So, this story literally came to me recently and I just had to write it! This is the only chapter that will be told from Midoriya's point of view so please do not be confused from this point on. Hayami is a very complex character and I am happy to introduce her to the series! I hope you enjoy!

Life doesn't give you what you deserve; it gives you what you settle for. She could either rot in jail or take up the scantily dressed woman's offer? It was her choice. Though, neither sounded tempting at the time.
Flying Paper Airplanes
Chapter One:
a diamond in the rough
i came here with a broken heart that no one else could see, I drew a smile on my face to paper over me, the wounds heal and tears dry and cracks they don't show, so don't be so hard on yourself, no, " – don't be hard on yourself; jess glynne
Sharp, emerald eyes stared intently into quavering green eyes as an intense aura filled the air. Not a sound or movement was made as the two separate bodies sized each other up – one obviously being more dominant and nerve-wracking than the other. It was almost comically in a sense, especially since the dominating nature was smaller in size compared to the other – its eyes staring up at the weaker individual with anything but empathy. It did not help either that the pupils within them were so slit in nature much like that of a wild animal.
Midoriya Izuku surely had no idea what he had gotten himself into.
"Thank you so much, Midoriya," Midnight's sudden appearance behind the first year was a welcomed one. Sighing in relief at the Pro's presence, he began to breathe easy as she patted him softly on the back. "I really do appreciate you volunteering to do this."
With a weak smile, Midoriya scratched his cheek sheepishly. "It's really not a problem, Midnight-san. I'm just happy to be of some help. Plus…I was sort of the only one available."
It was only yesterday that Aizawa (still heavily bandaged from the USJ Incident) made the announcement of a new student joining their ranks. The class of only 19 would soon be changing to a class of 20 within hours and someone was needed to be the new student's guide for the first couple of days. Naturally, the whole entire class wanted to do the job, but since Midoriya was the only one still recovering from the villain attack, he had the most time out of all of them.
The job was easy enough and Midoriya had enough friendliness to get it done but standing in the room with the much-anticipated student staring him down was making him have second thoughts. Midnight noticed this and in high spirits, pulled the intimidating student into the embrace of her bosom, pressing them comfortably into her breasts.
"Oh, don't be scared of her, dear," Midnight reassured with a kind smile. "She might not look it, but my niece is utterly harmless. She's really a softie – especially towards young men like you. Play your cards right and you just might get a date with her."
Midoriya's face grew increasingly pink from Midnight's comment and felt the temperature around him heighten to a peak. Sweating profoundly, he felt the world around him stop as he noticed Midnight's niece narrow her eyes at him, face completely unfazed and still from what her aunt said. Her eyes just stayed trained on him – focused and warning.
Do not cross me.
Midoriya gulped.
"Well, I'll let you two get on your way then," Midnight's voice was playfully faint as she played with the loose strands of her niece's light hair. "See you after school, my dear."
Midnight's exit came as a sad one as Midoriya realized that he would now be completely alone with her predatory niece. The uncomfortable silence came again and the air around them became five times thicker. Swallowing hard, Midoriya turned back to his new classmate with shaking nerves and was greeted once again with an intense stare.
"Um…," Midoriya's voice was weak, but after briefly scratching his dark green locks, he found his voice. "…Welcome to Yūei High School. We're really happy to have you here. I'm Midoriya Izuku, I'll be your guide for the next couple of days to help you get situated. It's really nice to meet you."
Midoriya bowed respectfully to his peer and shone his best smile towards her.
She didn't even blink.
Taking a deep breath, Midoriya began to sweat. "L-let's get t-to class! Follow me please."
The intense eye contact didn't end as Midoriya led the way to Class 1-A, in fact, it got worse, causing a sense of paranoia to develop in the freckled-faced boy's mind. It felt as though he was being stalked – almost hunted by an experienced predator. It had the hairs on the back of his neck standing, and every other glance at her didn't soothe it. She was, by all means, human, but everything about seemed almost animal. It was hard to believe that she was even related to Midnight – they didn't even favor in the slightest bit.
Though their skin tone was the same creamy peach complexion, everything else was entirely different. She was much shorter than Midnight and not as curvy, having a more athletic, slim build. Her hair was much longer and voluminous, being a silvery platinum blonde that contrast with Midnight's dark purple. Her eyes were a stunning emerald green and were similar to that of a cat's shape, and her lips were full, plump, and naturally pink. Facially, everything about her was sharper than average, but anyone a mile away could tell she was still a teenager.
She would no doubt turn some heads at Yūei, but her eyes might change that within a matter of days. As attractive she was, she was still intimidating – if not downright scary.
