You're Special
A/N: The title's a reference to the Fallout games. If you've played them, you'll know what is. Anyways, Shadow and Cream lore once again. As usual I got some sweetness, lovability and friendship awesomeness for these two.
Being told that made his heart melt...
The way Cream had been spending almost every weekend with Shadow made it seem as if he was the only one who could take care of her. The rabbit still spent weekends with Amy, Tails and Knux those other weekends when she wasn't with the dark hedgehog. It was unfortunate that Cream was the only one whose seen and been inside Shadow's house. It was darker inside due to newspaper-covered windows. He planned on telling the rabbit that she could invite Amy and her boys so he could start having company over. This was something Miss Linda suggested he do to get used to the others.
Shadow was now accustomed to Cream spending weekends with him. He'd grown to adore the rabbit over the past year. He was sitting next to her on his spare bed tucking her in. She had him read her a book Amy recently bought her when she went shopping at her favorite bookstore with Tails. Knuckles was sick that day, lying in bed and sleeping most of that time. Shadow didn't like reading cute books, but Cream made him change that thought only when it was her. After he was done reading the story, Cream made him tell her one of his own. He did.
"I once went grocery shopping with Miss Linda," Shadow began, remembering the humorous moment he had with the human woman whom he befriended a year ago, "we was coming down the aisle, and this woman came around the corner and hit me with her basket." Shadow chuckles when Cream laughs.
"Her eyes went wide, and she apologized so many times. I gave her a look and told her to watch where you're going." Cream laughs and Shadow joins in. The rabbit laughed at the fact that Shadow got hit by a shopping cart at the grocery store.
"It sounds like something that would happen to Mr. Knuckles!" Cream said through giggles and Shadow laughed more thinking about it. The echidna would've been laughed at by Tails and Amy if that was the case.
After laughing, Shadow tells Cream one more story before he leaves, but elder he did Cream took his hand and stopped him.
"Mr. Shadow?" Cream asks.
"What's wrong Dearheart?" Shadow asked as he sits back down to hear what she had to say.
"You're a very special person to me Mr. Shadow." Cream smiles up at the hedgehog who returns it. It reminded him of the very same thing Miss Linda told him a while ago. He turned red in the face as he stammered out: "You're special to me too, Miss Linda." She tickled him afterwards. Thinking back at that made the hedgehog blush as he smiled down at the rabbit.
"You're a very special person to me too Cream." Shadow mumbles and he tickles her, making her laugh as he felt the warmth in his heart. Both Cream and Miss Linda were very special to Shadow. Amy too, if you wanna say so as well. Cream sits up and hugs Shadow who returns the affection with a deep, rumbling purr that the rabbit could hear and feel.
She giggles. She liked when the hedgehog purred. She liked how it symbolized that the hedgehog was happy. His stumpy little tail sometimes wagged as well making it much more adorable. After the hug, Shadow kissed the rabbit forehead and told her goodnight before leaving for his bedroom. He closed his door gently and climbed into his bed, yawning with his fangs showing before he fell asleep.

The following morning, around 6:15AM, Cream woke up and went to the bathroom. She went to Shadow's door and slowly creeks open the door wide enough for her to peek at him. He snores rather loudly, like he wanted the whole world to hear him. The hedgehog was tired last night when he was playing with her. He was on his back with his slightly tilted to the right on his pillow, mouth slightly agape with some drooling. Cream found the hedgehog's sleeping habits amusing, giggling quietly in her hand as she quietly walked into the room to look at him closer.
He reminded her of how Knuckles was when he slept. She once poked the echidna in the side, and he snorted but otherwise remained asleep. Cream didn't do it with Shadow, instead she reached over and scratched the hedgehog behind his ear, his snoring quickly became snorts before he tilted his head into the little rabbit's petting hand.
He made a funny sound, still snoring as he appeared to smile a bit. The fact that he drooled as she did this makes her giggle more and it was getting harder to suppress. When Cream withdraws her hand from Shadow's ear, he makes a sound like a whine. He rocks his head from side to side before resuming his sleep.
Cream smiles up at him before leaving the room to watch early morning children's shows until Shadow woke up to make them breakfast. A few hours later was when the hedgehog woke up, a tired smile on his snout.
"Good morning Cream." Shadow says as he scratched under his muzzle. Cream looks over at him with a smile.
"Good morning Mr. Shadow." She wanted to laugh thinking about the time she petted his ears in his sleep hours earlier. She kept quiet as he sat in the couch with her.
He slouched into the couch, tired and grumbly as usual. He watched the colorful characters on the large TV and simply kept quiet himself. He quickly snorted awake when he fell asleep again and gets up to fix breakfast. The two ate at the table.
"What you wanna do today Dearheart?" Shadow asks her.
"Can we go to TechSavvy Mr. Shadow? I wanna see if they have a movie I've been wanting." Cream asked.
"TechSavvy? What a weird name. Alright we'll go, I'll help you dress." Shadow said as he gathered the dishes and washed them before going to the spare bedroom to help Cream change. He dressed her in a light blue shirt and denim shorts and took her to the electronics shop in his Suburban.
The two enter the store hand and hand and Cream made a mad dash for the movies. The store was huge. It was much like the real-life Best Buy. Shadow's mouth twitched ever so slightly. He had a thing for radios and entertainment, and he wanted to wander off where those were, but he had Cream to watch.
