Hello! So this is a new story that im writing let me know what you think! I will still be working on At Night but I thought I would just get this idea out there first. So with this story the first few chapers are going to take place over the span of 20 years or so. In this chaper Meredith is 4 years old.
"You little whore!" She heard her mother screech from above. "What is it that I have to do to get you to listen to me when I talk to you!"
Her hair was tied back tightly in two braids that swung to her shoulders. She wore a red skirt and white t-shirt that her mother threw on her that morning in the rush of whatever was going on this time. She had been used to her parent's constant bickering but it had never once gotten this bad. Meredith Grey sat in her once filled room that was now empty in confusion, she got up and ran to the closet that was once filled with toys and clothes. Confused the young little girl walked out of her room and down the hallway when she walked the screams got louder and louder. She sat at the last step on the wooden staircase just waiting for it to subside, she could feel the tears run down her face.
"Fuck off! All I have ever done for you is give you everything you ask for. And this is what you do? This is why we are leaving! This is why you will never see her again! " she heard the yelling continue.
"Well if this isn't perfect! You will have even more stuff to say now to your boyfriend bitch! Leave get out of my sight!" with that, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
She got up immediately and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Mommy what is going on?" she asked in confusion.
"Nothing Meredith just get in the car!" Her mom said as she picked up her bag.
"But mommy? Isn't daddy coming with us?"
"Meredith get in the God damn car!" she yelled louder.
Obeying her mother, she climbed in her car seat and awaited her mothers help to buckle up. Ellis Grey but the rest of the bags in the back of her car and slammed the door shut with anger. She made her way over to her four-year-old daughter in her car seat, Meredith knew how to lock herself in, she just didn't know how to tighten it.
"Jesus Christ Meredith you need to learn how to do this on your own, you are not going to be coddled all your life." She said cold and harsh which made Meredith wince.
"Mommy why isn't Daddy here?" Meredith asked they had been on the road for about eight hours. Still clueless to where they were going the least she could do was ask.
"Daddy didn't want us in his life anymore and couldn't accept that I was doing better then he was. You just have to get used to it sweetheart he was a selfish prick that won't be in our lives anymore," Elis said without hesitation.
Meredith loved her father and it broke her heart to hear that he didn't love her as she loved him. She couldn't cry because she knew that it would upset her mother so she contained her emotions. The heartbreaking thoughts overfilled her mind and she was consumed by sleep before she knew it.
GAGAGAGAGAGA
One week later the two Grey girls arrived in a town just outside of New York City. The town seemed quiet for the big city being almost minutes away. Meredith woke up to the car coming to a slow stop, she peered out the window to see a very brown house that seemed empty and dark. Her mother had seemed to calm down but it was almost always a hit or miss and she didn't want to risk anything to she was going to do the best of her ability to behave. She unbuckled her own seatbelt and got out of the car. Across the street, she saw a group of six kids staring at her and her mother. She lifted up her hand and waved, three of them looked a lot older than Meredith but the others looked to be somewhat around the same age.
"Meredith will you please get over here and help me, then you can go inside and pick your brand new room that you can paint whatever colour you like but only if you grab your own bag," Elis claimed. Meredith rushed over and grabbed her bag and ran inside excited to see all the things her new house entailed.
That day they spent settling into there new home. They didn't have a lot to do because Elis just bought the furniture that was in the house when it was on the market.
"Hey mommy, I was wondering if we could go on a walk to see the new neighbourhood?"
"I'm sorry Mer but I have just to much stuff to figure out, I have to figure out what I'm going to do with you-" Elis was interrupted by the doorbell. She got up fro the table she was previously sitting at and set down the phone, She let out a sigh.
The door opened to revile a Women who looked a little older then Elis and had short brown hair that rested at her shoulders. She wore a long grey sweater that went past her knees and a light blue shirt underneath and blue jeans. She was accompanied by a little boy who looked about Merediths age. He had dark hair and bright blue eyes, he was wearing shorts with a green t-shirt. He was hiding behind her legs.
