Harry Potter was an unusual boy indeed. he was abused by his aunt and uncle, and bullied by his cousin, while his parents were constantly insulted by his "dear" Aunt Petunia. His "absolutely lovable" Uncle Vernon was not helping matters, by egging both of them on- sometimes even participating in it himself. The worst of it all actually was whenever anything strange actually occurred around him- For example, while being chased by Dudley and his cronies, Harry had vaulted over a pile of trash, only to find himself feeling like he had been sucked through a straw and reaching the school roof. That had earned him a week locked in his room- wait, that's not right- his cupboard under the stairs is what should be said.

Even so, Harry had a secret which he had protected for a long time- He knew that he was a psychic power holder- a so-called ESPer, if you will. He had been able to read Aunt Petunia's mind since his 8th birthday, and had found out that his mother had actually fallen victim to a certain Lord Voldemort- who had targeted him for some reason. His mother, who was similar to him, had placed a protective 'charm' on him, so that he was protected till he became of age. Since these memories had been revealed, Harry knew that Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon intended to block the usage of his powers.

Harry's other ability, which he found very useful, was the ability to memorize and gain an instinctive understanding of any book and absorb the experiences and memories of other people as if it were his own, if he so wished to and when the said target was within a certain range. He had used this ability to its fullest, memorizing the entire school library, and even was able to become the top student in his class- one of many things the Dursleys hated and punished him for. They thought that he had been sneaking books out of the library, and tried to get the school to ban him from using the library except for schoolwork. Not that it mattered- the school actually threatened them instead- and so Harry decided to annoy the Dursleys by bringing and reading some books which he liked- voracious reader that he was- and almost got caught almost all the time.

Now, Harry was about to turn 11- his birthday, July 31, fast approaching- but was sleeping on the sandy floor of a place called Hut-On-The-Rocks on a small island on a stormy night, where the Dursleys had retreated after a week of receiving thousands of letters in yellowed paper, which they apparently thought were not worth anything, since they were addressed to Harry. For his part, Harry continued to hide his powers, determined to keep them in the dark until times were suitable. He had just finished drawing a pitiful picture of his birthday cake and was waiting for midnight, when suddenly a bomb went off ou- 'Wait a minute, a bomb? In a storm?'. Uncle Vernon apparently agreed, as he had literally brought the big gun out.

Although, the sight of the man who broke that door down was enough to scare the four of them. This large man went and twisted the 'big gun' into a rather well-done slipknot while saying "Dry up, Dursley", before seeing Harry and immediately beaming ("Good ter see yeh, Harry!"). Vernon Dursley, however, was not to be dissuaded, as he had immediately tried to turn this 'giant man' out("I demand that you leave these premises immediately!" "Ah, shuddup Dursley!"). Mr. Giant then introduced himself as Rubeus Hagrid, and handed Harry the same yellow letter which the Dursleys were reluctant to accept, having burned the lot on sight.

Harry ripped the envelope open and quickly read through the letter, just wondering about two things- What was Hogwarts and who was he? On asking Hagrid these two questions, the questioned person was beside himself with fury and explained what Hogwarts was- a school for witches and wizards. As to who he was, he was told that his parents were magical, and had been targeted by a Dark wizard called Lord Voldemort, and that he was the only one to have survived any bits of nasty work by him. Petunia had expressed her distaste for her sister, although Harry read her mind and realized that she actually had gotten over her jealousy and was simply scared of Vernon. Well, Dudley was completely pigging out by eating the birthday cake that Hagrid had baked Harry, and got a well deserved bit of punishment when Vernon had enraged Hagrid further by insulting Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts. Poor Dudley had been given a pig's tail as a belated birthday present.

In the morning, Harry woke to find an owl pecking at Hagrid. He tapped his foot, triggered his ESP and understood what to do. Pulling the coat that Hagrid told him to kip under, he found 5 Bronze Knuts to pay the owl after taking the Daily Prophet. Hagrid had woken up a few minutes later, and felt glad that Harry had had the presence of mind to pay the owl 5 Knuts. Of course, Harry had pretended to have been a bit confused before estimating the amount by the owl's reaction.

That day, Hagrid had taken Harry to Diagon Alley in London, via the Leaky Cauldron, where he had to endure an embarrassing tirade of people wanting to touch him. He managed to break free and enter Diagon Alley, though, and was amazed by the sight. He pretended to trip over a stone, and slightly stomped his foot to absorb a lot of knowledge. Instantly, he understood that his ESP was nothing but a branch of magic hitherto unknown- Unique magic. He was also pleased to know that if the book was a book on magic, he could also absorb the experiences of the author that had written that book. He only had strange encounters at Madam Malkin's and Ollivander's. The encounter at Madam Malkin's was with a fellow student, who seemed rude, had a scrawny face, was platinum blond and drawled. Harry almost hexed him when he read his thoughts, but decided against it.

Ollivander's had Harry encounter Garrick Ollivander, a wandmaker who said strange stuff, and seemed to remember people by their wands. However, even Garrick seemed shocked when Harry actually was chosen by two wands, which zoomed toward him after the first wand was tried. It was decided that Harry would have the holly wand (which was 11 inches long and had a phoenix feather core) as his main wand, and the other wand (made of walnut, was 8 and a half inches long and also had a phoenix core) would be a free backup wand that Garrick gifted him for his 11th birthday, and the 10 birthdays before that. However, in Garrick's words, "I do believe that we can expect great things from you, Mr. Potter, for You-Know-Who- who did great, but terrible deeds- had a wand whose core was given by the same phoenix, and it was curious that it would choose you while it's brother gave you that scar."

Since then, Harry had almost nothing to fear (not that he needed to ever since he became 8 years old) from the Dursleys, for an entire month. He did, however, quickly go through all of his textbooks, and from his absorbed knowledge, discovered that he had at least 3 Unique Magics. One rendered him impervious to most magic (He didn't know what the exceptions were or could be), the second was his second ESP- which he quickly named Experientia effusion - and the last one was an All magic creation/Mastery magic which he named Magicae progenitor. His mind-reading power turned out to surprisingly be a branch of magic called Legilimency, and that it could be blocked by a branch called Occlumency. Since finding that out, Harry had started practising Occlumency, and was quite successful at it. In any case, he rather felt that he should keep these unique magic and Legilimensic talents as much undercover as possible, as he had a sneaking suspicion that he would need it to face Voldemort- Harry decided that he wasn't going to be scared of a name, else, he would be quailing at the mention of the Dursleys.