He ignored the man who came up to him asking if he needed help and went to find the rabbit looking at the movies. He stood there waiting for her before she picked up what she wanted. She went up to the hedgehog to show him what she wanted.
"This one?" Shadow says in his deep tone. It was some movie titled The Good Princess. Shadow wanted to laugh at the terrible name but said nothing other than asked what the price was.
"How much is it?" Shadow asked gruffly. Knowing it was on blu ray, it might be expensive.
"It's only $7.49 Mr. Shadow." Cream says innocently. The hedgehog looks at her with a serious face; the same stern way he looked down at her when she first began interacting with him. He made the rabbit nervous.
"Don't tell your mom." Shadow says. He leaned in closer to her. "This is our little secret." Shadow's face softened and he grins when Cream catches on to his teasing and laughs as she hugs him. Shadow would never forgive himself for the way he treated the rabbit from before. He takes her hand and looks at the stereos before he takes the rabbit to checkout her movie.
Shadow takes Cream to the ice cream parlor and the two eat some ice cream together. Shadow sat on the same side as Cream instead of sitting across from her. He didn't want to face the few patrons sitting in there, but he didn't tell the rabbit. Shadow looked over at Cream from the corner of his eye, a smile so little on his snout. He watched her happily eat her ice cream as he eats his much slower.
"Take your time." Shadow rasps. "You'll choke."
"Sorry Mr. Shadow." Cream says and eats more slowly. He he grunts and noticed his phone ringing in his "pocket" and he sees that it's Amy. He had her under the simple name "Rose" obviously.
"Yes?" Shadow answers.
"Hey Shadow." Amy says cheerfully on the other line. "How are you and Cream?"
"We're fine. We're downtown. What's the reason for your call?" Shadow asks.
"Oh, just checking on ya guys that's all. I can't call and ask how you guys are doing Shadow? That's cold." Amy was obviously teasing and the corner of the dark hedgehog's lip twitches in amusement.
"I know why you're calling Rose." Shadow says teasingly with a small smirk 'cross his lip. "I'm having fun with the rabbit and I don't need you rubbing it in." Amy laughs.
"Shadow!" Amy says between laughs. "There's nothing wrong with loving Cream. She's such a sweetheart. I'm glad you like her as much as you do. It's very wonderful." Amy said and Shadow's face lowers down as he blushed very little. Cream noticed when her attention goes to Shadow and she smiles.
"I'm glad you think so Rose." Shadow mumbles. Amy knew she made him feel warm inside, so she giggles on the other line. "She's the best thing that's ever happen to me after what I've been through." Shadow thought of what she told him last night. She said he was very special to her. The same thing Miss Linda told him a while back too. It made him smile.
Shadow and Amy continue talking and after some time they hang up. Shadow finished his ice cream during the talk and when he hung up Cream smiles up at him.
"Was that Miss Amy, Mr. Shadow?" Cream asked.
"Yes. She's just asking how we're doing." He tells her as he got up from his seat and the rabbit followed him out the ice cream parlor after throwing their cups away. They get into Shadow's car and they drive back to his house where they watch the cooking channel together.
Shadow appeared to like the show hosted by Tamika Young, a young cook in her mid to late 40s with a kind smile and the smoothest brown sugar-colored skin Shadow's ever seen. She reminded him of Linda. The light caramel skin and rich black hair. The woman on the screen was whipping up something involving chicken, and the hedgehog's mouth watered.
He slouches into the backrest of the couch and yawns. It was a little past 7:30PM and it was soon time for Cream's bath. He gets up and goes into the bathroom, getting the shower ready. He gets Cream a towel and calls her in. She removed her slippers before entering and Shadow took off her clothes and she climbed into the shower. The hedgehog scrubs her rather roughly, but she knew he didn't mean it. He scrubs her and when he gets to her little underarms, he intentionally tickles her when he scrubs.
"Stay still." Shadow chuckles knowing he was playing with the rabbit who laughs.
"You're tickling me Mr. Shadow!" Cream laughed and Shadow continues chuckling.
"No, I'm not." Shadow teases. He washed under her other arm, tickling her under there as well. Cream laughs and Shadow smiles, the amusement evident in his snout. He washes her belly which naturally tickled before washing her everywhere else. He rinsed her off and dries her off.
"There." Shadow grunts after helping the rabbit put her yellow nightgown on. "All done."
"Thank you, Mr. Shadow." Cream says.
"You're welcome Dearheart." Shadow answers her and she hugs him. He returns the hug and takes her by the hand to her room, telling her stories of his own before kissing her forehead after saying goodnight.

Shadow slept in a tank top that night, his fan was on because it gotten hot. He snores, drooling a bit from his slightly open mouth. He didn't hear his door open as Cream quietly walked inside. She didn't had a nightmare, she just wanted to be close to Shadow that night. He was on his back with his head facing the window like last time. Cream moved around the fan and got into the bed, Shadow snorted as his eyes opened slightly and his eyes darted in the direction of the rabbit.
"Cream?" Shadow mumbles.
"It's me, Mr. Shadow." Cream whispers as she climbs under his covers and snuggled close to him. He felt how warm she was and instantly felt relaxed. He strained to keep his eyes open before closing them and falling back asleep. The rabbit smiles as she rests her little head on dark hedgehog's chest. She liked how soft that patch of white fur was. It was fluffy. She could imagine Silver's being the same but much more soft. Nonetheless, the rabbit liked Shadow's little fluff regardless.
Shadow would always be very special to her, no matter what happened. Shadow would say the same thing...
