Hey Everyone, slightly late to this fanfiction party but excited to share. I just write for fun so please be kind and remember, if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

Chapter 1:
It was what you could consider an excruciatingly normal day when he found her. Lying by the side of the road, cocooned by bushes, she could've easily been mistaken for a bag of garbage had it not been for the rapid up and down of her chest as she wheezed each laboured breath in and out.
Seeing the movement amongst the bushes was enough to wet the curiosity of the retired police chief, and so he found himself parking up and braving the cold night. Hand on pistol he readied himself to put an injured animal out of its misery.
"These damn kids, they never clean up their own mess" He muttered as he kicked his way through the undergrowth.
"Jesus Christ"
Shock rippled through his body as he took in the sight before him. Her body was dwarfed against the backdrop of the Olympic forest making her seem even smaller than she already was. Kneeling beside her, he began to take stock of her countless injuries. Never in all his years had he seen the like of it. There wasn't an inch of skin that wasn't marred by bruises, scars or burns and It almost seemed like poor girl had bathed in blood. The sight alone was enough to send him reeling back and hurling his dinner into the nearby bushes.
He knew the rumours about this place, the strange no man's land between Forks and La Push, and he definitely knew to leave it well enough alone. He hadn't moved from Seattle just to find himself in even deeper shit than before, but there was something about this lump of a girl lying amongst the trees that drew him in. He was many things but above all else he was a good man and god help him if was to leave this girl to the wolves.
"Excuse me Miss…" He grumbled out.
No reply.
"My name is Charlie Swan, I'm here to help you" Silence. "My wife is a nurse; I'm going to bring you someplace safe"
He knew how he must've looked and sounded, talking away to this shell of a girl but, in a rare moment of belief he found himself knowing she could hear every word. She was an open book, her face clearly displaying the torment that she felt on the inside, and as he lifted her, he was almost crippled by the fear rolling off her body in waves.
"Somebody got you real good eh? Not to worry, Sue will have you fixed up in no time"
He carefully laid the girl down on the backseat of his cruiser, covering her with his jacket to protect her as much as possible against the cold air of the night.
Behind him the forest rustled with movement. Any other time he would've attributed it to a quick breeze or a scavenging animal but the hairs on the back of his neck alerted him that he was not alone.
End of Chapter.
