Pepper Stark had Peter babysit Morgan often since she moved her and Morgan back to the city after Tony's death six months prior. Tony would've never admitted it, but he would've adopted Harley, Peter, and Nebula if he had the chance. He hated kids until he met Harley then came along Peter who didn't know what it was like having a father since he barely knew kids, and then he got stuck with "Blue Meanie" who didn't understand a father's love until she met Tony.
Nebula may not have known Morgan as much as she could've, but she wasn't ready for a sister again. Not until 2012 Gamora came back into her life. Then five months ago went back into space with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Harley had barely met Morgan at the time of Tony's funeral. He spent three days at the house because he had to get back to Tennessee to his mother and his younger sister.
That only left Peter the closest in New York. It pained her to leave but someone needed to run Stark Industries and Happy had to work Stark Industries doing his job and was in constant contact with Nick Fury. Plus she couldn't ask him to watch Morgan when he was also dating Peter's aunt. He deserved to be happy like she once was.
Over time since she moved back to the city Morgan grew close. Morgan was always happy to see Peter.
Peter's phone buzzes interrupting his and Morgan's game of Avengers. Morgan insisted on being a superhero like her dad and Peter had to be Spider-man. Peter joked about wanting to be Iron-man, but Morgan insisted that since he was Spider-man he played the part.
"Hang on, Morgan," he says hopping off the ceiling to get his phone.
"We're on a mission though!" Morgan reminds him.
"Hello?" Peter says answering his phone.
"Hey, Peter, it's Pepper. It's been busy here at the office. I mean, meeting after meeting, the phones have been ringing nonstop. If I have to answer one more call about Tony or the snap I may lose it. Anyway, Happy says he has plans and I'll be another couple hours at work. Can you watch Morgan a little longer?" Pepper asks.
"Yeah. It's no problem. I just have to let my Aunt May know, but she'll be fine with it," Peter responds.
"Thank you so much," Pepper sighs in relive.
"I love spending time with Morgan. We always have fun," Peter says.
"No more climbing on the walls. I don't want Morgan trying that," Pepper tells him.
"How-?" he begins asking.
"Playing Avengers is her favorite game. I can't let her grow up thinking she can be a superhero like her dad. She's so much like Tony. It's too hard. It was hard having Tony be the hero he was. I can't go through it again," Pepper tells him.
"Okay," Peter responds understandingly.
"You could read to her or tell her a story, we have movies. Anything to distract her," Pepper suggests.
"I can always tell her stories. Is it okay if I tell her-," he begins.
"Tell her as many stories about Tony as you want. I have plenty of stories about him and so does Harley and Nebula even has a couple. I think both Happy and Rhodey have stories too. Almost every Avenger has a story about him. Including Nick Fury," Pepper says. They hang up and Peter turns around to see an upset Morgan.
"You failed the mission Peter," she says.
"How about instead of playing Avengers I tell you a story?" Peter suggests.
"No," she says.
"You sure? It's a pretty good story. It's also my favorite. If I tell it to you and you still don't like it we'll do something else," Peter suggests.
"Deal!" Morgan says climbing onto the couch. Peter transforms back into his regular clothes and takes Pepper's helmet and the costume gloves Morgan wore before sitting next to her.
"So as you know I'm Spider-man. Only a few people knew this until two weeks ago. I obviously knew, your dad, the other Avengers, your mom, Happy, my Aunt May, my best friend Ned, and a little less than a week before my girlfriend MJ. At the time this story happened MJ didn't know, but that's not the point," Peter says.
"This is a boring story," Morgan complains.
"I haven't started the story. Anyway, when it came to the Avengers I missed a lot of school, but I got good grades and was in the debate club and mathletes. I didn't think it mattered that much until I got called into the principal's office," Peter begins.
Tony walks into Midtown High in clothes Happy borrowed from his 89 year old mother. When Happy went to see his mother in her nursing home she nagged him about how he was fifty and unmarried and wouldn't give her grandchildren. He instantly regretted it. Tony shaved so he could play the part and wore a wig. They go into the principal's office and ten minutes later Pepper shows up.
"Oh my gosh! Tony, what in the world are you wearing?" Pepper asks.
"You said you weren't going to be here so I improvised," Tony responds.
"I said I may not. Next time do the smart thing and call me. Now tell me, what are you wearing?" Pepper asks.
