He couldn't believe it, the noises above his bed were clearly Blaise and Theo making out, and it was making him extremely uncomfortable. Mostly, he was sure, because he was jealous of them. They had it so much easier. Why couldn't he have chosen to fall for another Slytherin instead? He had to go and fall in love with the stupid messy-haired Gryffindor, with those emerald eyes that make a man go weak in the knees. He made sure his friends realised he was awake by making sure to cough loudly. How can he crave something that could be his own undoing?
"Sorry," Theo said sheepishly, watching Draco struggle to pull on some robes and disappear as fast as he could. Draco attempted a non-committal shrug. He reached the grounds in almost a daze, feeling the fresh air against his face and smiling to himself. He loved being alone, he could be himself, just let the mask fall, and let himself be.
He saw the dandelions on the grass, and feeling silly, he made sure nobody was watching before plucking one carefully from the ground. He closed his eyes, holding the dandelion up in front of his mouth, and he blew. He made a silent wish, perhaps today was the day he could confess his feelings.
Draco felt like he needed more than luck on his side when he was in Potions class, yet he wasn't about to give up, he needed that liquid luck potion that professor Slughorn was holding onto. He didn't expect Potter to be the one to give him a run for his money. He found the entire event of Potter being good at Potions to be rather curious, and it must be some kind of fluke.
"Well, well," professor Slughorn said, eyeing both potions curiously. "This is quite fascinating, both of you boys seem to really want this potion, but there can only be one winner. So, without further ado, the winner of the Felix Felicis is Draco Malfoy."
Draco was trying to ooze with self-confidence, Slytherin's don't show fear, after all. Internally, he was trembling with excitement; this was going to be what he needed to finally tell Potter how he felt. He spent his afternoon writing a love note for his crush, wondering what he would say, how he would tell Potter how crazy about him he was. A couple of times he could feel eyes on him, and he would eat his scarf if it wasn't Potter watching him. He looked up once, his grey eyes meeting Potter, and he smirked at him.
"So when is he getting the best of Malfoy treatment?" Blaise teased him.
Draco looked from the little golden bottle to his friend and tried to sound casual. "I'm still deciding," he shrugged. "Also, in case you were wondering, I am, by definition, the best version of myself."
This comment caused both Blaise and Theo to laugh. "That's the spirit," Theo said.
"Potter, I hoped I could speak to you alone," Draco said, he was holding flowers in his hands, and being cautiously inspected by Potters' friends.
"Hope is a dangerous thing," Potter replied cryptically but followed Draco into the nearby empty classroom.
"So, um," Draco stuttered.
"Why? Why would you do this to me?" Potter muttered. "And why have you got flowers?"
"So, the truth is I am on a mission," Draco said, instinctively knowing what to say, thanks to a specific potion he had saved until this very day.
"A mission?" Potter laughed. "What's the mission?"
"You're my mission."
"And you need flowers?" He asked, looking curious. "Are you trying to give me hayfever?"
Draco laughed, he never knew Potter to act so cheekily in front of him, maybe it was because it was only the two of them.
"Not acting like the sparkling white knight you usually do," Draco admitted. Something about Potter's expression turned dark but flirtatious.
"Even white knights have their dark days," Harry grinned.
"Good thing I don't need you to save me," Draco replied.
"Perhaps I am the one that needs to be saved," Harry said, his expression turning serious.
"From me?" Draco asked, worried he had read the situation wrong.
"From myself." Harry sighed. "The truth is, I have a crush on you."
"You— you do?" Draco asked beaming with delight. "Seems like my lucky day after all."
"Oh really?"
"I have a crush on you as well," Draco admitted. "These are for you, um, I put a note inside."
From the flowers, Harry pulled a folded note and began to read it to himself. "You wrote me a love note?" He grinned.
Draco nodded, no longer worried, if Harry liked him back, then it would only show him that Draco was serious about making it work.
"Because I have dreams, and in those dreams, I see the stars," Harry read the last sentence out loud, and it seemed to echo across the empty classroom. Harry's cheeks were tinged pink.
"Does that mean I get to kiss you know?" Harry asked suddenly, and the air felt charged with electricity between them. Draco nodded, stepping closer to the Gryffindor. Harry placed the flowers on a desk, before pulling Draco even closer by his Slytherin tie, and with a grin, he pressed their mouths together. The kiss was awkward, as most first kisses were, their tongues struggling to find a rhythm, but when they did, Draco groaned. He definitely couldn't have pulled this off without the bottle of Felix Felcis, the empty golden bottle in the top pocket of his robes.
"You needed that to ask me out?" Harry grinned as Draco removed the bottle from his robes.
"I didn't know you could possibly like me too," Draco admitted.
"Well, it sure is my lucky day," Harry said. "I also found a good use for that Slytherin tie," he teased.
"You know this isn't going to go well? Your friends—"
"My friends already know Draco," Harry admitted. "It's not like they couldn't see it even before I could myself."
"But," Draco started but stopped. There was no use voicing the fear, he and Harry both knew what this could mean and their friends were likely to be the least of their worries.
"Yeah, I know," Harry said. "I wouldn't worry about that just yet, would you?"
Draco shook his head. No, that was a worry for another time.
