The last of his kind he was, a gentle old creature, left alone in a universe - lost.
He took on the promise, the name of the Doctor, even though he knew what his name would cost.
A lonely old Time Lord, though his face would belie it, With a deep rooted desire to heal,
He would spend his life running to try to correct and repair What evil would ravish and steal.
This man owed them nothing, not a cent, not a hair, It was all his own design and his game.
Tumbling along, dashing through time's windy tunnels, Listening for a voice that called out to his name.
He had no home that he could travel away to, No family awaits his return.
So he tumbles and travels, running and running, Watching planets and stars fall and burn.
His heartbreaking longing, is that every so often, He meets someone great along the way,
And each time he hopes, then each hope it is dashed, As mortals can not ever stay.
Their memory - it shapes him, but guaranteed it would crack, every bone in his body to hate,
He despises the fact that he is destined to lose them, and he curses and curses his fate.
Oh, sometimes he mopes on a cloud way above them, and sometimes dives headlong in his work,
Running and running to keep up with the evil, forgetting that his own hearts are hurt.
With each shot that misses him from a Dalek's quick gun, and Tardis doors close quickly behind him,
He cheats death once more and over again, running from enemies who dared try to find him.
The thrill keeps him going, as he hides from the shadow, that grief tries to cast on his mind,
Running because maybe, just maybe he'd forget, maybe his brain would be kind.
But with each passing hour, and day, year, and century, he'd find the memories they came along too,
He always remembered - that was his lot, and sometimes at night he was glad that they do.
He keeps trying to win each battle he fights, as companions fall lost by the way,
And each time he hurts and he gets up again, as the years keep on passing away.
Then he tries to be strong, and stay out of the fight, Tries to train his two heart's love to be dry.
But though it takes something from him, each time he gives in - Whenever he hears children cry.
Dedicated to Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi.
As always, read and review! They are highly motivating :) stay safe out there and as the Doctor would say, always be kind!