"Okay, here we are," Midoriya announced, stopping in front of a large door with "1-A" written on it. "Class 1-A. We have some pretty great people in our class, and they're really—."
"Hello, my name is Nonaka Hayami. I will be joining your class from this day forward. Please take care of me."
Nonaka had entered the classroom and introduced herself to the class before Midoriya could even finish his sentence – leaving the green-haired boy both speechless and dumbfounded outside the classroom. When he finally entered, she was seated in her desk towards the front of the class, pulling out a notebook to join the lecture.
Nonaka's seat was the front desk of Midoriya's rowing, making her two desks ahead of him. Without intending to, Midoriya found his eyes wandering to her a lot during lecture, watching her as she engaged in their lessons. She was silent through it all, eyes glued on their teachers (almost scaring Preset Mic) and participating in-class activities, but she looked severely uncomfortable.
She would fidget and pull on her school uniform as if she had never worn one before, every time someone raised their hand to answer a question she would grow tense and turn immediately to their direction, and when taking notes she would often look at her notebook with knotted brows and a deep frown. If Midoriya didn't know better than he could have sworn she had never schooled before.
"That can't be right," He pondered, looking back at his notes. "Everybody's been in school before."
By the time lunch came around, Midoriya had Nonaka by his side once again, leading her to the school's cafeteria while also being petrified of making any eye contact with her. He wasn't the only one either. Nearly everyone in Class 1-A was avoiding direct eye contact with the blonde girl (sans for Kacchan who took it as a challenge). Even Iida who had the dignity and respect to look you in the eye was having a hard time looking at her.
Nonaka had joined the golden trio for lunch and was sitting directly in front of Iida, eyes focused on him as she ate her lunch mainly consisting of meat. If her stare wasn't bad enough, seeing her open her mouth with large, sharp canines didn't help either. This was by far their most awkward and fearful lunch period ever.
"So…Nonaka," Uraraka chirped, pulling a friendly smile. "You're Midnight's niece, correct?"
At the question, Nonaka paused in her chewing for a moment before slowly swallowing. "Yeah…"
"That must be exciting!" The brunette cheered, trying her best to bring some ease to their table. She then elbowed Iida roughly. "Right, Iida?"
"Ow—Oh-h! Right!" Iida tried his best to replicate his smaller friend's smile though rather a bit too toothy. "To have such an esteemed Pro-Hero as a relative is truly a great honor! I come from a family of heroes as well!"
Uraraka nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, Iida's like filthy rich—!"
"Uraraka!"
"And his older brother is the Pro Hero, Ingenium!"
Iida groaned at the brunette. "Having fun bragging about my family, are you?"
"You bet!" Uraraka beamed with a smile.
Midoriya let out a chuckle from his friends' interaction, nibbling a bit on his own rice. For a quick second, he glanced over at Nonaka but found his eyes staying on her form. For the first that day, her eyes weren't intense or even intimidating – they were a little softer and almost curious like. They were aimed directly at Iida and Uraraka who were still interacting with each other. Neither noticed her stare – or better words could feel it. As they joked and played, Nonaka watched them in wonder, head tilting to the side like that of a curious animal.
That would be the only time that day Midoriya would ever see Nonaka in that light. Once lunch was over, it was back to their usual school routine, and like before, Nonaka returned to her dominant nature.
By the time training period came around, the sun was high in the sky and the students of Class 1-A were itching to get out their classroom. Since Midoriya was still recovering, he could only sit on the sidelines and observe as the rest of his class engaged with training on Ground Beta. All Might was over the training today, so it was an extreme game of Hide and Seek.
"HAHAHA!" All Might's boisterous voice boomed through the speaker system as he observed all the students from the control room. "What an excellent, yet fun way to have everyone exercising their skills in a stress-free environment! I'M A GENIUS!"
"It's a good idea, All Might! But was making Kacchan "it" the best choice?" The green-haired boy questioned, watching a monitor of Kacchan tackling an unsuspecting Kirishima with an explosion.
"Hm…you might have a point there, Young Midoriya!" All Might nodded.
Within 30 minutes of the session, almost all of Class 1-A was in the monitor room with All Might and Midoriya. The only ones left out in the field were Iida and Hayami, and from the monitors on the screen, no one exactly knew where she was.
"DIE!" Kacchan exclaimed, blasting straight into Iida and knocking him into a nearby building.
"C-curses, Bakugou," Iida heaved in pain, picking himself from the wall he was in. "You seem to have caught me."
"You losers weren't even a challenge!" Kacchan scoffed, jumping upon a streetlight. "Now where's that new, freaky extra!? I've been wanting to blow her ass up since that crazy look she gave us this morning."
