Hello everyone and anyone. Thanks for stopping by if you have. This is my first story I've written here. Hopefully it's enjoyable enough to whoever may read it. If you'd like to leave any sort of comment or review that would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
From an outside perspective, you would guess Ruby Rose was filled with nothing but happiness. With a cheery, happy-go-lucky personality, you would be making a safe bet. Not only that, she's a young girl who achieved a dream so many have but few could obtain. Two years earlier then everyone else, she was accepted into the prestigious Beacon Academy to learn how to become a huntress, a position seen as the pinnacle of being a heroin the world of Remnant. Along with that, she was the leader of her own team (aptly named Team RWBY) and has had a successful first year with said team. If you had bet on the young reaper being completely happy all signs would point to you having placed your money well. While, for the most part, you'd be correct, she wasn't entirely happy as of late.
As Ruby sat on one of the benches near the fountain of Beacon, she took some time to think. Not too many people were around right now as it was about an hour until sunset, so the quiet atmosphere was just what she needed. She thought about where she was in life, how her team was doing, and how her first year at Beacon had gone. It was tough in the beginning: being younger than her peers on top of being a team leader came its own hardships. The work was intense, both the work of tests and homework as well as the physical work of training every day. Some days had been hard, some of the hardest she had ever endured, but she surpassed all the hurdles life had thrown at her this year. Ruby not only worked hard herself but had a wonderful support system of friends both within her team and without. Her team. She smiled to herself. Her team was amazing. She wouldn't be where she was now without them. Yang Xiao Long, her fiery yet affectionate older sister. Sometimes, perhaps, too affectionate. She still felt sore from the bear hug she received from her sister yesterday. Next there was Weiss Schnee, her icy partner and best friend. Though Weiss herself would vehemently deny being her 'best friend', Ruby knew more than anyone that, despite the cold front Weiss puts on, she cares deeply for her and the rest of the team.
Then there was Blake Belladonna. Ruby paused. She lowered her eyes from the fountain to look at her own hands in her lap. There, her hands unconsciously clenched into fists. Blake. Just the thought of her send a wave of emotions through her. She clenched and unclenched her hands a few times to try and relieve the sudden stress that came to her. In the beginning, Blake was a bit of a mystery to Ruby. Quiet and reserved, she kept her thoughts and feelings to herself. Of course, she'd join the team when they went to lunch or, during those rare moments of down time, would venture into Vale for some much-needed fun. However, Blake, for the longest time, didn't do more then she needed or say more then she needed. Ruby wasn't sure what the reason was precisely but, from the time she met Blake, she'd always been fixated on her. Unlike the rest of her team, though she still put forth the effort to be friends with them, Ruby wanted nothing more than to become close with her and be her friend. She tried many different tactics early on, with some mild success. She and Blake discussed some of the things they liked when Ruby was particularly persistent on finding out more about the raven-haired girl. They even went to dinner together one time. Even more, Ruby successfully got Blake to laugh once by pulling her cloak over her head, obscuring her face in darkness, and talking like a gruff detective questioning Blake on if she had taken her last cookie. Ruby chuckled to herself. She was very proud of that moment.
Unfortunately, it wasn't as much progress as Ruby hoped for and what came not too long after made her fearful, she would no longer have a chance to see her. Ruby, Weiss, and Yang all discovered Blakes hidden secret; she was a Faunus. This information alone didn't bother Ruby but what did bother her was the fact that Blake ran away. It took some time, with trying to find Blake and the many talks between the members of Team RWBY about the situation and how they felt, they managed to prevent Blake from running away. The team became much closer after that. Blake became more open with everyone. She joined in more frequently with the games they played and the shenanigans they got themselves into. Ruby was thrilled about this. Her team was back together and full of joy.
Ruby leaned her head back on the bench and released a shaky breath she didn't realized she was holding. Her thoughts wondered more and more to Blake. After discovering she was a Faunus, Ruby, out of everyone, assured Blake the most there was nothing to be afraid of. They were a team, no one was going to abandon her. After that, she and Blake spent a lot more time together. They would walk back from class chatting about the woes of schoolwork. When the others weren't around, they'd go have lunch together, usually spending more time talking than eating. Ruby even managed to convince Blake to play some video games with her. They stuck with co-op games the most since Blake had trouble figuring out even the basic of controls. Ruby didn't care though. She was spending time with one of the people she cared about the most.
The red reaper closed her eyes and smiled. Her mind played a series of images of Blake. The Faunus girl curled up in a ball sleeping after a long day of training, the girl standing proud after winning her sparring match with Yang, the girl sitting contently with her newest novel in hand, the girl smiling at Ruby as she ran to her after class ready to chat about the day. The images playing in her mind made her happy that she was friends with someone so cool. So lovely. So wonderful.
The silver eyed girl released another shaky breath and opened her eyes to the world around her. The sun would be setting soon; she knew she would have to return to her dorm before nightfall. As of late, being confined to her dorm with Blake made her nervous, even with Weiss and Yang around. Whenever Ruby would have to talk to Blake, or even see her, she would become so nervous, she'd ramble off nonsense before running off. Well, ramble more than she normally would. At first, she didn't understand why this was happening. Why she felt these mixed emotions about the black-haired girl. She felt normal around Blake for so long but once the new school year began, she started acting strange around her. Eventually, with some help from Weiss, Ruby discovered she had feelings for her teammate, Blake Belladonna. Even after Weiss' help it still took Ruby time to really understand her feelings, to accept the fact she felt more towards Blake than anyone else.
Ruby wanted to tell Blake how she felt for her yet all the emotions she had kept her from doing so. What if Blake didn't feel the same way? What if that caused the whole team to fall apart because Ruby and Blake could no longer work together? Would it be so awkward Blake would never want to see Ruby again? Weiss had assured her time and time again that nothing dire would happen. Yang came to find out how Ruby felt and gave out her sisterly advice: Even if Blake didn't feel the same towards her, the two of them were too good of friends to have their relationship ruined. While her partners and sister's advice certainly calmed the young girl down some, Ruby still felt that all too familiar ball of nervousness in her stomach.
Ruby looked up to the sky to see the shattered moon fully crawling upwards into view. She rose from the bench and stretched her arms out as far as they'd go. The few pops from her back felt great, relieving some of the stress she was carrying there. Before heading back to her dorm, Ruby took another moment of pause. While she was scared about how Blake may react, she truly did want to reveal the feelings she had been hiding. She wanted nothing more than to spend time with Blake, to be close with her. To hold her close after a long day and lay together, talking about everything and nothing all at once. A buzz from her scroll snapped her back to reality. She fished out her scroll to see a message from Blake. Her heart skipped a beat, wondering what the message contained. She opened it up to see that the cat Faunus was curious to where she was as she was the only one currently at the dorm. With shaky hands Ruby tapped out a quick message saying she would be back at the dorm in five minutes. She tucked her scroll back into her skirt and felt that her face was hot. She shook her head to try and remove the blush that, if she had to guess, covered her face entirely. Satisfied she was calm and blush free she took off running to her dorm. While still worried, Ruby felt a new confidence build within her. Perhaps today would be the day she would reveal her feelings to Blake, the girl she cherished so much. Perhaps today, Ruby Rose would be filled with nothing but happiness.
