The manga is pure cruelty incarnate that should have never exist.
There are lots of problems more like Magical Girl Apocalypse, It exist maybe because of Puella Magi Madoka Magica inspired this since he was doing Magical Girl apocalypse. Well it pursumably exists to show how "too dark" this manga is like Madoka Magica.
This manga was picturing itself to be the next Puella Magi Madoka Magica but in reality, it is a magical girl equivalent to the Nutcracker the untold story 3D. It lacked any originality and looks almost look like a dark unfunny parody which borrows elements from Madoka Magica in what if the witches are the ones who gave girls magical powers and then kill them.
The reason it is made was that it tries to be Higurashi and Elfen lied but with magical girls in the modern day. However it doesnt do that quite well.
It is unintentionally offensive because it just shows how humans behave as selfish people who are cruel and remorseless.
The theme of Misfortune is misleading like in which it just makes us think we were sore losers who dont deserve to be born.
It feels dirty and more meanspirited in writing or illustrating the story to all of this disgusting mess of a manga.
The author doesnt care how many characters he would kill off is just wasted. That is just a poor man's inspiration of Game of Thrones where all your favorites are killed off.
Aya is of course, a pointless, yet weak character who is being treated like a mary sue and a punching bag for many reasons at all.
She comes off as frightened girl, showing how she acts like any wimpy characters.
She never tells her teachers and parents at all.
She is sometimes misdirection-less whenever she tries anything to save herself or her friends and family.
Rina Shioi is your typical masochist and once an "unpopular loser", who first was an unheroic, yet psychotic magical girl who lashes out those who bullied her.
Kichiro Misumi was first a pointless character who kidnaps Kaname in his house rather arresting him making it a pointless plot hole.
The art ranges from hideousness and utterly disgusting in every chapter that just makes the readers sick to their stomachs and sickens to read. For example, There are lots of over the top gore, even the characters faces are hideous. It feels like a shocking magical girl porno which is just unsettling to read. There is the infamous volume 13 cover where it depicts Aya's father smiling with blue lips when he uses the panties is awfully an ugly cover and looks like hes trying to do a different joker expression.
Poor characterization especially of the minor characters who are forgettable and one dimensional cardboard cut outs only to act as abysmal, some of them are like psychotic like any Batman villain:
Aya's teachers are lazy and terrible characters who never pay any attention on Aya's bullying.
Aya's parents are also neglectful. Even Aya's mother is incredibly a weak minor character who has been enduring abuse by her husband and still unaware of his son's whereabouts.
Keisuke Naoto, A fan of Nijimin is your typical unfunny comic relief, that everyone doesnt care.
the villains from the series are horribly hated,forgettable,racist, unlikeable, xenophobic, nasty, underdeveloped and just plain bad, who don't care if they're evil and are protray like Batman villains and psychos and are still one dimensional cardboard cutouts than the minor characters.
The Site admins are forgettable and looked too creepy and ugly in their appearance. There apperances are uninspired and lazily drawned, but tries to look similar to the Magical girl alternatives, that are emotionless. However, These site admins are rip offs of every horror villain ever.
Kaname was really a bad villain for this series who's nothing else ,hateable, unlikeable, unapolegetic, and yet acting as an over the top villain. He is somewhat of a rip off of Lelouch Vi Brittania, from Code Geass Lelouch of the rebellion and Light Yagami from death note, if both were horribly written. It was now bad wnough being a mentally cruel older brother to Aya, using her as punching bag without mercy to relieve his stress for fun, but kaname is a massive hypocrite because his father was a domestic abuser who beats Kaname up if he doesnt get perfect score on his grades and tests to enter college. As much as he think it sucks, that still doesnt excuse hum for being a sociopathic scumbag.
Kaname's irritating monologue was that he hates people that blame their lot in ithers and drag them down out of self righteous sense of worth (thats because of his father's negative influence). and when he ranted an otaku idol, Keisuke, obsessed on Nijimi, he said that he hates how Keisuke like him, think idols are the propertt of their fans. This is the same boy who not only abuses Aya, but also tricked Nijimi by using her magic stick to manipulate other magical Girls.
Aya's father is also horrible just like his son Kaname, who protrays like a greedy, disciplining homeschool teacher who only cares about his son's education and wants him to study hard. Mr Asagiri is less sadistic and a cruel liar than his son if he was to beat him up
Despite being selfish, Mr asagiri uses Nijimi's panties to control anyone that he wants despite never having acknowledgements about the Magical Girl Site in order to keep Kaname from studying rather than stopping the site admins, maybe it's likely that he was once in college and failed which led him to overreact for many years to make sure his children will meet up his expectations. Even though he wouldnt stop thinking about the incident in college that ruined his life, Mr Asagiri would kill his Wife's second child inside the womb. Even though he never cared about whats happening to the world, he ends up losing his lifespan while stopping a site admin.