Everyone watched as Kacchan scanned the battleground for any sign of their new classmate. With everyone gone, it looked like a ghost town, but there was still one lone student remaining against the explosive boy.
"You know, to be quite honest, I haven't seen Nonaka since the locker rooms, ribbit," Tsu commented thoughtfully, placing a finger to her chin.
"Yeah, I haven't seen her either," Ashido said.
"Oh! What if her Quirk is Invisibility! She could be invisible like me!" Hagakure chimed happily.
"I don't quite think so," Ojiro sweatdropped with a weak smile.
"Oh, I found her and she's wearing her costume just how I li—."
Tsu slapped her tongue against Mineta's cheek before he could finish his comment; however, everyone had already found what screen he was looking at. Hayami was planted on the shadowy edge of a building, lurking from the shadows with glowing green eyes at Kacchan. Moving carefully across the edge with ease, Nonaka slowly came into light, giving the Class 1-A a better look at her hero costume.
Nonaka wore a black bodysuit, covering her hands, feet, and neck. It was outlined with thin, glowing green lines from her arms and from her chest to her legs with a glowing, small triangle on her chest. She wore no boots or gloves and had the costume area covering the tips of her hands removed to reveal sharp claws. On her back were two swords with green gilts and attached to her hip was a lasso of green rope.
From everyone's perspective, the blonde looked like an assassin.
"Um…what's her Quirk again," Kaminari asked aloud, a sweatdrop dripping from his cheek.
"She never said," Midoriya answered faintly, eyes trained on Nonaka as she leaped from building to building in a skilled acrobatic pattern. Kacchan had yet to locate her, so Midoriya was curious as to why she was now on the move.
"There you are, you freak!" Kacchan stretched his mouth into an ugly grin as he began to launch himself in the air with blasts, spiraling up at her at a vicious speed. However, before Kacchan could even lie a hand on her, Nonaka backflipped into the air and kicked him in the back, sending him flying into another a building. Class 1-A went silent.
"Did she just…," Uraraka breathed with wide eyes.
"…Send Kacchan into a building with one kick," Midoriya finished.
"Yo, does this chick even know how to play hide and seek!?" Mineta exclaimed.
Nonaka landed gracefully on her feet and walked to the other side of the roof she was on to look at the building she kicked Kacchan in. Peering down at the hole, her body immediately shifted to the side as a furious Kacchan flew directly at her with an arm outreached to grab her. As if viewing things in slow motion, Nonaka grabbed a hold on Bakugou's arm and swung him over her body onto the ground, causing a painful groan to exhale from the boy's mouth. Immediately afterward, she twisted her body to flip over him and to land on top of him, straddling him and tying Kacchan's hands up with her rope.
"Game over," Nonaka said blankly. She then aimed her sights towards the nearest camera, causing everyone to tense (even All Might) in the monitor room. "Do I win now?"
"Damn…you," Kacchan heaved in angst. "Who…the fuck…you think you are!?"
Nonaka blinked. "Clearly the winner."
"YOU BITCH!" Using all his strength, Kacchan flung himself the hardest he could towards Nonaka, but with ease the blonde pushed him back down, putting all of her weight on him. Kacchan growled but she wasn't fazed by none of it.
"You're clearly powerful," She commented truthfully. "But a true hunter knows the value of silence when attacking. I suggest you learn that."
Without another word, Nonaka lifted herself off of Kacchan and untied her rope from his hands.
The dynamic in the class wasn't quite the same after training. Within a day, Nonaka had caused the entirety of Class 1-A to feel extremely comfortable (sans Kacchan who was extremely angry). No one truly knew what to feel about her. She was a cat – you could barely tell what she was feeling because she showed no emotion, but she was constantly watching and stalking you. She was definitely a puzzle, and she was Midoriya's responsibility for the next couple of days.
At least he someone survived the first day with her.
"Well, it's the end of the day," Midoriya informed awkwardly, scratching his head. He was standing at the school's gate with Nonaka, eyes still glued to the ground due to his resistance to look her in the eye. "Oh! Um…here's my number. In case you have any questions or need help with anything."
With a shaking hand, Midoriya outreached his number to Nonaka, who for the first time took her eyes of him and aimed them at his hand. She looked at it for a moment before taking it. Sighing in relief, Midoriya felt a sharp tug on his arm and within minutes found his sleeved pulled up with Nonaka writing something on his arm.
"My number," She informed, releasing his arm. Looking at his arm, Midoriya saw it was written in marker with sloppier handwriting he would expect from a girl. "In case…you have any questions…or need help."