"I dressed as Peter's mom. I borrowed clothes and nothing in your closet fit," Tony responds.
"You look like his grandmother!" Pepper says.
"Since I didn't fit your clothes I had borrow clothes from Happy's mother. He didn't want play Peter's mom and said something about not fitting the clothes. So he's playing me," Tony explains.
"Happy, you're free to go. Tony, Happy's mother is also 89. She's like a grandmother to Peter! That's why she dresses like one!" Pepper tells him.
"Well, I had to improvise since I know you said you weren't coming," Tony shrug.
"This is why we have to go to court mandated therapy," Pepper sighs.
"I thought we were going to the Avengers Tower," Peter mumbles confused.
"Quiet, adults are talking," Tony orders Peter. In truth he was just as confused as Peter was.
"I'm a little confused. You're Peter's parents? It says otherwise on his birth certificate we have on file. It also says his last name is Parker. He's been going by Peter Parker since he began here and according to transcripts well before here as well. According to them his entire school career," the principal cuts in.
"We weren't together long before Peter came along. When we agreed to raise him together we also agreed he'd live a normal life. The birth certificate is a fake under my late brother in law and sister's names. Can you imagine how swarmed he'd get if people knew he was Tony Stark's son?" Pepper lies.
"It'd be "hey, that's Howard Stark's kid!" all over again," Tony adds following where Pepper was going. Pepper takes a look at her watch and gasps.
"We need to leave. I promise that this will be the last time we- I will allow. After today I don't trust his father's judgment," Pepper says preparing to leave.
"We still need to discuss punishment for his poor attendance. Since there are clearly issues at home and he's a good kid, good grades, he keeps his extra curricular activities I guess detention the rest of the week should suffice. Beginning tomorrow? I don't see suspension or expulsion being worth anything," the principal decides.
"Sounds like a fair punishment," Pepper agrees.
"Not really," Tony comments.
"Stop talking. We have to go because we're late for our appointment and the doctor's going to charge us extra for being late. You know we're not having the court pay for our sessions, right? All cause you mouthed off?" Pepper asks Tony. Peter slowly gets up more confused than ever.
"Thank you both for coming in Mr. and Mrs. Stark. I guess I can keep the fact that you're his parents confidential," the principal promises allowing them to leave.
"Thank you for calling us in. Sorry about my husband," Pepper apologizes as Tony and Peter rush out of the office. Once they get to the parking lot Peter decides it was a good time to ask questions.
"What happened back there?" Peter asks.
"Doesn't matter. We could've said Peter was our adopted kid," Tony points out.
"No, because then we'd need adoption papers for the school. It made more sense," Pepper informs Tony.
"When did you two get married?" Peter asks.
"We didn't," Tony answers.
"We're still planning our wedding. Don't worry, you can still come," Pepper responds.
"We told the other Avengers and he wasn't able to walk into a room without one of the Avengers making fun of your dad. The entire ride there to the Avengers building I was confused until your mom and dad explained everything," Peter finishes.
"Would you be able to do that for me since Mommy says he isn't going to be around anymore? She said he isn't coming and Aunt Natasha isn't either," Morgan tells Peter.
"We would've won the fight before Captain Marvel arrived with Aunt Natasha," Peter says.
"What were they like?" Morgan asks.
"Fearless. I looked up to them both. They were both someone to remember," Peter answers.
"Will I ever meet them?" Morgan continues questioning.
"Not for a long time. They should've been here longer, but they both sacrificed themselves to save the world," Peter responds.
"Oh," Morgan says.
"I could dress up for you when you get in trouble when you get to high school like your dad did for me," Peter tells her noticing she had gotten upset she wouldn't meet Natasha or Tony until she died.
"Really?" she asks lighting up.
"Yeah, I just have to graduate in two years first. MJ says I have kind of a baby face so I look like your twelve year old brother. I think when she said that she was being mean, but then I asked Aunt May and she said I do look younger than I am. And I'm seventeen. However I won't have to borrow Happy's mother's clothes when you're in high school so I'll borrow Aunt May's," Peter laughs.
"Okay," Morgan says leaning against Peter. From then on Morgan stopped wanting to play Avengers and asked for stories of Iron-man and Black Widow and any other Avengers she never got to meet like Vision and Steve who was getting older. Peter gladly told these stories in hopes that she'd remember Tony as if he never left.
