddy.
One lie a long time ago can destroy everything. Then, finally the truth. Years later. And everything changes. We can't stop it.
39 years old. Female. Cinnamon hair. Deep, blue-green eyes. World-class neonatal surgeon, entitled to an 25 million trust fund. Head of the OB/GYN and neonatal wings at Seattle Grace Hospital. That, in a nutshell, is Addison Forbes Montgomery. From the outside, she lives the life everyone expected from her. A former med-student who graduated college and medical school at the top of her class and worked up her way until she was the best in her field. She lived a shiny, expensive and glamorous life, never had a dull moment. From the inside, she lives a life she has meticulously planned for herself.
Every minute of her time booked weeks in advance, every face she meets and every hand she shakes carefully pre-selected by her. She doesn't sleep for more than 5 hours a night. She doesn't have the time to sleep longer. It's not in her nature to waste time. She is a kick-ass surgeon. She hasn't taken a vacation in years. She is always in control. She plans everything in her life. She is afraid that if she stops for just one second, she will remember the hole in her heart. Addison Montgomery doesn't have room for sudden changes or unexpected sparks. She made sure of that the last time one set her whole world in flames twenty-two years ago. She buried the hurt deep at the bottom of the ocean; she believes true happiness is just a mirage. She still cries, sometimes. She can't help it. She will never forget. She pretends to move on. That's what she's really good at: Pretending. But it's always there. The best part of herself she gave up. She thinks she's put up the fire but she will soon find out, that the flames are still there. Everything will change and she won't be able to stop it.
„Addie?"
Addison looked up from the chart she was reading and smiled at her friend Miranda who eyed her with a worried expression.
„Hey, what's up? Are you looking forward to meet the new interns?"
Miranda rolled her eyes.
„Not really. The bunch we got last year are hopeless cases."
Addison giggled and shook her head. That was Miranda.
33 years old. Female. Dark her and deep brown eyes. Promising general surgeon in her fourth year of residency. „The Nazi." Strong. Determined. That, in a nutshell, is Miranda Bailey. One of Addisons close friends at the hospital. Miranda was a woman who brightened up her days at Seattle Greys Hospital. She was the friend who was always bluntly honest with her. It's a what she needed to keep going.
„C'mon Miranda. They aren't that bad."
„Huh? Are you serious? They spend more time over at Joe's bar than anywhere else and they are STUPID. I have no idea how they ended up at the best teaching hospital in the country."
„Don't paint every intern with the same brush Miranda. The ones we get this year might be great. They could be the next Richard Webber, the next Preston Burke, the next Addison Montgomery oooor the next Miranda Bailey", Addison exclaimed and winked at her friend.
Miranda sighed and shook her head.
„Okay, okay. Let's wait and see. They can't be worse than the ones we already have...and just for the record: There won't EVER be another Miranda Bailey. Got it?"
Addison giggled.
„Alrighty girl."
„Hey man. Who are you? This here is the locker room for interns."
The young man looked up in confusion. Had someone just started talking to him?
„Yeah I know. It's what the door says", he replied and shut his locker to put on his coat.
„You are what? 16 or something? You can't seriously be an intern", a tall blonde girl added.
„I'm 21 years old and I AM an intern." The young man turned around and left the room. He was used to these kind of remarks. He was a genius after all.
Almost 22 years-old. Single-white-male. Dark brown hair, deep blue eyes. Dimples. About to be the youngest intern who ever graced the floors of Seattle Grace hospital. He doesn't belong to anyone anymore. He just knows that he wants to be right here. That, in a nutshell, is Andrew Parker. From the outside he lives the life his deceased parents had expected for him. A child genius who graduated highschool early, way early, and flew through medical school at Harvard on a full scholarship before he ended up here. The place he wanted to be at since he learned about HER existence.
The Parkers adopted him at birth. They were a family once. A happy, caring family. A mom and dad who supported him as soon as they noticed that their boy was special. A mom who cooked for him, a dad who took him fishing and camping. Since they died in a car accident 5 years ago, he's been under states care. The smell of his mom's perfume, the sounds of his dad's laughter. These memories all faded away with each new forster family. He had moved around so much that he cut his belongings to the bare minimum. He liked his current forster family, because they supported him financially and gave him a bed to sleep in.
But that's all they were to him: A bunch of people who helped him through his residency. He is pretty much alone and care-free.
Nothing in his life has ever been normal or typical. He's all fire and he doesn't intend to ever burn out. He has plans.
He found out about HER a few months ago. He could've gone to every hospital in the country to start his internship/residency. He opted for the best. Of course. However, his intentions weren't only professional. He wanted to meet HER. The woman, who provided the egg and the nest for nine months and then eventually find out about who HE was. The man who donated his sperm. That's all they've ever been to him. Some technicality. He buried the hurt deep at the bottom of the ocean; he believes happiness is just a mirage. Tears are for the weak. SHE doesn't even know that he is the best part of her. But she will find out soon. And everything will change.