"Hi, I'm Carolyn Shepherd and this is my youngest Derek. We live across the street and we just wanted to say welcome to the neighbourhood, earlier today we baked a few batches of cookies and thought it would be nice if we brought a batch over." Carolyn had a very sweet voice. Meredith ran over to her mom to see what was taking such a long time. When she looked up and saw the strangers she immediately crashed into her mother's leg. Carolyn extended her arm to had the cookies to Elis and she graciously excepted.
"Hello, I'm Elis Grey and this is my daughter Meredith. We just moved from Seattle. Thank you so much for the cookies," Elis said in an awkward tone, almost waiting for them to go away.
"Hi Meredith," Carolyn said sweetly. "How old are you?"
"Um four," the little girl said in a shy sweet voice.
"oh, my son is five, there are no other kids really around that age in this neighbourhood. Maybe you and he could play sometime." She said looking down at Meredith which made her hideaway even more but shook her head in response. "Ok well, we are going to head on home. It was lovely meeting you and if you need anything I put our phone on the note!" She said as the two stepped down from the front porch.
Elish shut the door and mumbled something under her breath and made her way to their new kitchen looking around for something to make for dinner. She found a can of soup and heated it up for the two of them. "Meredith comes down and eat your soup", she yelled from the kitchen. Meredith came running down the stairs, sat at a countertop and ate part of her soup before running back upstairs to continue to play we her dolls.
Picking up the piece of paper attached to the cookies and stared at the phone number.
GAGAGAGAGAGA
The next few days were almost identical in every way. Elis would have work, a babysitter would come and Meredith would do whatever her mom gave her to do. There wasn't a lot of toys there for her to play with so she got creative by exploring her new old house looking for hidden passages, making fortresses but tearing them down before her mom came home, and every once and a while she would play outside. She would always go over and look at the house across the street. It was always so alive while hers seemed to be dead. always a mix of yelling, screaming, and laughter leaching from its walls. It made her long for her father. almost every time a car would go by the house she would run up and gaze out the window hoping it pulled in the driveway, but she was never lucky.
One sunny afternoon Meredith was doing what she usually did and sat on her front porch. They had a swing that she really enjoyed but always scraped her ankles whenever she would try and go as fast as she could. Meredith was gazing over to the shepherd house across the street when the little boy that was usually running around terrorising his sisters was making his way across the street to her house. Meredith had on a purple sundress that her father gave her for her birthday one year and her hair in pigtails.
"My momma told me that I had to come over and ask you if you wanna play with me," He looked over his shoulder to see his mother standing across the street. " but I don't want to play with a girl, but my actual best friend is sick. So do you wanna look for bugs with me in my yard?" the five-year-old asked confidently. Meredith was a nodded her head in response because she really didn't have anything else to do and her babysitter wasn't paying attention to her anyway.
"My name is Derek. My mom told me your name but I don't remember," he said as they walked to the house.
"I'm Meredith," she said quietly.
"Ok this is where I usually find them," he said as he pointed to a pile of dirt in the grass. the two sat down and Meredith found the first bug it was rollie pollie according to Derek. They sat there digging threw dirt for almost an hour when he suddenly shot up. "I have a better idea. your house is like haunted right, what if we looked for ghosts?" he turned to her and said.
"My house is not haunted!" Meredith exclaimed as she threw dirt at him.
"Is too!" Derek said throwing dirt at her back.
"No!"
"Yeah! My sister told me that she heard it from out other older sister who herds it from our other older sister that daddy said it was haunted to her when she was like five years old," he said yelling trying to prove a point.
"No your sister lied to you because I've never seen a ghost! your house is haunted. I've seen a ghost one-time walk across your yard at night!" She yelled. Derek's face became serious.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes!"
"Ok do you wanna look for it with me?" He asked.
"No ghosts are scary!"
"Meredith Elizabeth Grey! What are you doing over there?" The yell of Elis broke up their conversation. Meredith got up quickly and made her way across the tin street that they shared. "Oh my god, Meredith look at you! You're disgusting! I taught you better than this. Where is Anna? I have some choice words for her." She yelled impatiently as she dragged Meredith inside. Derek stood and waved goodbye to Meredith, which she tried to return but it was too late.
so let me know what you think!
