This story has been on my mind for quite a while. I never started it because I was never quite sure where it was going. But, now I have quite a bit of time on my hands. Thanks quarantine. My apologies for any mistakes. I am a fairly new HP fan.. and when I refer to "past situations", it will be movie universe, not books (for the sake of my memory. I have seen all the movies multiple times, but I have only read through the books once.

PLEASE NOTE: In this story, the events of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child do not exist. This is my version of eerything following the Battle of Hogwarts. A few OC's.

Hogwarts: The Next Generation

Chapter 1: First Year – Part I

.

Platform 9 ¾: September 1st, 2015

"It's time! It's finally time!" 11-year old Emma Longbottom could hardly contain her excitement. It was finally time for her first year at Hogwarts. She had been dreaming of this moment for her whole life. Her dad, Neville, told her stories of all the adventures he had while attending Hogwarts.

"But none of that is going to happen to you. You will go to school, learn magic, and become an excellent witch. No battles for you, missy."

Emma remembered what her father told her the night before. He was already at Hogwarts himself, his first year as the Herbology Professor.

"Now remember, Emma," Emma's mother, Hannah, said as the crowded platform started to clear, "keep out of trouble, make some friends, and don't ever let anyone tell you that you aren't good enough. Do you understand me?"

Emma nodded and embraced her mother one last time in a giant, warm embrace. "I love you, mum."

"I love you too, sweetheart. You are going to do great."

….

Emma walked down the aisle in the middle of the train, looking for an empty compartment.

"Emma?" called a young boy from up ahead.

"James!" Emma noticed. She hadn't seen him in a while, but James Potter was her childhood friend.

"Why don't you come in here and sit with us," James asked.

"You don't have to ask me twice. It's a bit overwhelming. Hi, Katy!"

Katy Weasley sat across from James, reading the latest issue of The Daily Prophet.

"Hi, Emma!"

"So," began James, "are you ready for Hogwarts? Finally, after all of the stories from our parents, we get to experience it ourselves!"

Emma giggled. "Did you two get the same warning that I got from my dad?"

"What do you mean?" Asked Katy.

Emma did her best impression of her dad. "You will go, learn magic, and take part in no battles."

The three burst out into laughter. "My dad said a little something more," James said while still holding a bright smile on his face, "and if anyone stares at you or points at you, just hold your head up high, and be proud that you are a Potter."

Katy sighed. "My mum was very straight with me."

"How so?" Emma asked.

Katy, now also trying to imitate her mother, put her hands on her hips and wagged her finger. "Now, Katherine Gael Weasley, you will go to school and you will study and learn. If we hear of any mischievous or sneaky actions, Professor McGonagall will send us an owl immediately and you will hear from me."

"That is very tough," James said as he shook his head with a snicker.

"They just want us to be safe, I think," Emma thought out loud.

James sighed. "But what if I want to have a little fun? It's not like Voldemort is around. I don't think we are in danger like my dad was when he went to school. But my mum will have nothing of it."

"Let's look at the positive side. We can simply enjoy school without feeling like we could be in danger. Our parents probably just wish they could have done that."

"Yeah, but we still should be allowed to have a little fun," Katy said as she slumped into her seat.

….

"Emma Longbottom," Professor McGonagall announced as she read off the list of first years.

Emma gulped and began her walk up to the sorting hat. This was it. She desperately wanted Gryffindor. However, with her mum being a proud Hufflepuff and her dad a Gryffindor, she wasn't quite sure where she would end up.

"Ah, a Longbottom," the Sorting Hat said with its loud tone. "Hmm.. interesting indeed. You have a brave heart, and a caring soul. I see many good traits in you for Hufflepuff.."

"Please, Gryffindor," Emma whispered under her breath.

"Oh, you want Gryffindor, eh? Well, I also sense a leader in you. Yes, I know what to do.."

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Emma sighed a deep sigh of relief as the Gryffindor table erupted to cheer on their newest member. Seen at the teacher's table, Neville stood and clapped, his eyes shining with happy tears.

"James Potter."

A slow murmur among students at all tables began as his name was announced. Emma could over hear a few Gryffindor second years whispering amongst each other. "Did you hear that, the name? Is he Harry Potter's son?"

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Another huge round of applause. Gryffindor gained another Potter. James sheepishly smiled as he took his seat next to Emma. He leaned over and whispered, "that was the scariest moment of my life. Everyone was staring. Can you imagine if I wasn't Gryffindor?"

Emma giggled. "That would have been pretty interesting."

"Katherine Weasley!"

Katy began her trip up to the Sorting Hat next. While not as much of one as James, she also received a murmur from the crowd.

"Isn't she the Hermione Granger's daughter," a young Ravenclaw said rather loudly from her seat at the table.

"Wow, a Potter, Weasley, and Longbottom? Let's hope they don't attract the same kind of attention their parents did," snickered a Slytherin from across the room.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Oh, thank goodness," Emma shouted as the Sorting Hat announced its decision for Katy.

Katy smiled brightly as she marched over and took the seat next to James.

"Did you see everyone starting at us?"

"Yes, it was odd," James replied

"Did you really expect it wouldn't happen? Your parents are the most famous witches and wizards in history!"

"Emma, you had a lot of stares too," Katy replied after noticing Emma looked a little left out.

"Not nearly as much as you," she replied, crossing her arms.

"I think you should count that as a good thing, Emma. I'm literally going to have everyone breathing down my neck to see if I'm the next – well, the next my dad."

Emma nodded her head in agreement. While she did feel a little left out, she also understood that it could be a blessing. While her dad did play a huge roll in saving the wizarding world, he was a bit less known. He did not like to talk about his adventures with anyone other than his closest friends – who were the people who he fought with.

"I guess it is a good thing."

December 22nd, 2015

"I cannot believe I get to spend Christmas with all of you at the Burrow!"

Emma was practically leaping with excitement. She and Katy sat at their beds in the dormitory packing their things. Emma had earlier that day received news from her dad that they and the Potters had been invited to come and spend the Christmas holiday with the Weasley's at the Burrow.

"Good thing my grandma did another expansion charm to add rooms. Although, I think some of us may still end up sleeping in tents outside. Even Teddy is coming!"

Both girls squealed with delight once again as they finished their packing. They headed down to the common room where James was already waiting.

"My goodness," he exclaimed, "I've been sitting here for forever! How long does it take for girls to pack their things?"

"Honestly, James, I think you are the one we should be worried about. Did you actually pack? Or did you just throw everything in your trunk and hope it's enough?" Katy said this in a very joking tone.

James gave an exaggerated eye roll. "I'm sure we won't need a whole lot. Did you all get your presents from grandma?"

Emma and Katy nodded. "Well then, we best put them on before getting on the train. Don't want grandma to think we don't like our jumpers."

The three of them agreed and each slid their hand knitted jumpers on. Emma's sporting a large "E", James a "J", and Katy a "K".

"Great," Emma said as she sighed deeply. "Now they will all be staring at us because we have these on."

"Won't it be a nice change though," James said thoughtfully. "Maybe we won't have so many students coming up to us in the hall asking about our parents.

All three giggled once more, leaving the Gryffindor Common Room. Excitement was in the air as they were about to see everyone again. It had been too long.

Alright everyone, starting out with some fluff! The first few years I'm going to try and jump through quickly and will be mostly fun. Then, the chaos will begin!

I'm also going to *try* and upload one chapter a day since I have quite a lot of time on my hands. Any reviews are welcome.. it has been a LONG time since I wrote anything!