"Oh…um, yeah, right," Midoriya tried his best to withhold the blush that crept upon his face, stopping himself from pushing down his sleeve so the number wouldn't smudge. "I guess…I'll see you tomorrow then. I hope you had a great day."
Nonaka merely nodded, taking her leave without giving Midoriya a second glance.
Midnight's condo was an environment Hayami initially had to get used to. Located on the upper parts of Musutafu, the three-bedroom living quarters was an upgrade from what the blonde was used to. Wooden gray floors, slick black interior, and stylish dark furniture and décor – it was a place she thought she would never have the liberty of living in without some illegal business. Even now, as she was parched on the center spot of Midnight's sofa, glancing over the lively nightlife of Musutafu, she felt nothing but disbelief at her situation.
A common criminal like herself living with such ease without a cost. She never thought herself that lucky.
Sighing, she returned her attention to her notepad, pencil gracefully moving across the pencil in tender thought. Hayami was working on the blushes of her masterpiece, her mind thinking of Kirby and soft, round things as she finished the last blush.
"Bubbly and sweet," Hayami thought, holding the drawing back and getting a good look at the picture she drew of Uraraka.
"Nice work," Midnight hummed, appearing behind the blonde. The 18+ Hero had long discarded her heroic attire and was now in a comfortable lavender pullover with house shoes on and her spiky hair pulled into a ponytail. In her hand, she lazily held a cup of wine. "You caught her innocence well. Did you two become friends today."
"Not exactly," Hayami confessed, flipping to a new page. "But she was nice; she reminds me of a peach…and Kirby."
"Hmm," Midnight nodded, taking a drink from her cup. "Did you make any friends today?"
"…Everyone was sort of afraid of me," Hayami's voice was soft as she spoke, eyes trained carefully on her pencil as she moved, though Midnight didn't ignore how her rhythm slowed. "Kind of hard to make friends when people tense up when you look at them."
"To be fair, Hayami, you do always look people down. Can you really blame them for reacting in such a way?"
Hayami scoffed. "But that's how I read people, Midnight. I can't help that – it's instinct. I can't just turn off what I've used as a survival mechanism for the past six years."
"But things have changed," Midnight reaffirmed with a stern tone. "You're not living on your own in the streets anymore. You have a home now, and you're attending school. Things are easier now."
Hayami stopped her pencil. "Midnight…why do you have me here?"
Sighing, Midnight placed her glass down and took a seat next to Hayami on the couch. Sitting in silence, the hero then began to play in her ward's long hair. "I have you here so you can become a hero."
"People like me just don't become heroes," Hayami answered harsh tone.
"…no, they don't," Midnight said softly. "But you have a chance to. It won't be easy, Hayami, but you have a chance to rewrite the destiny already planned for you. Don't back down from it now that it's hard."
"…your faith in me is rather disturbing, Midnight. Be careful or I might rob you blind."
Midnight chuckled twirling her hair. "I'll have you in my whip before you could even leave."
In the dead of night, the two roommates laughed with each other, soon retiring to their respective rooms with swift goodnights.
With her lights off, Hayami allowed the activity of Musutafu to fill her room with light as she laid motionless in her bed. She often went to bed later than Midnight – her body too adjusted to nightlife from her many escapades. It was weird how her life could change in a matter of mere weeks – how one bad night gave her the life she always dreamed of having.
Of course, it came with some type of price.
"You could rot in jail or either become a hero? It's your choice, my dear."
Hayami was sure that night Midnight was a witch, but as the weeks went by the provocative hero turned out to be more than the girl could have imagined. She had given her a home and hope for a better tomorrow – which was why she hadn't left yet.
Lifting herself from her pillow, Hayami dug into the soft material and pulled out a prized diamond brooch with sapphire and pearls surrounding it. The night she was arrested, she was able to hide it from being confiscated from her during the arraignment. Selling it would have set her for a long time – that was her initial plan upon agreeing to go with Midnight. She would just wait for the right moment and then skip town without another a second thought.
But the moment never came, or in other words, she never took it.
Midnight had successfully sold the dream of becoming a hero to her and now the ex-criminal was invested in it. All she ever wanted was a better life and if becoming a hero would achieve that then she would at least try it.
Putting the brooch back in her pillow, Hayami pulled a piece of paper from her notepad and began to fold it. It was an activity she used to do with her mother – the sweet memory being one of the few from her childhood. Opening her window, she held the folded paper tightly in her hand and taking a deep breath, released it. The paper airplane soar into the night, leaving Hayami with a renewed spirit budding in her body. She watched it as it flew, a small smile gracing her pink lips.
"Please take me far."