Just like his son, Mr Asagiri lacks any redeeming qualities because he only cares much Kaname's academic performance, even his irritating monologue shows him that he was a racist who thinks he and his son are superior of their education as going to college is "fullfilling dream".
Alice Misumi is an unlikeable ally who betrays the girls for no reason at all.
Even the bullies are completely out of motivation and lacked any redeeming qualities. They're just one dimensional who dont care they would bully others.
Sarina, Aya's bully, is a total jerk who has no character development and only cares about picking on the weak for no reason. Since her friend Erika died by Aya's in accident, she starts to become a deranged lunatic who uses a boxcutter to slit Aya to the tougn for no reason. Even though It is possible Sarina was neglecte dor abused
Erika is one of those hateful villains because she is cruel and mean towards people such as Aya. She is often worst as Sarina even Erika has no motivation only to make Ayas life miserable and her death is completely pointless
Ai Kawano is cowardly bully who acts as she was being cursed when her friend Erika was killed and Sarina getting slit to the throat while she was trying to stop her from using Despite she is not evil, she is just a cowardly dimwit who doesnt care if she bullies Aya or else. In later chapters, Ai is completely forgotten. Even she would be better off a victim of bullying because she was a follower.
Shota Arai is a pointless minor who is Flash Thompson's perverted, yet deranged, cousin (just lying) Tries to act like a creepy, Boogeyman who rapes Aya by Sarina and her friends. This character is awfully forgettable who acts like a deranged Flash Thompson from the Spider-Man comics.
Melisa is a pointless villain who bullies Kayo for money and not else. In the anime, she was thought to be a magical girl but that didnt happen while in the manga, she is instead living in a prostitute home.
The Magic sticks are only used when there lifespan fades as more the sticks they used. Which is a pointless concept some of the sticks are useless:
Aya's gun is useless because she can only teleport anything.
Alice's flipphone can only be used to reverse time which looks similar to Killer queens ability from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: diamond is unbreakable.
The fight scenes with the King and the site admins are boring, rushed because of the girls would lose their lifespans while using their sticks.
The later chapters are formulaic and tries finding ways to defeat a villain. even these characters are trying to be smart enough to fight them.
Some of the chapters are less nasty, bizarre and a more mean-spirited like the infamous volume 13 in which Aya's father is revealed that Aya is not his child because he had killed his real second child years ago by punching his wife's womb.
Hinomoto is revealed to be Aya's biological father which was first controversial like he was too young to have children. In the last chapter,it was retconned that Hinomoto was actually been taking the form of 14 year old.
The writer who made this has no experience, but was trying to take or treat people indark regions of humanity so that the happy scenes seen happier. But, sadly, the manga is coming across less like he wants to make readers feel good and more like he just wants to stand out by using shock tactics.
Shock value is nothing without intelligence behind it and what draws everyone in. The author is not really trying to draw everyone in. Only just the gifted few who can see how unique a person is.
The series is a confusing attemptted mess of a manga artist to make himself seem like an artist to select few that sees his uniqueness and disturbing that makes readers not only dumb but at the same time make someone feel dirty.
In the ending, Aya rewrote humanity's memories into happiness which is a lazy cheap plot hole to begin with. It was pointless because readers can be very confused on whats going on and makes Madoka Magica look like what if Madoka had lived and exists in the end. Likely, they would wish if they wanted a direct continuation to find the solution.
The Seven Seas Entertainment translation has nasty yet unnessesary swearing as theyre treating the characters as xenophobic as possible in a manga for 15-17 year olds.
The manga also had a spin off called Magical Girl Site Sept, which is infamous of its depiction of sexual assault of a teenage girl and is now pregnant.
Redeeming qualities:
The author's predecessor, Magical Girl Apocalypse is better and much tolerable to read.
The King is a decent yet sympathetic villainess who only cares of bringing an end to the world and turn i ntoher utopia
The art style can be beautiful and cute.
It is revealed to be a shared universe to Magical girl apocalypse
Aya does grow into a harmless weakling to a brave girl
Asahi, Sayuki and Kichiro are pretty much decent characters who dont have psychological problems.
Nijimi's death was also sad.
Sarina does regret her bullying
A happy ending for Aya and her friends.
It can be enjoyably nasty to read.
