Chapter 1

16 Lyons Court, Forks, WA…

Dropping the heavy Rubbermaid plastic bin onto the round wooden kitchen table directly to her right, twenty one year old Juliette Adams winced as she felt the weight of the clothing stuffed gym bag sliding down her arm as it landed to the wet floor with a thump. Glancing around at the small kitchen that was badly in need of an update, she was happy to see a toaster, kettle, coffee maker and microwave that looked to be of recent purchase.

"Find a furnished place to live, check" she spoke to herself as she disappeared back out the kitchen door to grab the last two boxes out of the trunk of her Jeep Wrangler. Kicking the door closed behind her as she dropped the last two boxes, she shrugged off her soaking wet red jacket and hung it over the back of a wooden chair.

Keeping her boots on, Juliette grabbed her gym bag and hauled it back over her shoulder as she wandered through the kitchen and living room before finding the small bedroom and bathroom. Accepting the lower floor fully furnished rental unit over the phone without seeing any pictures had been a lingering sinking feeling that had refused to die during her entire drive to Forks from Texas. But now that she had arrived and taken the keys from the upstairs elderly woman, she could finally sit comfortably.

"Two hundred and twelve days of rain per year…what day is this?" she wondered to herself as she unzipped her bag. Pulling out her black SWAT boots, she sat them on the floor to prop the door open before returning to the rest of the items in the bag. Pulling out the meager personal items that she had chosen not to sell for extra cash, Juliette stacked everything on the one bedside table before glancing at the time on her phone.

"Groceries and gas are much needed."

Forks Community Hospital, 530 Bogachiel Way, Forks, WA

Hearing the slight creak of his leather chair as he leaned forward, the handsome blond Doctor reached a cold hand forward and double clicked on the recently sent email video link.

"Hi Carlisle!"

Feeling his lips twitching into a small smile as his granddaughter Renesmee's wide toothy smile filled up the screen, Carlisle leaned back and propped up his chin with the back of his hand as voices passed by his closed office door out in the hallway.

"It's my birthday in less than two weeks and you haven't come to visit in almost a year!"

Clearing his throat as more voices sounded out in the hallway, he glanced down at his watch and stood to his feet while grabbing his white medical coat from the back of his chair. Closing the lid of his laptop, he sighed while making his way to the closed door in the darkness of his office. Blinking slowly as he stepped out into the dull overcast light that streamed in from the windows, he moved with grace as his ears picked up on the light pings of raindrops that ran down the glass panes.

It had been nearly a year since he had seen any of his children and nearly two years since his beloved Esme had suffered a tortured death at the hands of the Volturi.

Tucking his chin into his chest as he rounded the nurses' station towards the ER, Carlisle Cullen breathed in deeply as he mentally counted the remaining days before the closing sale on the house that had once been a happy home just outside of town.

Five more days until Forks is a distant memory among many others

950 S Forks Ave, Forks, WA…

5:23pm

Pulling out of the Thriftway parking lot, Juliette cursed under her breath as her window fogged almost immediately. Spying the glowing sign of the Shell gas station that she had passed entering into town hours earlier, she pulled in and took the last space that was the only one not covered by the protective roof.

"Christ," Throwing open her door, she immediately pulled up the hood of her red rain jacket just as a gust of wind threatened to blow it back.

I love the rain…I love the rain…I love the rain…

Grabbing the pump handle, Juliette shoved it into the fuel tank opening and began humming the notes of a familiar song just as her eyes fell on a pristine looking black Mercedes S55 AMG pulling into the far spot beneath the canvas.

Of course the Mercedes would get a covered spot

Hearing the click of the full tank, she replaced the handle and jogged into the station flipping her hood back as she smoothed a hand to straighten her hair. Standing in line to pay, she fished out her Blackberry and thumbed through her email just as the ding of the store door opened once more. Feeling a slight shiver as a raindrop fell down the back of her neck, Juliette stepped up for her turn to pay and immediately narrowed her eyes.

Why do I feel like someone is watching me?

Handing over exact change, she turned slightly and saw no one behind her as she shoved her wallet back into her pocket.

Paranoid much?

Jogging back out into the rain, she quickly pulled open her door and tucked herself into the dry car just as the Mercedes slowly pulled out in the opposite direction. Reaching the corner, she flicked on her left turn signal and watched as the Mercedes pulled out before her in the same lane.

"Must be a Doctor or Lawyer," she whispered to herself as she desired nothing more than a hot shower and joggers before prepping for her big day.

9:01pm

Tossing her towel aside, she sat down on the edge of her single bed and pulled her file folder onto her lap as she pulled out the documents required for the Police Station. Thumbing through her mobile, she smiled at the email sent from the Chief of Police himself welcoming her to his Station in Forks Washington.

"Alright Jules, you've made it all the way through college and the Academy. You are less than twelve hours from being sworn in as Forks's newest Police Officer."
